FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

12800 ultimately Richard, depends wot it does in between though :)

Strawbs - 26 Nov 2007 16:25 - 226 of 21973

If it drops from here I wouldn't expect much help before 12520 ish (and that's only an intra day support point on the candlestick chart on Aug 16th).

In my opinion.

Strawbs.

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 16:29 - 227 of 21973

agree with you Peter, though even if heading that way, may well take my profit a little earlier

foale - 26 Nov 2007 16:34 - 228 of 21973

no one thinking that 12900 will hold...?

foale - 26 Nov 2007 16:36 - 229 of 21973

I would have thought we had seen the Dow lows until 8pm...

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 16:45 - 230 of 21973

excuse me foale, but what has 8.00 om got to do wqith the level of Dow? .... do you think it will pause while the Brits go home and enjoy their dinner with a fine bottle of wine?

ptholden - 26 Nov 2007 16:52 - 231 of 21973

Having dropped through 950 with some alacrity and thus failed to climb back through would rather expect another assault on 900, but it never does what I want it to :)

ptholden - 26 Nov 2007 17:36 - 232 of 21973

Like I said, never does what you want or even expect

foale - 26 Nov 2007 17:37 - 233 of 21973

The whole day of the Dow is a set up for the last 30-60 min imo....
nothing to do with uk....8pm uk is the last hour in NY trading...

Monday night "fine bottle of wine" you obvoiusly know a differnt set of "Brits" to me... KFC more like lol

16:36 my last post....low of the Dow ...spot on....
and now at 12980 more like a retrace down...

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 17:44 - 234 of 21973

do a lot of the cooking at home .... good job i'm not french or might be tempted by a foale-burger .... as it is, i have made a decent coq au vin and shall open something respectable to go with - suppose it should be something like '96 Gevrey

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 17:49 - 235 of 21973

Sounds delicious - can we come and join you then??

ptholden - 26 Nov 2007 17:52 - 236 of 21973

Reckon I'll crack a bottle of Blue Nun :)

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 18:00 - 237 of 21973

Cynic's gone awfully quiet - guess he's afraid we might be gate-crashing his dinner.

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 18:15 - 238 of 21973

bloody right .... plumped for a bot of '93 Vougeot .... afraid i have far too much fine wine, and fear i shall be forced to sell at least some before it gets too old .... but will reinvest in wine

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 18:16 - 239 of 21973

Probably better than investing in some of the shares that have been touted here.

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 18:24 - 240 of 21973

that's an easy call!

on a more serious note ..... Dow tried to stagger back through 13000 but has failed .... also hear that US shoppers in this key weekend and week are out in numbers but spending less .... not a good prognosis

ptholden - 26 Nov 2007 18:26 - 241 of 21973

Richard if you have too much quality wine going you cannot drink, feel free to decant it in my direction :)

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 18:26 - 242 of 21973

Don't let that coq au vin get cold now! Humble spag bolog here tonight, albeit with wine - but at least I don't have to cook it!

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 18:27 - 243 of 21973

shall tempt you down south instead

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 18:28 - 244 of 21973

who's making the spag bol? ..... really good if you can be bothered to spend the time to let the sauce simmer for a few hours and then keep it o'night ...... my cluck is not scheduled until about 7.30 .... made it over w/e so just needs gentle reheating, but doing jacket potatoes to go with
