Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

DocProc, very many thanks for your time and effort. I already run Norton and Windows updates automatically but in view of my problems have run them manually again. Also ran a spyware scan from a web site I found - 2 items found. Norton also has a trace facility which I used yesterday - I was surprised to see very many hops required to reach e.g. moneyam and figures of 100+ ms between them. Can't be right? Many of the hops are within BT.
Just tried the Panda (unavailable atm) and spy bot (link u/s even if trying the home page). Another session with BT yesterday - methinks the helpline is staffed by muppets and I'm now refered to Faults - presumably this is BT wholesale. It's all driving me mad but at least I had less time to trade yesterday hence made a profit!!

Kayak - 25 May 2004 08:06 - 2112 of 7315

kernow, I know that the hops to moneyam from Pipex are a lot lower than BT. They could be having temporary problems causing redirection around their network. This is my traceroute (the first step is my router)...

1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms 192.168.0.1
2 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms 81-86-96-1.dsl.pipex.com [81.86.96.1]
3 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms eth2-1.cr1.uk5.systems.pipex.net [62.241.161.1]

kernow - 25 May 2004 08:30 - 2113 of 7315

Thanks Kayak. My route takes 12 hops with most being 30ms. Not sure what this means but obviously more hops/longer times must have some relevance.

Spaceman - 25 May 2004 08:30 - 2114 of 7315

kernow, if you have not run a spyware search before and if you dont have any spyware stoppers installed, then I suspect that the scan that you ran was rubbish, I would expect you to find far more than 2, be carefull if the scanner you used came from a bit of spam mail it may well have been an attemp to install some spyware (or even a hijack) and to make you think it
was OK. As mentioned above Spybot S&D is very good but Adaware free version is also fine.

I dont completly agree with the Docs suggestiosn above but they wont do any harm, as an alternative to Panda I suggest Trend Houscall online scan.

As Kayak says BT hops might be a bit longer but remember the internet is designed to reroute to avaid problems so there routes can and do change, here are mine via my BT link,

Tracing route to www.moneyam.com [193.243.128.75]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

hanks for all advice. I'm pretty sure I've tracked this down to Norton firewall - no idea why or what settings to change. Other I've consulted do not like Norton anyway so maybe time to change. Product suggestions will be welcome.

Beeblebrox - 26 May 2004 11:06 - 2117 of 7315

been having a lot of problems last few days, and have run panda,
found 951 infected files !
anyone advise best firewall to prevent these.
i thought xp had its own protection, but obviously not.

dell314 - 26 May 2004 11:39 - 2118 of 7315

Beeblebrox - Try this site for some ideas and live testing of your current security:

http://grc.com/default.htm

The site is run by a chap who is passionately anti-spyware and all the other cr*p that tries to invade your PC.

Here is a direct link to his "Shields Up" page that will tell you which of your ports are accessible:

https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

From memory, I think he rates Zonealarm as one of the most secure firewalls and was also suggesting launching his own at some stage.

Not sure if these have been mentioned before but I'd like to request a couple of enhancements to the stockwatch menu:

1) Can we have some options to reduce text size and spacing as I struggle to fit my current watchlist on screen, without deleting stocks every time I add one. With a more condensed page, I could easily have a longer list without greatly hindering ease of viewing. I don't really want to have to add a second list to my already crowded screen.

2) A couple of ideas nicked from the defunct NothingVentured stockwatch screen:

As the "News" icon is white it is quite easy to miss when it appears. Also if a second piece of news appears later, there is no way of knowing this from the stockwatch screen.
The NV screen used to have the News icon appear in a contrasting colour until it had been selected and read, after which it changed to a more neutral colour. If a second piece of news occured, the icon would revert to the bold contrasting colour again until read.
They also had some script that enabled the news headline to appear just by hovering the mouse over the news icon. It was then easy to decide if the full news item was worth reading.

3) Could you please add a trade type column to stockwatch.

dell,

Thanks for the feedback - I will pass it onto the developers for consideration.

2) A couple of ideas nicked from the defunct NothingVentured stockwatch screen:

Don't hold your breath Dell! MoneyAM's IanT and I have had this exact (in fact eerily almost word for word) discussion about news every few months :-) I even sent screenshots of NV's news notification system which I made when that site was still going, just in case my description wasn't doing it justice.

It's a pity the stockwatch screen can't be improved but I'm guessing it's not a commercial priority because all suggestions are politely filed on the list of things that MoneyAM will look at but never manage to action. I do hold out some hope though that one day the company will take itself away from some of the cutting edge stuff and get back to addressing some of the basics, but if it's the cutting edge stuff that brings in the business, who can argue with that?

I probably shouldn't say this, but these days I find the whole thing quite funny in a dark sort of way because I'm a software developer - and recent circumstances mean I'm increasingly dealing with customer requests the way MoneyAM does. This is obviously the Universe's way of teaching me a lesson :-)
