Hi gang,
Mozilla Firefox and Sun Java work just fine with MoneyAM (and most everything else that I've tried), but I found that some aspects of other sites (eg Finspreads) seemed to have a few problems still. This is because many of these City sites are not too well constructed in the sense that they only test with IE which is quite forgiving of lousy Javascript.
However, the Opera browser
http://www.opera.com and Sun Java work well with everything that I've tried.
Opera is not free: if you don't buy it, it throws a changing ad at top right: however, you can configure it to throw text-only ads which are simply text Google searches based on the site content you're looking at. So, when you access financial sites, it suggests others.
Personally, I found this quite unobtrusive.
IE has been subject to a U.S. CERT advisory which simply said that the only safe thing to do was not to use it. So I don't.

My Dell ultrasharp TFT screen has become blurry - i.e. the ultrasharp is now slightly blurred at the edges - and I'm wearing my new glasses so no ribbing about the eyesight please ;-)
What could be the matter? Nearly a year old and still (hopefully) under warranty with the folks I bought it on ebay from. Is it something to do with the driver, or is it a faulty monitor. It is the same whether it's run on analogue or digital, and is the same when used on my old Win 98 PC.
All help gratefully received.
Also thinking of buying a new TFT screen to add -
This seems a great monitor 204 plus delivery on ebuyer. Anyone got any better ideas?

SC, a few questions, have you changed any setting in either the monitor or your graphics card? Have you changed the cable? Can you link the change to anything else? eg new software?

Nothing altered. It seemed to happen when my son played a new game on the old machine and has been the same ever since. Still legible and freinds without a tft are jealous but not crisp any more.
No settings altered other than sometimes change the resolution to larger print to make it comfortable to read.

SC, I suspect something has been changed possibly by the game, is there a way of resetting the TFT back to factory setting? have a look in the manual? its also possible that the refresh rate may have been set to high it should only be ablut 60 for a tft.
I cant rule it out but I would be very surprised if its a fault.

How do I adjust the refresh rate? There is a facility with the buttons to reset to factory settings. Will try now.
Hmm, just the same. Possibly refresh rate then.

I've just cleaned up my XP PC at work - and today, as I was flicking between sites on Mam, I got this macromedia flash-up. I cancelled it, and it didn't seem to affect anything - is this normal?
Sorry, I don't know much :(
PS it's never happened on my 2K PC here.

chocolat, MAM do sometimes have flash ads, they are the one I find the most annoying and are the reason I now use ad blocking software.
PS whats work?

Space - I used to have the google blocker - now it's something else (can't remember - is it MSN windows?) and yes, when I log into Mam, the blocker tells me about it. But this macromedia thingie was invoking me to download something.

chocolat, the google toolbar has a pop up ad blocker (probably replaced by the XP sp2 pop up blocker) but it and the XP one only stop some types of pop ups.
I dont know which one you had but I know MAM have (or had) a GNI flash ad recently. Your Browser is probably trying to run it and saying it needs an add in which it wants to download, thats probably what you cancelled and it should not cause any problems.
You didnt tell me what work is ??? ;-)

chocolat, it's just asking you to download the flash player. Flash is a type of multimedia format, a bit like video, that is used in a number of places including advertising. Safe to download and you will eventually have to for something.

So if it happens again, I should download it?
I didn't notice the work thingie first time, Space - it's what we late night saddos have to do during the day to fill in the time. ;)
Edit: oops thanks guys, didn't see your posts.

>> MoneyAM Homepage Consuming High CPU Resources
Wondered if anybody else has this problem, or can help explain. Thanks.
My Int Explorer is consuming over 50% CPU resources, when on the MoneyAM Homepage. Opening 2 instances, max's out the CPU. Thats how I noticed it, PC was very slow when I opened a few IE6's (my homepage is set to am homepage).
No problem when I move to Traders Room page, or a whole selection of other sites, including d4f Spreadbet lite.
This PC is a P2 350 on Win98 and IE6. But trying one MoneyAM homepage on a faster PC, eg P3 800 on Win2000 & IE6, still ties-up 15% CPU resources, which is a lot higher than any other site / page.
Any comments / help / pointers/ etc much appreciated.
Regards, D.
