THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

3m.

No.

He just reminds him of a poor man's Andouillette.

A little course fred.

3 monkies - 11 Feb 2013 15:03 - 21286 of 81564

Coarse - sorry.

cynic - 11 Feb 2013 15:13 - 21287 of 81564

mushy peas - unfortunately, most restaurants, though probably not north of manchester, now serve mushy peas made from frozen petits pois or similar, rather than from dried marrowfat peas ..... same difference as a "just steamed or boiled" crab and one of those tasteless pre-dressed things that are now almost universal

Went to Romford town shopping on the weekend. Saw a pie and mash shop near the
main market. Something I have never tried.

Superb fast food DC - although not so cheap any more.

if that is parsley sauce, did they serve hot stewed eels too, for that is the traditional accompaniment ...... when i worked in brick lane (blooms was still going strong then), certainly tubby isaacs still had his mobile stall selling whelks, jellied eels + the more usual stuff, and i recollect a couple of pie and mash shops still operating around whitechapel

cynic - 11 Feb 2013 15:41 - 21291 of 81564

ahem! ..... why are you guys not putting this food/recipe related stuff on my NEW COOK thread?

skinny - 11 Feb 2013 15:42 - 21292 of 81564

Yes it is - historically you could have stewed eels with the sauce or jellied eels.

On edit - one of my son-in-laws eats it with gravy - I have pointed out that this makes him a philistine - but to no avail!!!

dreamcatcher - 11 Feb 2013 15:51 - 21293 of 81564

The shop was all white tiled skinny. What does that liquer taste like ? It did feel strange walking round Romford, almost like you was abroad.

Stan - 11 Feb 2013 15:52 - 21294 of 81564

On now, but nearly over http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01qhd0r

skinny - 11 Feb 2013 15:59 - 21295 of 81564

DC - nearly all of the one's that I knew were white tiled with marble tables and wooden bench seats.

Goddards in Greenwich, is now 'trendy' and has green tiles!

As a boy, I used to frequent Manzes or Arments - both had a few shops mainly in South London - I've no idea how many are left these days.

The liquor doesn't really taste of much - to my mind, its more of a vehicle to aid eating the pie + mash.

Best with chilli vinegar which is on every table.

dreamcatcher - 11 Feb 2013 16:04 - 21296 of 81564

Nothing like pea like juice then ? Thanks for that skinny.

goldfinger - 11 Feb 2013 16:26 - 21297 of 81564

KFC........ everytime Ive had something from their, bloody awfull.

I hear most of them are franchiase so it might have something to do with that.

Used to be a pie and pea takeway in Bradford, people from all over Yorkshire and North used to go. Small cafe aswel. Always packed. Lovely meal.

Now a kebab shop.

Ohhh those were the days.
