FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

people are waking up, to the fact that an all out trade war is most unlikely

trump needs to keep his gob shut for once while the "real people" talk behind the scenes to undo at least some of the damage

Claret Dragon - 05 Apr 2018 18:55 - 21767 of 21973

Dow had a wobble.

Chris Carson - 06 Apr 2018 00:07 - 21768 of 21973

What a clown this guy is FFS. Just when you think it's safe to stop hiding behind the couch.......Trump comes out and threatens $100 billion additional China Tariffs.

Claret Dragon - 06 Apr 2018 00:58 - 21769 of 21973

Trump is the greatest trading instrument ever.

Insider info with Donald must be at a premium.

Presidential put is all that matters now.

Technical analysis fundamentals no longer apply.

Trump Twitter utterances are the new way forward.

cynic - 06 Apr 2018 06:54 - 21770 of 21973

the madman strikes again .... cash DOW down 300 and DAX down 130

sure glad i cashed in a DOW long last evening ..... but fall probably overdone as f/e markets have remained steady ....... re-opened at 24,214
..... banked with 45 point profit
now fingers crossed for NFP's and market open

KidA - 06 Apr 2018 12:09 - 21771 of 21973

Good for Trump.

US off down again.

Fed raises rates and trade war rhetoric.

Claret Dragon - 06 Apr 2018 19:08 - 21773 of 21973

Dow down spades

All gains on Dow lost in last two hours.

Crazy times on the markets

cynic - 10 Apr 2018 08:07 - 21776 of 21973

and all the way back up this morning

cynic - 10 Apr 2018 11:10 - 21777 of 21973

CHINESE IMPORT RELAXATION ETC
apparently the latest speech did not have much if anything new but probably lays the ground for defusing the threatened trade war, and just perhaps rather more in the longer term

who are likely to be the major beneficiaries?
seemingly, car manufacturers in the first instance
however, i think this will be the tip of the iceberg and base commodity producers will be in demand - eg KAZ (copper), GLEN (cobalt for batteries) and BLT (iron ore)

Claret Dragon - 11 Apr 2018 21:19 - 21778 of 21973

US down again today.

Mr T getting ready to rearrange the rubble in Syria.

Hopefully not.

KidA - 13 Apr 2018 10:23 - 21779 of 21973

Agree, gas attacks don't move the markets.

cynic - 13 Apr 2018 11:59 - 21780 of 21973

DAX
now 12,475 has been breached, this index is interesting territory with a potential swing to further upside

however, i am inclined to remain cautious until DOW also shows comparable strength by breaking through and holding 24,650

nor should it be forgotten that today is friday and the madman is still theatening fire and brimstone to be rained down on syria - though perhaps not today

KidA - 13 Apr 2018 12:11 - 21781 of 21973

The lunatics will sit on their hands and watch as gas has a field day and nuclear weapons are developed - how well the so called sane leaders have done.

Balerboy - 13 Apr 2018 14:07 - 21782 of 21973

talking of gas...... if Russia gets bolshie over Syria .... if he turns the gas tap off to Europe we're all in the proverbial....

dreamcatcher - 13 Apr 2018 21:30 - 21783 of 21973

Mine comes from Norway, slightly different smell to Russian gas. :-))

SUNDAY TIMES
biz section worth reading for comment on WPP, WTB and CNE

also
very funny and sharply observed caption to the cartoon on the front page of the main paper ...
"We will obliterate the entire West except for Jeremy Corbyn"

cynic - 16 Apr 2018 14:09 - 21785 of 21973

while european indices languish, keep an eye on DOW which is only 75 points away from an important break-out point (25,625)
break that and hold, and there could finally be some life in europe, more likely via DAX than FTSE
