A (swimmer) friend had a problem with what he and the doctor thought was an ear infection which wouldn't clear up after repeated courses of antibiotics. He had been blaming it on the pool.
It eventually turned out to be a problem with his neck which an orthopaedic doctor sorted after he went to the hospital.

Earache is also often a symptom of tooth infection...

Great news on the car Opto - now some less welcome news...
Sorry to say I have picked up a computer virus, one of those
unknown types so if I have emailed any of you in the last few
days PLEASE run a virus check on your computer, as I don't know
if it's one that passes on via email - sorry folks, was only
noitifed by Norton about an hour ago, so far I can't do anything
about it - if anyone has any ideas please say.
(it can't be repaired, quarrentined or deleted by Norton)
I've put a post into the PC clinic thread in the traders room
to see if anyone can give me any ideas. File infected is
c:\\windows\system32\FScET.dll

Bunny, so sorry to hear about the virus. So maddening.
Kayak, yes ... investigated the tooth option but the dentist said no
problem there...may consider Hilary's neck option next!!! I am not normally neurotic but would be good to get it cleared up :-)
opto, the sort of advice I welcome!

I have noted your comment about a dog for Christmas and will bear it in mind. We usually have a turkey but are always open to new ideas.

Sputnik - thanks, I've been off-air for ages now doing the virus scan
etc but so far nothing is working and I am stuck with this virus,
goodness knows what it's doing - apart from messing up my system
restore facility, as that now wont work (wail!)
Thanks for the carrot cake I think I'll over dose on it whilst
pulling my fur out! :>(

With many viruses you have to disable the restore facility because its files will be infected. Once you computer is clean you can restore the restore facility but all your past restore points will have been lost. Does that make sense?
Have you identified the virus?

The virus unfortunately is an 'unknown' as far as Norton is concerned
it identifies it as a virus but so far it is too new for it to have
a name. I should be able to go back on system restore to an earlier
month if not a date but that is out of action.
Sputnik, I did download the prog from Microsoft - thanks for that, it's
a good prog - everyone check Sputnik's previous post for the details
well worth down loading. However although it has found a lot of
spyware it has been unable to tackle this virus - maybe we should call
it after the hospital superbug! :>(

Under advanced tools goto system explorers and then startup programs and see what is running on startup and block any odd files that are there also do the same for running processes you will most probably be able to find something there, also check your BHO's to see if there is anything hazardous.

buuny - from experience, rather than faff on for days/hours trying to fix probs that are prob beyond fixing (nasty viruses change the registry entries and hence change location every start-up), reload windows from fresh and partition the hard drive - this gives you a C and D drive , Load windows onto the C drive and keep all data, backups, secret lottery numbers etc on the D drive...the advantage is that you have the option to recover windows without losing data and can the benefit of a clean system at will....
