Isn't Sunday Roast a bit archaic, Jeff?

I can't remember the last time that we had a roast on a Sunday. It's normally a case of whatever's at the top of the freezer comes out and gets defrosted in the microwave shortly before we're ready to cook and eat. Yesterday though, I did make a large lasagne. In fact, thinking about it, it's about 8 or 9 years since we all sat down and had turkey on Xmas day. Last Xmas I seem to remember that we shared a fondue and for the previous umpteen Xmas' before that, it's been steak and prawns on the BBQ.

jeffmack - 06 Oct 2003 09:14 - 2244 of 23498

Hil
You are dead right, the traditional sunday roast is a thing of the past. Probably happens about 4 times a year in my household.

little willie - 06 Oct 2003 18:28 - 2245 of 23498

Oh c'mon you two miserable buggers;
I bet a case of Sauvignon Blanc that given the offer of Roast Leg of Lamb,
new spuds, fresh runners and either baby broad beans or garden peas with
onion sauce, mint sauce and thick real gravy
OR
rib-eye,sirloin, rump or fillet [a pretty tasteless cut imo]
.......................90% would take the roast..........................

OR it could just as easily be Leg of Pork with crackling and apple sauce, new carrots, cauli/white sauce

OR Wing Rib of Beef with roast parsnips, potatoes and real Yorkshire Puds
[not them bloody Aunt Bessies!] with onion gravy....

Oh Gawd, I'm salivating all over the keyboard..yum,yum,yum.

Well I bet thats me and Socs sorted, a lump of pizza or a Mexican wrap for the two aforementioned heathens.

Socrates - 06 Oct 2003 19:12 - 2246 of 23498

Hello all, poor old Socco has been in the grip of the tooth fairy. 55 for 20 minutes in the chair, I'm clearly in the wrong business.

All this talk of food is making me decidedly peckish, someone roast a cow for me whilst I get a very large loaf of bread. Sadly missed out on my desired Sunday dinner this week. I wanted a nice joint of Gloucester Old Spot pork but got to the butchers too late, none left. Had a nice roast chickadee instead.

You family people should get with the family quality time a bit. Everyone sat round a big table for an extended Sunday dinner with loads of grub and good conversation is a great bonding exercise.

I feel sorry for old LW, obviously hankering for the delights of the old country.

Sunday roast still happens every Sunday in our house as does turkey at Christmas.

Pretty pubby in here tonight, nice to see both jeffs are fine [jgp is up for a quicky on big mac, or is that the name of your mrs?], hightone is, well, high and TIM can nip over here for Sunday roast anytime.
Summer's just about here so soon we'll be literally roasting everyday plus the braii, of course, air con in every room.

Socs, yes, do hanker for a few things like long summer evenings and as you rightly say, The Sunday 'come all ye and gather round the table', beautiful grub, great company, plenty of bunny, throw a few bottles down your north and south, bit of a ceiliedh and then get ready for a high tea with TRIFLE ...aaggghhh! Hit me with it!
S'pose you've got that 'orrible numb mouth and if you have hot tea it all dribbles all over you. Hope ache has gone, a cold last week and now this, don't forget your flu jab!
Wooden hill is calling...

jgp212 - 06 Oct 2003 22:50 - 2260 of 23498

LW,

Big Mac and quicky went well and I'm bloody Nacked:-)

Five Times a day is far to much!

I need a JAB NOW:-)

Tother Jeff

Socrates - 07 Oct 2003 18:07 - 2261 of 23498

Good evening all.

Great to see such a crowd in last night. Contrary to LWs belief I did not have a sore face last night, just a sore wallet. The only extraction the dentist did was the 55. All that talk about lovely grub too and all I could think about was a Burger King Whopper with Cheese. Flu jab will be in a couple of weeks, now I get it free perhaps I'll have two!

I seem to have been very busy doing very little, in fact I've only just got round to looking at the IC. Can't think why I bother to be honest, usually read all about it on the BBs by the time I buy it.

little willie - 07 Oct 2003 19:49 - 2262 of 23498

Last night was a bit like the old days on another channel;
only the "Queen of Champers" aka Vasey and the "Queen of Chappers" were missing.
Perhaps they were like TIMs Mrs. He thought it was a quickie but she was really after his Wopper...

Poor day personally on the market; the longer I'm in it the less I understand it.
QUESTION??
One of my p/folio stock has declared TWO top and good contracts in the past seven days; on the first rns to supply Samsung mob phones with a world beater chip the price advanced presisely 1p to 40p.
The second rns, 2 days later, to supply Motorola with the same technology resulted in the price going DOWN .5p!!

Some of the more foolish contributors, in reassurance to themselves said the news was already in the price but that imho was impossible;
as I say, I don't understand it????

How's that work?????
