How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

what a joy in play betting is on the national

laid 3 horses successfully and backed the winner at 7.2

Scripophilist - 09 Apr 2005 16:30 - 2165 of 10502

LOL, My three year old son picked 1st and 2nd place in the family two selection sweepstake.

Harlosh - 09 Apr 2005 17:01 - 2166 of 10502

I had backed Hedghunter in the antepost market at 25's. Later laid it off so had 116 riding on it. Very nice.

Afternoon Everyone,

Been out all day so missed out on the big race. Looks like you've all done OK so well done to you all.

Will be on the ManU game soon. Even though the big guns are on the bench I feel that a win is a must with Arsenal winning today.

Will play a slightly different strategy by drip feeding smaller stakes as the game commences just in case ManU takes forever to score!

Bakko

just listened to fergies interview before the game - his focus is solely on the cup semi by the sounds of it

when are we going out for a drink with harlosh

bakko - 09 Apr 2005 17:41 - 2171 of 10502

Fundy,

You've just fallen for one of Fergie's mind games...LOL!

As for a night out I'm quite flexible with most evenings. Just give me a date and venue.

Harlosh - 09 Apr 2005 18:04 - 2172 of 10502

I'm free any night also. But, can we wait until Wednesday b4 deciding. I'll explain why when we eventually meet.

bakko - 09 Apr 2005 18:21 - 2173 of 10502

Just been tinkering around with ManU v Nor game by continously backing and laying off as the odds become favourable whilst it is constantly moving. At half time I've worked out that I have backed ManU at an average of 1.78!

Fundamentalist - 09 Apr 2005 18:30 - 2174 of 10502

hope u had laid it off again bakko

bakko - 09 Apr 2005 18:34 - 2175 of 10502

Can't believe my luck cos I laid off ManU about 30secs before Norwich scored cos they were playing so crap. So as things stand I'm sitting on a profit. Will green up later.

Fundamentalist - 09 Apr 2005 18:43 - 2176 of 10502

What a cracking goal

now who was it earlier said that i was falling for fergies mind games lol

bakko - 09 Apr 2005 18:43 - 2177 of 10502

Greened up just before the second goal for a modest profit. Damn!!

Fundamentalist - 09 Apr 2005 18:45 - 2178 of 10502

i sense a 20 minute siege coming up

Diego - 09 Apr 2005 19:08 - 2179 of 10502

So much for my bankers! At least I did not lose - Backed Chelsea at 1.35. I have a stop/loss of 2%-5% of capital, so when they were drawing at half-time I layed them at 1.61. Same with ManU - backed them at 1.39 and at half-time layed them at1.6.

D.

bakko - 09 Apr 2005 19:18 - 2180 of 10502

Another goal shy performance by ManU! Well done Norwich.

At least I walked away with a small profit.

I'm finding that it's harder and harder to make a decent profit on football recently. Am I alone or are others experiencing the same?

Scripophilist - 09 Apr 2005 20:59 - 2181 of 10502

The start and end a season are always more unpredictable than mid season. Also I think most of us know that those clubs with clear objectives will put more emphasis on some games and less on others.

I'll reexamine the cut off point for a loss in these situation if you wish. I haven't looked at this for a while and can't remember what I found. Cutting at half time intuitively makes more sense that not.

Fundamentalist - 09 Apr 2005 21:53 - 2182 of 10502

Bakko

i mentioned the same recently - having real probs making the football work, certainly in comparison to the horses. Had a good day today as the only side i backed was arsenal - and they made me sweat taking 73 minutes to score

bakko - 09 Apr 2005 22:56 - 2183 of 10502

Fundy,
With football I find that its quite haphazard. A lot of my wins recently have been more down to sheer luck rather than through a pre-planned strategy. Also, the "bankers" have been a let down. I do agree with Scrip that at this time of the season it does get unpredictable.

Will be watching the golf tonight. I'm quite tempted to lay off DiMarco. Although, he's 4 shots ahead the chasing pack consists of the usual formidable suspects. I just cant see him holding on for 2 more rounds. Now that I've said this he'll probably romp home!
