FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Manuel,

How do you get your Market stall through customs?

cynic - 02 Dec 2016 09:55 - 21125 of 21973

easily as of course it has wheels
customs can get a bit sniffy if i try to bring in fish

IG's Sunday Markets are sharply down across the board

though not entirely reliable, they are still a good indicator, probably predicting a "no" vote in the italian referendum

no doubt the thught of an imminent rise in rates by the Fed will not please many either

jimmy b - 04 Dec 2016 10:05 - 21128 of 21973

What do you mean Sunday markets , they were down late Friday night just as they are now if you are referring to FTSE DAX DOW.

cynic - 04 Dec 2016 12:12 - 21129 of 21973

IG also run tradable positions on a sunday
thus Dax is currently showing as 10,470 mid

Distance from 200DMA for the shorts to possibly target and longs to consider entering for Xmas rally, who knows?

cynic - 05 Dec 2016 06:46 - 21131 of 21973

a tasty result o'night when my Dax limit on a small short was hit at 10,368

i note there's been a bit of a recovery since, but it'll be interesting to see how fragile the markets are as we go through the day

Claret Dragon - 05 Dec 2016 08:06 - 21132 of 21973

London equities are seen higher in early deals, following on from positive sessions on Wall St and in Asia as the market continues to focus on Italy's referendum and the just-started Brexit court case.

i am currently not opening any new positions in stocks
just as a dabble, i am may on occasion run an index position, but everything looks far too unpredictable to me

a sipp of course has a much longer view, but obviously even a number of those stocks don't always perform as hoped

Chris Carson - 06 Dec 2016 10:37 - 21135 of 21973

Had a cheeky punt on PHTM reporting Friday, other than that watching.
