As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

I use a Laptop running Windows 7 premium and Internet explorer 11.
The Beta version seems to run very well with better scrolling than the Java Version.
Would like to run the Beta version as the preferred method but at the moment I have to wait for the Java to load first before being able to select the new version.

ExecLine: Once you are at the trades page, it makes no difference how you go there, so this isn't related to the HTML stockwatch. I think what you are seeing is actually a problem with Java.

I don't really want to get into troubleshooting this on this thread because it's not related to the HTML stockwatch.

bernardworm: As the beta version seems to have been very successful, it won't be long until we switch it to be the preferred version. You could bookmark the beta page for now, or just click cancel when the Java is loading.

RalphS: The reason those stocks show in the Java version is because it displays all the stocks you've chosen even if there's no data for that stock. The HTML version doesn't add the stock row until it has received data for that stock.

A lot better than the old Java version as it can now be accessed on my mobile devices

George: Re: 219. I have exactly the same experience in Chrome with Trades as Execline. If I click on the link you gave then Trades opens and populates with data, but if I open it in a new tab no data appears, but a red cross appears at the end of the address bar. Clicking the red cross then clicking the hotlink to the reference to cookies causes the data to appear immediately. I know this is not important as you are migrating Trades to HTML, but that's what happens which seems odd. It doesn't bother me as I know I can clock the hotlink and the data appears. I do like the the HTML Stockwatch, though.

sdunwell: That's really bizarre because we all use Chrome here and we can't replicate the problem. Also, I don't know what you mean about a hotlink reference to cookies. If you don't mind, maybe we can arrange a remote desktop session so you can show me? Would that be possible? Execline: I've seen the problem happening on sdunwell's computer. I really don't understand why it's happened and we can't replicate it by force, but it seems to be a browser + Java bug. Once we get rid of Java trades this won't be an issue. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime and thanks for letting us know of the problem.

At last! No more java errors just when I'm checking a price to trade! Thanks

Clicked on your link and it worked fine. Using a clean Chrome browser launch.

Clicked on Java Stockwatch. 'T' works fine.

Click on HTML Stockwatch using the same window. Stockwatch works fine.

Click on a 'T' whilst on the HTML Stockwatch page and Trades do not work. I just get the control box but no Live Stream Trades. They just don't work. Other nonJava trades work OK.

I had just updated Java for Chrome (done automatically), for IE (but haven't yet launched an IE browser yet) and for 'Other Browsers' (but haven't used any other browsers yet) before trying out the 'T' links as described.

Anyhow, for the moment I can get them by using the old Java Stockwatch and clicking on 'T' from there or going straight to Trades using a clean fresh Chrome browser launch.

Never subscribed to pay for live streaming and share dealing on this site as I mainly use ipad and iphone which are not Java compatible but if this new system is kept I will subscribe as it now works great on apple devices

Beta version working well on my Macbook,more reliable than Java version.

Works well for me. I am finding it very useful when away from home since it will stream prices on my Android Galaxy S3.
