THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

THREATS IN 2013 EUROPE from JOHN CLEESE

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

The French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide." The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender." The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing." Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs." They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual. The only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate." Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the barbie this weekend!" and "The barbie is cancelled." So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final level.

Regards,

John Cleese,

British writer, actor and tall person

And as a final thought - Greece is collapsing, the Iranians are getting aggressive, and Rome is in disarray. Welcome back to 430 BC.

Fred1new - 26 Mar 2013 19:16 - 22509 of 81564

Will the bedroom Tax be the last nail in Cameron's coffin, or has the bully boy picked on another minority group to appear tough and the Barmy Right Wing army.

Besides having a Tax cut for himself and mates. How many empty bedrooms does he have for family members when they want or drop in.

( I suppose he considers it a reward for being in government and trashing the country's economy.)

Mind he has assured us "WE are ALL in it TOGETHER"?

I await the next U-turn!

Haystack - 26 Mar 2013 19:31 - 22510 of 81564

No such thing as a bedroom tax. A tax is defined differently.

cynic - 26 Mar 2013 20:22 - 22511 of 81564

i fully understand the logic behind this cut in benefit, but i am unsure whether or not i agree with its application .... further thought required

dreamcatcher - 26 Mar 2013 20:27 - 22512 of 81564

('' I suppose he considers it a reward for being in government and trashing the country's economy.'') Fred do the Labour party pay you for this input. lol , sorry I laughed my head off.

Monday 25 March 2013

Labour has made no progress in winning the economic argument in the past year despite the Government’s failure to secure growth, according to a new poll for The Independent.

David Cameron and George Osborne are still trusted by more people than the Labour team of Ed Miliband and Ed Balls to take the right decisions on the economy, the post-Budget survey by ComRes found. Some 29 per cent of people trust the Prime Minister and his Chancellor, while 58 per cent do not – a net rating of minus 29 points. But only 22 per cent trust the Labour leader and shadow Chancellor, while 62 per cent do not – a net rating of minus 40 points.

One in three Labour supporters are not yet convinced about their party’s economic credentials. Thirty-five per cent do not trust Mr Miliband and Mr Balls to take the right decisions.
