ALCHEMY - 20 Nov 2006 19:34 - 22572 of 27111

greekman, interested to hear how you get on with Asda customer services. I am currently trying to find out some info direct with Asda as i work for a company in Asda's supply chain. Will update here as and when.

alfalfa - 20 Nov 2006 23:46 - 22573 of 27111

greekman - A half-page article appeared in last Tuesday's Guardian, prompted by the minister's suggestions to leave any perceived excess packaging at the point of sale, i.e. at the supermarket tills.

A spokesman for ASDA described the minister's call as "an interesting development.....although they werent sure how helpful it was".

On the other hand, ASDA said it was making small changes which have a big impact - such as taking pizzas out of cardboard boxes which will save 747 tonnes of cardboard each year.

The bit that made me sit up was the statement from ASDA that they were also "rolling out the best recycling machines in the world".

Anyone know who might make these ?

Alfa.

greekman - 21 Nov 2006 07:15 - 22574 of 27111

Alfa,
Been following all the issues including the articles mentioned.
Although I am aware of ASDA's green policies,I thought showing complete ignorance of said issues/policies would serve my enquiry best.
Lets hope those 9 highlighted words from your post mean what we hope they mean.
Greek.

greekman - 21 Nov 2006 07:34 - 22575 of 27111

Just put ASDA into google news and found a link to my post 22571.

"Probably wont do any good but cant do any harm either".
May encourage others to contact ASDA customer services.

(fame at last).

Nice one, greekman.

I hope so, too - but I'm sure that New Earth Solutions are having a say in it.

sellsell - 21 Nov 2006 09:06 - 22578 of 27111

this is like a poker game - tension is building wondering which way this will be going!

bhunt1910 - 21 Nov 2006 09:07 - 22579 of 27111

Long term this will rise.

Short term - who knows

stockdog - 21 Nov 2006 10:17 - 22580 of 27111

Chart could be a shallow cup and handle forming. If we break 2p we'll go to 3p quite soon - IF!

boldtrader - 21 Nov 2006 12:15 - 22581 of 27111

Good luck to all holding, ever being the optimist i think we'll make it. Cheers.

Mad Pad - 21 Nov 2006 17:36 - 22587 of 27111

Look on the other board Oily ma.....Also now you are awake look at Monday 18.22 on iii, interesting post could be genuine. Can anyone vouch for him?,but it's odd that he says that SEO say directors appointments are not worthy of an RNS,STRANGE.

greekman - 21 Nov 2006 17:40 - 22588 of 27111

Received this reply to my E-Mail from ASDA.
Not telling me really anything worthwhile.
Whilst I did not expect any info that was not in the public domain, I was hoping for a hint of SEO (Obviously not by name) but by reference.
See reply below although not really worth reading.

Dear Mr ..........

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding recycling.

At ASDA, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. ASDA are
always looking at ways to minimise the amount of packaging around our own brand
products. Product packaging adds significantly to the overall cost of the
products that we sell to our customers, which is obviously something that we
want to avoid if we are to deliver Every Day Low Prices for our customers.

ASDA are working closely with the DEFRA funded Waste and Action Resource
Programme (WRAP) to identify opportunities to reduce product packaging.
Furthermore, we are committed to making customer recycling as easy as possible.
At present we facilitate front of store recycling through the provision of a
recycling centre at 95% of our stores. We also offer in-store recycling of
mobile phones, printer cartridges and single use disposable cameras. Last year
ASDA recycled 140,000 tonnes of cardboard (8% of the UK cardboard market) and
6,000 tonnes of plastic from waste arising at the back of our stores and we have
signed up to the Cauthold Agreement giving a commitment to make 'absolute'
reductions in own brand packaging by 2010.

We are always pleased to receive feedback from our customers and I am grateful
to you for taking the time to contact us.

I hope we can look forward to serving you at ASDA again soon and if I can help
any further, please let me know.

Yours Sincerely
Gemma Ramsden
ASDA Customer Relations

For those interested in what the Cauthold Agreement is try this link http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/latest/2005/waste-0726.htm

Wish I hadn't have bothered.

bhunt1910 - 21 Nov 2006 17:52 - 22589 of 27111

Mad Pad - yes - Ali on another board talks of being 90% certain of news tomorrow.

I am very very cynical - but did not want to totally discount him - hence my enquiry here.

I suspect it is another red herring - but !!

Alan - you up and running yet - or does that posh pad of yours not have electricity yet ?

Mad Pad - 21 Nov 2006 17:55 - 22590 of 27111

Bas, OK no news then.

bhunt1910 - 21 Nov 2006 18:09 - 22591 of 27111
