your usual sweeping statements do not differentiate between immigrants who come to work and settle down - e.g. the west indians in the 50's and ugandan asians in 1972 - as i'ld guess that most do, and the peripatetic workers - e.g. the bulgarians et al - who come to uk to pick the fruit crops, take the money and go home, or seek to stay on legally or otherwise
