Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

What's more important than the physical level of inflation, is the number in relative terms.
Currently at 2.7%, inflation is above target (2.0%) and above GDP growth (+ or - sfa%). It's also above earnings growth which is why Greekman is complaining about his recent duel-fuel bill, and it's why I said previously that it's nothing more than a stealth tax used by governments to devalue the level of national debt.

with regard to inflation vs gdp, surely that was often if not usually the case in the past .... the time we all really got mangled was in the early 80s with high everything, including astronomic interest rates ..... at that time, i ran a little brasserie and we were having to raise prices 3-4 times a year .... i reckon that in a great many ways, those were far worse times

The Euro is higher than sterling because their interests rates are higher and investors are buying Euros in particular to invest in German banks. It is ones of the side effects of a unified currency but an non-unified political system across the EU.

Cyners,
If you take the period from 1960 to 2005 (if only because the IMF estimates are readily available for that period), UK GDP multiplied approx 47-fold whereas the inflation index only multiplied just over 15-fold. So, whilst there are obvious fluctuations during periods like the one you mentioned and also the current period where inflation exceeds GDP, over any sustained period GDP growth comfortably outstrips inflation and we should all be getting richer.

Some do have less than one car per family. They are called Fiat 500s.

The Germans have the right idea.
Give horsemeat-tainted food to poor - German minister
Germany's development minister has suggested food tainted with horsemeat should be distributed to the poor.
Dirk Niebel said he supported the proposal by a member of the governing CDU party, and concluded: "We can't just throw away good food."
The opposition dismissed the idea, but a priest said it should be considered.

Oh yes. What really slays me about Fred is this unreal attitude that whatever he posts is of any relevance to anybody except himself. Eg "Refer to my post a week last tuesday, two years ago or the day before yesterday" News Fred, you post left wing shite number 1, number 2 it's crap and 3 you are a prick! Deal with it.

Perhaps they are trying to kill off the poor. The meat perhaps has drugs in that are not fit for human consumption.

and for fred and others who like to wear as a medal their lower class and impecunious upbringings, i'll post this afternoon (after golf) 3 nourishing and filling family recipes for breast of lamb ..... the 4 breasts cost a total £5.40 and though i use a bottle and a half of cheapo white wine (about £7.00), stock from a stock cube (or even water) could easily substituted for those who would feel guilty at splashing out so recklessly
