How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Dont you just love it sometimes - just turned over to watch the golf having laid woods - the first shot he plays that i see is him putting for eagle - he putts it off the green and into the water lol!!!!!

I'll be on the train into London from 9am so you can call on my mobile if you wish.

Re: Golf, saw that. Believe it or not when I started all this laying and backing business Woods was often 2-1 to win any major. I laid him nearly all the time it was a great profit centre. Harrington is playing well at the moment.

i spent most of last 18 mths laying woods - i remember laying him at as short as 5/4 (2.2). saying that was happy to lay at less than 5-1 for this tournament. will try and call you in the morning

Afternoon all

off to a cracking start - traded the first race at aintree well and then let all the profit run on like a butterfly at 8.6 - greened up at 1.4 though could have let it run

Have made an interesting trade on Moscow Flyer - has never lost if it has finished and this looks a lot weaker than the cheltenham race. Have backed at 1.41 and layed the place for the same amount at 1.22. Effectively an even money bet that it will win vs not finish second - any other result is break even

Hi Steve, not been around much lately. Hoping for a couple of good days on the races. Might be a bit rusty though.

Fundamentalist - 08 Apr 2005 14:19 - 2149 of 10502

Southwell

Fundamentalist - 08 Apr 2005 14:48 - 2151 of 10502

3.8 second favourite
32.0 the winner lol

southwell first race about to go off

Fundamentalist - 08 Apr 2005 15:19 - 2152 of 10502

Harlosh - 08 Apr 2005 15:24 - 2153 of 10502

John

i was amazed the bookies wanted to lay him - they must be taking a real hiding at this meeting now - always nice to see

Scripophilist - 08 Apr 2005 23:57 - 2155 of 10502

Traders day attendee's saw the race live today. Shame I missed it and 3.5m traded as well!

kajman - 09 Apr 2005 09:47 - 2156 of 10502

It wasn't explained why Scrip layed Moscow Flyer in front of 200 people though. ;-)

Fundamentalist - 09 Apr 2005 10:25 - 2157 of 10502

Kaj

i hope he laid it at approx 1.4 and backed it back at 1.5 - otherwise, scrip thanks for the money again lol

kajman - 09 Apr 2005 11:20 - 2158 of 10502

:-)
Actually he backed it at the same price a few seconds later just to demonstrate the method. I was curious when the lay went on though.

Scripophilist - 09 Apr 2005 12:07 - 2159 of 10502

I like taking risks! I did manage to trade the 15:20 as well while still doing the presentation.

youre never one to miss an opportunity lol - i hope youve not spread the gospel alot thinner again lol.

are you trading the football/horses today?

Scripophilist - 09 Apr 2005 13:51 - 2161 of 10502

I'm too hung over to do anything decent today but will probably be doing the football and some of the racing. I've given the family some money each to punt on the grand national.
