Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

We have just done a few network tests and there appears to be some problems within the core BT network (a few timeouts here and there) which would show as slowness.

Can anyone on BT.net or BTOpenWound confirm?

J.

JT - just spent 50 mins on phone to BT - checking settings, new connection, speed tests and everything fine with me they say. I agree - other pages browse fine. Can't see why my speed is down though if most other users are OK. A mystery.

on BT broadband, 3 secs to load my stockwatch from `go`, i`m impressed.

Your research section is practically unusable due to the number of market cap errors.
There are many errors in the size of the equity issue and also there appears to be a problem with the multiplier in the market capitalization table. This produces such gems as AZH having a mkt cap of about 900.

The last page of this table is a good place to show how far out the figures are in some cases(and that multiplier error).

http://www.moneyam.com/action/scanner/showMarketScanner?page=71&name=MarketCap

James Quinn used several figures that were obviously totally wrong in his article on cash shells, so these errors clearly aren't doing your writers any favours...

Please can someone overhaul the research section ASAP.

Many thanks,
dell

Dell,

We are in the process of changing the feed which will help resolve this - I will however forward your comments onto our tech guys to see if there is anything that can be done sooner.

Morning IT /JT. Spent time again over weekend tinkering. Still having very slow page loading with Moneyam but some other webs are also a little slower than usual. CMC flies along. BT still insist the line speeds are fine. If this is not a moneyam sole issue could it be IE? Any suggestions? It's driving me up the wall.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 May 2004 08:04 - 2104 of 7315

kernow,

I know that the when JT did look into this he did find problems with BT (a bit technical for me so I won't attempt to explain).

With regard to IE, to be honest, I can see no reason why it should cause any slowness, but I will speak to JT when he comes in to see if he can offer any further help.

Many thanks Ian.

What 'computer housekeeping' have you done to try to speed things up - or at least to try to keep things running as fast as is absolutely posssible?

kernow - 24 May 2004 08:55 - 2107 of 7315

DocProc - I've spent time deleting old files etc, scan disc, defrag, clear cookies, files, history, search for .tmp and dumped them, delete deleted e mails, weeded inbox. Anything else you'd suggest? Tia.

Spaceman - 24 May 2004 14:14 - 2108 of 7315

Any chance of making the expansion of the first posting in a thread user selectable? For some threads with very long first postings e.g. crocs daily and MM's US immigration one it would be nice to be able to select not expanding the first post, I use a blackberry but I would expect that others using mobile devices would also find this useful?? as it can save a lot of time and avoid repeatedly downloading the same info.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 24 May 2004 14:17 - 2109 of 7315

Spaceman,

I am not sure whether this is possible, but I will pass this onto JT.

kernow

Excellent.

From a posting by 'gerrigrrl' at http://groups.msn.com :-

"Here are some things I do every week to keep my computer running as fast and clean as possible while at the same time protecting itself.

1)After the recent worm attacks, I now make sure I check windows updates for patches daily.

2)The next thing I do is make sure my anti-virus is up to date. With Norton its a one click update.

3)Next I use a free external anti virus cleaner like Panda as a safe guard to double check the search for viruses on my system. The scan can take 30 minutes to an hour but its worth the time as it sometimes finds viruses missed by another anti virus program.

4)I make sure my spyware definitions are up to date before launching the spyware search. I then perform a check for spyware on my computer using free software like Spybot Search and Destroy. Spyware is actually made up of small programs that come in through e-mail, or surfing a web page that hide in your computer and report back to the company that sent them with information like where your surfing while online. You will be amazed how many spies the software finds every week. This is also widely recognised as one of the best detectors because, unlike some others, this program does not insert spyware of its own onto your computer.

5)Next, I clean up the hard drive using system tools and the built in clean up program.

6)Finally, I defrag the hard drive once a week.

Youll be surprised at how all these steps can help improve the speed, efficiency and security of a computer.

I also run an anti spam program and anti pop up window program.

DocProc, very many thanks for your time and effort. I already run Norton and Windows updates automatically but in view of my problems have run them manually again. Also ran a spyware scan from a web site I found - 2 items found. Norton also has a trace facility which I used yesterday - I was surprised to see very many hops required to reach e.g. moneyam and figures of 100+ ms between them. Can't be right? Many of the hops are within BT.
Just tried the Panda (unavailable atm) and spy bot (link u/s even if trying the home page). Another session with BT yesterday - methinks the helpline is staffed by muppets and I'm now refered to Faults - presumably this is BT wholesale. It's all driving me mad but at least I had less time to trade yesterday hence made a profit!!

Kayak - 25 May 2004 08:06 - 2112 of 7315

kernow, I know that the hops to moneyam from Pipex are a lot lower than BT. They could be having temporary problems causing redirection around their network. This is my traceroute (the first step is my router)...

1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms 192.168.0.1
2 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms 81-86-96-1.dsl.pipex.com [81.86.96.1]
3 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms eth2-1.cr1.uk5.systems.pipex.net [62.241.161.1]

4 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms ge-1-2-0.cr1.gs1.systems.pipex.net [62.241.161.9

5 10 ms 10 ms 20 ms lon1-10.nildram.net [217.79.160.15]
6 40 ms 20 ms 30 ms 193.243.128.1

kernow - 25 May 2004 08:30 - 2113 of 7315

Thanks Kayak. My route takes 12 hops with most being 30ms. Not sure what this means but obviously more hops/longer times must have some relevance.

Spaceman - 25 May 2004 08:30 - 2114 of 7315

kernow, if you have not run a spyware search before and if you dont have any spyware stoppers installed, then I suspect that the scan that you ran was rubbish, I would expect you to find far more than 2, be carefull if the scanner you used came from a bit of spam mail it may well have been an attemp to install some spyware (or even a hijack) and to make you think it
was OK. As mentioned above Spybot S&D is very good but Adaware free version is also fine.

I dont completly agree with the Docs suggestiosn above but they wont do any harm, as an alternative to Panda I suggest Trend Houscall online scan.

As Kayak says BT hops might be a bit longer but remember the internet is designed to reroute to avaid problems so there routes can and do change, here are mine via my BT link,

Tracing route to www.moneyam.com [193.243.128.75]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms SpeedTouch.lan [10.0.0.138]
2 20 ms 10 ms 20 ms 2xx.47.xxx.xxx
3 10 ms 20 ms 20 ms 2xx.47.xxx.xxx

hanks for all advice. I'm pretty sure I've tracked this down to Norton firewall - no idea why or what settings to change. Other I've consulted do not like Norton anyway so maybe time to change. Product suggestions will be welcome.

Beeblebrox - 26 May 2004 11:06 - 2117 of 7315
