From Digital Look:

The Telegraph looks at the oil sector. Of the oil majors, BP is a buy because of its dividend. For future production growth, it has a buy stance on Tullow Oil, Dana Petroleum, Afren and Venture Production. In liquefied natural gas, BG Group is the preferred play and there is a buy stance on three oil service companies: Wood Group, Petrofac and Cape.

Perhaps the oil price will settle in a $60 to $70 zone now after rocketing to $147 and then crashing to $35 and up again to $73.....who would have thought that it would do that just 2 years ago...?....a bit like a rubber ball dropped from a high rise building with the graph starting upon impact !.

required field - 08 Jul 2009 10:15 - 225 of 3666

This is a bouncy baby !...I still think that this will go to the pound level within a year !.

cynic - 08 Jul 2009 10:16 - 226 of 3666

i'm happy to hold these too

Balerboy - 08 Jul 2009 10:29 - 227 of 3666

I sold 50% for .60p now looking to get back in, reckon high 40's is as low as it will go.

cynic - 08 Jul 2009 11:24 - 228 of 3666

hmm! ...... chart is self-explanatory

Balerboy - 08 Jul 2009 11:26 - 229 of 3666

You think lower? iyo

cynic - 08 Jul 2009 11:37 - 230 of 3666

hard to know - well, one never does of course - but the oilies in general have taken quite an indiscriminate bashing of late.

indications are that AFR has a stack of potential and there is a reasonable argument that the 25 dma around just below the current price will give support ..... sp dipped below this morning, seemingly to touch 50 dma at +/-48

pays yer money, takes yer choice

oilyrag - 08 Jul 2009 11:37 - 231 of 3666

No, he thinks higher. Or else he wouldn't be happy to hold.

cynic - 08 Jul 2009 11:44 - 232 of 3666

doesn't actually follow ...... sp could easily fall further, but that would not change my stance ...... in fact, i have just topped up at 51.25, but may well use that piece for trading

Balerboy - 08 Jul 2009 11:44 - 233 of 3666

lol, cheers you two.

blanche - 08 Jul 2009 12:01 - 234 of 3666

Should bounce from these levels imo good support at 51p

blanche - 08 Jul 2009 12:02 - 235 of 3666

Like cynic said all oilers affected.

required field - 09 Jul 2009 09:23 - 236 of 3666

Starting to move up again....when are they going to move to the main market...hope I can put some in an Isa.

cynic - 09 Jul 2009 09:26 - 237 of 3666

topped up here yesterday ..... oilies in general are being beaten up in line with the tumbling crude price ..... in some ways a bit daft, especially with the likes of AFR and TLW which have made some huge and real finds in the recent past, and which will come on stream within the next year or two

required field - 09 Jul 2009 09:33 - 238 of 3666

The dumpers are piling back in from what I can see on my screen....love this stock...as long as oil does not plummet the sp has got to be up in upper nineties before next summer, perhaps even before. I still think that AFR would fit neatly into British Gas's porfolio (BG.).

required field - 09 Jul 2009 13:57 - 239 of 3666

Oil has risen by 50c (US) in the last half an hour, so quite some movement expected here as Afren more than others reacts incredibly on the ups and downs.

required field - 09 Jul 2009 14:19 - 240 of 3666

And now dropped by 80c....

required field - 16 Jul 2009 16:08 - 241 of 3666

The graph shows a steady rise..gentle but if the price of oil steadies or rises this could jump by 5p or so...many a time a stock can be priced up sharply with such a slow climb...

cynic - 16 Jul 2009 16:13 - 242 of 3666

though what you say is correct, that would be just general sentiment ..... i think the real action will come as news becomes available on progress on the Ebok field
