buuny - from experience, rather than faff on for days/hours trying to fix probs that are prob beyond fixing (nasty viruses change the registry entries and hence change location every start-up), reload windows from fresh and partition the hard drive - this gives you a C and D drive , Load windows onto the C drive and keep all data, backups, secret lottery numbers etc on the D drive...the advantage is that you have the option to recover windows without losing data and can the benefit of a clean system at will....

Sounds a bit complicated that dave... partitioning drive :-(

Good afternon all!! Where on earth is everyone? Not all have got Bunny's virus or Poochy's fleas Im sure.

I'm after some help and as this BB is full of clever folk I thought I'd turn to you. I'm thinking of transferring my pension funds into a SIPP and have had a gander at the offerings from James Hay, Sippdeal, Hargreaves Lansdown, etc. As some of you may have invested in SIPPs I would be grateful to know whether you would care to recommend a good provider. They would need to offer an efficient online service, with low charges. My pension funds are quite substantial so I need to avoid any Mickey Mouse outfits.

Hello grevis, welcome to Poochy's Palace! If you have access to the Traders' Room, might I suggest you visit the Pep/ISA/SIPP thread which can be searched on the EPIC of 'SIPP'. That thread is full of people with relevant experience and I'm sure they would be very helpful.

I do have a SIPP but not a substantial one and I'd be interested in the answers you get too as there could well be a better service on offer than my current provider.

If you don't have access to the Traders' Room, I'd be happy to post up your query for you and tell folks how to contact you, if you have enabled your 'user settings' to receive private messages.

Hi grevis, welcome to the cafe, unfortunately you seem to have hit upon a day when everybody is 'out of the country' but I'm sure they will be back soon.
My knowledge of pension funds and SIPPS is limited so I feel that I cannot give you any more info other than I do deal with TD Waterhouse on line and their service in this area is excellent. They also do SIPPS so it could be worth your while to consider them as well as the other possibilies.
I also must go out now so will not be available for further comment until later.

grevis 2 - I have a fairly substantial SIPP with comdirect and EPM Global - they work together and therefore all admin easy. There is an annual charge (not much) and 12.50 per trade charge. There are more competitive deals about but I had used comdirect for years and knew they were reliable and helpful. Details of the SIPP is on the www.comdirect website. See what Priscilla comes up with though!

jeffmack: I've had a good look at James Hay. I've somewhat dismissed them mainly due to their high charges. They have a set up fee and have an extra charge everytime you deal, which I don't like. I also thought their helpline person was not terribly good.

Priscilla: Many thanks for your efforts. I've had that cup of tea but ran out of cake yesterday.

jj50: Thanks for the info on comdirect. I've had a look at their website but their procedures for dealing with transfers-in seem less clear cut than some of their competitors
