As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. sdunwell: That's really bizarre because we all use Chrome here and we can't replicate the problem. Also, I don't know what you mean about a hotlink reference to cookies. Execline: I've seen the problem happening on sdunwell's computer. I really don't understand why it's happened and we can't replicate it by force, but it seems to be a browser + Java bug. Once we get rid of Java trades this won't be an issue. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime and thanks for letting us know of the problem.

At last! No more java errors just when I'm checking a price to trade! Thanks

Clicked on your link and it worked fine. Using a clean Chrome browser launch.

Clicked on Java Stockwatch. 'T' works fine.

Click on HTML Stockwatch using the same window. Stockwatch works fine.

Click on a 'T' whilst on the HTML Stockwatch page and Trades do not work. I just get the control box but no Live Stream Trades. They just don't work. Other nonJava trades work OK.

I had just updated Java for Chrome (done automatically), for IE (but haven't yet launched an IE browser yet) and for 'Other Browsers' (but haven't used any other browsers yet) before trying out the 'T' links as described.

Anyhow, for the moment I can get them by using the old Java Stockwatch and clicking on 'T' from there or going straight to Trades using a clean fresh Chrome browser launch.

Never subscribed to pay for live streaming and share dealing on this site as I mainly use ipad and iphone which are not Java compatible but if this new system is kept I will subscribe as it now works great on apple devices

Beta version working well on my Macbook,more reliable than Java version.

Works well for me. I am finding it very useful when away from home since it will stream prices on my Android Galaxy S3.

Trying to support the change
Was using IE7 no success , upgraded to IE 8 no problems.
Focusing on a single Equity (RRS) observed a slight delay between JAVA and HTML. With Java providing the data first.
Is it the case that Java does deliver the data in advance of HTML ?

I agree with comments on the boxed format, which is no too easy on the eye. In all other respects it is an improvement on the Java version that was often difficult to access.

Using Firefox and it works fine. The Java version seems to have continual problems displaying the 'Stockwatch' page, so the non-Java option is just what we wanted. Please could you make it an option we can set as soon as possible!
