THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

“Selective Hearing”

Selective hearing is a way of describing the tendency of some people to ignore things that they do not want to hear. It is not a physiological or physical condition, as they are physically hearing the words, but their mind is choosing not to acknowledge what is being said. In many cases, the conscious mind does not appear to receive the information, so it is different than an active ignoring of speech. Rather, it is a sort of selective inattention that may be done consciously or subconsciously.

Immigrant families will be kept off council house waiting lists for up to five years under a crackdown being unveiled by Prime Minister David Cameron.
and about time too! .... why this was not brought in during Year 1 of this administration, heaven only knows, for the country has rightly been complaining about the soft treatment given to immigrants for many years - didn't that last gov't do well!

Haystack - 24 Mar 2013 16:07 - 22481 of 81564

The big scandal regarding immigration was when emails and internal Labour docements were leaked showing that the Labour party had a secret agenda to bring in large numbers of foreigners to change the demographics of the UK. They felt that immigrants would be more likely to vote Labour.

Nothing to do with you Fred.

A cop stops a car for traveling faster than the posted speed limit. Since he's in a good mood that day, he decides to give the driver a break and write him out a warning instead of a ticket. So, he asks the man his name.
"Fred," he replies.

"Fred what?" the officer asks.

"Just Fred," the man responds. When the officer presses him for a last name, the man explains that he used to have a last name, but he lost it.

The officer thinks he has a nutcase on his hands, but plays along. "Tell me Fred, how did you lose your last name?" he asks.

The man replies, "It's a long story, so stay with me. I was born Fred Dingaling. I know, funny last name. The kids used to tease me all the time, so I stayed to myself. I studied hard and got good grades. When I got older, I realized that I wanted to be a doctor. I went through college, medical school, internship, residency, finally got my degree; so I was Fred Dingaling, MD.

After a while, I got bored being a doctor; so I decided to go back to school.

Dentistry was my dream. Got all the way through school, got my degree, so I was now Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS. Got bored doing dentistry, so I started fooling around with my assistant. She gave me VD. So, I was Fred Dingaling, MD, DDS with VD. Well, the ADA found out about the VD, so they took away my DDS. So, I was Fred Dingaling MD with VD.

Then, the AMA found out about the ADA taking away my DDS because of the VD, so they took away my MD, leaving me as Fred Dingaling with VD. Then, the VD took away my dingaling, so now I'm just Fred."

The officer was laughing so hard he was in tears, as he tore up the warning ticket and walked away.

The gulf stream has moved to far South, giving us this cold snap from the East. As long as it returns to where it should sit. As long as we do not get another wet summer.

Hays,

Post 22483

Nobody read it other than those at tory headquarters.

Don't be daft, look at the logistics of what you propose.

But having written that, perhaps, just perhaps, it was sent out on April 1st

Mind, with the populist rantings of the present tory leadership, they are considering it, before another U-turn.

The laughable thing about the present hierarchy, is that the tory party use to be respected, even if some weren't respectable.

(The latter were generally hidden away.)

Why doesn't the present mob, think out and consider their policies before opening their mouths?

The Labour documents were not discussing what they might do, but what they were doing. There are no logistical problems involved. All they had to and did was to relax all immigration controls, allow fake students to come here and take asylum seekers bogus or not.

Fred1new - 24 Mar 2013 22:47 - 22493 of 81564

A simple question to ask yourself is, in general, where do the majority of immigrants end up when they arrive in a New country.

You can work out the other questions and answers for yourself.

Daft.

---------------

As daft and as ill-thought out as the Bedroom Tax is.

Also, although there is probably needs to rationalise the rate, or degree of immigration into this country, unless regulations are introduced sensibly then there may be a back lash from many who are already in the country and "maybe" on those UK citizens in other EU countries.

Also, many proposals will not be applicable on EU citizens under EU regulations.

But I am glad Cameron as invited students from India to support UK universities.

A tricky area.

Again, another ill-thought out populist appeal by Cameron to the barmy right arm of tory party.

You can fool the voters 3weeks before the election with false promises.

Two years out. He is fooling himself.

THREATS IN 2013 EUROPE from JOHN CLEESE

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual. The only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final level.

Regards,

John Cleese,

British writer, actor and tall person

And as a final thought - Greece is collapsing, the Iranians are getting aggressive, and Rome is in disarray. Welcome back to 430 BC.
