FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

I'm looking for potential FTSE upside to the 7469 level or thereabouts over the next couple of weeks.

:-)
jolly little in/out flutter long DOW for 50 point profit

cynic - 26 Feb 2018 19:54 - 21673 of 21973

DOW + DAX
DOW is roaring ahead yet again and pulling DAX through 12,550 along the way
will DAX hold that level overnight? .... if so, that could be the place to be (I already am)

cynic - 27 Feb 2018 08:40 - 21674 of 21973

DAX
a very disappointing start having been (cash) well through 12,550 last night but has now retreated to just south of that

US Sold off last night. New Fed chief got his first say so.

cynic - 28 Feb 2018 20:06 - 21677 of 21973

all looking a bit ugly for tomorrow
DOW opened strongly but is now looking very sickly once more - down 150

Claret Dragon - 28 Feb 2018 20:27 - 21678 of 21973

Still going south

cynic - 28 Feb 2018 20:50 - 21679 of 21973

20:50 DOW almost certain to close down >300

Claret Dragon - 28 Feb 2018 20:51 - 21680 of 21973

500 points in an afternoon!!!

Here we go again

cynic - 28 Feb 2018 20:56 - 21681 of 21973

would have been very easy to have been suckered early this afternoon .... thank goodness i was not even around to be even half tempted

CC - 28 Feb 2018 21:45 - 21682 of 21973

FTSE only being called down 25. hmm. Not low enough for me to go long yet.

.

CC - 01 Mar 2018 12:15 - 21684 of 21973

Having taken 21 pts on a FTSE long this morning I'm back in at 7188. This time I'm hoping we will get a proper rally once the politicians wake up and smell the coffee

cynic - 01 Mar 2018 17:13 - 21685 of 21973

DOW
impossible to trade in these conditions .... must surely be computer trading for it's flying around all over the place
i tried a little dabble early this afternoon and completely lost my bottle .... was glad to have got out at b/e, though could have subsequently done well - or lost a bit had i lost my nerve

DAX
looking very sickly indeed but not sure why, for it's not as if it has been rocketing north of late

CC - 01 Mar 2018 19:44 - 21686 of 21973

Time for a rally? Added to my long FTSE position

Waiting for Theresa May I guess, although everything she's gong to say has probably already been leaked

cynic - 02 Mar 2018 11:32 - 21689 of 21973

whatever TM says will not affect the market(s)
the market(s) are beginning to feel bearish - ie good news is ignored and the bad causes a bad reaction - and DT's crap yesterday about imposing 25% steel tariffs will have far-reaching consequences if enacted

HARRYCAT - 02 Mar 2018 11:45 - 21690 of 21973

No one seems too worried....yet.... about Putin's assertion that he has an arsenal of ICBM's which can reach anywhere on the globe at speeds which render intercept missiles useless! I wonder if DT will rattle a few sabres in response?
I agree, sentiment is starting to change, which makes sense if interest rates start to rise and equities become less attractive.
