FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Claret Dragon - 25 Nov 2016 18:23 - 21111 of 21973

The Italian Referendum is the obvious next potential problem for EU and Markets.

Early next week.

Still holding DOW short

cynic - 28 Nov 2016 15:40 - 21117 of 21973

can't be that bad a move

HARRYCAT - 28 Nov 2016 15:49 - 21118 of 21973

Jimmy, presumably you are paying to roll it over day by day and also gritting your teeth that the margin doesn't get called in?
I don't SB but interested to know how far you can hold on before capitulating.

jimmy b - 28 Nov 2016 16:03 - 21119 of 21973

I can roll over for as long as i like it's not costing too much i only bet small on the DOW.

I'm still running at a loss cynic ,it is however turning my way.

Claret Dragon - 30 Nov 2016 22:34 - 21120 of 21973

Dow made new high.

FTSE 100 not being dragged along,

cynic - 02 Dec 2016 06:49 - 21121 of 21973

for myself, i cannot work out for the life of me in which direction the markets will go
assuredly there is a currently a complete disconnect between european and us markets

perhaps it is apposite that one of the beach staff has just brought along a cold towel for soothing the fevered brow :-)
actually very pleasant indeed today with cloudless blue sky and current temperature around 25/27 degrees at 10:30 ..... i quite expect it to rise a further 5 or so as we get to early afternoon

HARRYCAT - 02 Dec 2016 08:39 - 21122 of 21973

IG's Sunday Markets are sharply down across the board

though not entirely reliable, they are still a good indicator, probably predicting a "no" vote in the italian referendum

no doubt the thught of an imminent rise in rates by the Fed will not please many either

jimmy b - 04 Dec 2016 10:05 - 21128 of 21973

What do you mean Sunday markets , they were down late Friday night just as they are now if you are referring to FTSE DAX DOW.

cynic - 04 Dec 2016 12:12 - 21129 of 21973

IG also run tradable positions on a sunday
thus Dax is currently showing as 10,470 mid
