FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Bloody hell Mr C! .... Careful. Fortunes have been won & lost with fat finger syndrome.

cynic - 25 May 2018 08:28 - 21816 of 21973

true, but i realised almost instantly, and just kept a watch
ultimately sold the balance for +150 so i was very happy, though DOW has gone further north overnight

Mr T not tweeted for a day always helps.

cynic - 25 Jun 2018 16:21 - 21818 of 21973

all very nasty this afternoon
doubt there's any new news, but markets have been threatening a tumble for a couple of weeks

Claret Dragon - 26 Jun 2018 09:23 - 21819 of 21973

Gone long FTSE 100 this morning.

cynic - 27 Jun 2018 15:11 - 21820 of 21973

sudden surge in the markets is almost certainly due to the note below (ex FT)

Steel users file legal challenge to Trump’s tariffs

A group of steel users has filed the first known legal challenge to steel tariffs imposed by Donald Trump earlier this year.
In a suit filed with the US Court of International Trade in New York on Wednesday the American Institute for International Steel and two of its member companies argue that the US president’s move is unconstitutional. They also challenge Mr Trump's invocation of a 1962 law to impose the 25 per cent tariff on national security grounds.

Jeez!.....no wonder there are so many lawyers in the US. They just can't resist!

KidA - 28 Jun 2018 12:52 - 21822 of 21973

Reducing reliance on other countries for military hardware seems reasonable.

DAX
taking a real pasting yet again, but not sue if there is any reason other than "chart malaise"

Claret Dragon - 17 Jul 2018 21:24 - 21824 of 21973

Dow ticking up through earnings.

Apart from Mr T and his Twitter account just what can go wrong :)

KidA - 18 Jul 2018 12:22 - 21825 of 21973

People can keep reading it and reacting in their obsessive, hysterical manner.

Claret Dragon - 24 Jul 2018 22:13 - 21826 of 21973

DOW going well into earnings.

Relentless - 24 Jul 2018 22:28 - 21827 of 21973

cynic - 26 Jul 2018 15:58 - 21830 of 21973

DAX
for the first time in just over a month, DAX has clawed its way above 12,800
if it can hold that through the close and into tomorrow, then there's a decent space above for it to occupy

KidA - 30 Jul 2018 15:32 - 21831 of 21973

FTSE100; inverted H + S v rising wedge?

cynic - 31 Jul 2018 13:48 - 21832 of 21973

DAX
watch closely
currently hovering on a fairly important support at 12,770

cynic - 01 Aug 2018 11:43 - 21833 of 21973

what an ugly market, though thank goodness at least AAPL (which i hold) came in with ace results

KidA - 02 Aug 2018 10:53 - 21834 of 21973

First blow by wedge.
