i THINK WE WILL SEE ever increasing nervousness this week awaiting earnings so I see a small retracement today

jj50 - 04 Oct 2004 23:18 - 2217 of 2279

Pity, I must have missed you at the mam do on Friday zarif. Did you stay for the dinner? Considering more seriously concentrating on the Dow after the meeting - I used to live in the States and focus more on it then but in the last five years have followed the FTSE.

zarif - 05 Oct 2004 17:20 - 2218 of 2279

Hi JJ50 -Yes I stayed at dinner and on my way back I figured it out in my brain that we had a lift with you to the emporium.(or have i got it wrong as usual)?
What are your views on the dow for the moment? Mine are that it is going to be case of pop and drop and black gold (crude) is on the rise again. Its a difficult call for sure.best to scalp rather than bth.

Hi zarif. No it wasn't me who gave you the lift to the Emporium!

Agree about scalping, it is my middle name at the moment! Difficult to judge the election effect but I don't see a lot of upside on the horizon and I am sitting on more cash than usual!

Regards, Jennifer

Very interesting article I picked up on the internet. It will be very interesting when the American Non-Farm numbers are released on Friday. IMHO, the US market will fall and UK will follow. Watch this space.

Other views please.

I think the drop has started! If DJ ends down 100 points, then expect a much bigger drop on Friday.

snoball - 07 Oct 2004 23:03 - 2226 of 2279

Charts signal sell on the Dow and S&P 500.
The Bullish Percentage still looks bullish as does the NASDAQ index of stocks over their 50 day ma's.

yes the sentiment, I beleive, has shifted to sell on the dow and pressure from oil and perhaps the corporate and econonmic data may add to the mix

hjs - 08 Oct 2004 13:53 - 2230 of 2279

Payroll figures are out and they are bad! DJ will fall. May be another 100 points+

hjs - 08 Oct 2004 14:03 - 2231 of 2279

WASHINGTON (AFX) -- The September nonfarm payroll data are 'terrible' with an increase in govermment jobs masking underlying weakness in job growth, said Robert Brusca, chief economist at FAO Economics. Although headline nonfarm payroll jobs grew by 96,000 in September, private sector employment only increased by 59,000 in September. 'We've had a number of false recoveries in this recovery and could this be another one and shouldn't we be more cautious and worried,' Brusca said.
