How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Pretty poor quality start to the match!

Always gonna be when one side have no intent of crossing the half way line and just kick lumps out of anything that moves

Getting better now scrip!!!

off to green up

Scripophilist - 16 Apr 2005 13:26 - 2279 of 10502

I can't see Blackburn winning, the seem to be kicking everything other than the ball.

theyre completely devoid of ideas apart from how to kick lumps - the side is set up defensivly, their only hope of scoring in the first half would have been set pieces - theyve played like this for the last 6 or 8 games with most finishing 0-0 or 1-0

Fundamentalist - 16 Apr 2005 13:46 - 2281 of 10502

Blackburn obviously havent done enough kicking of players - theyve brought savage on to increase their commitment to this area

An easy win in the end for Arsenal. Can't see Newc pulling off a shock against Man U.

Good afternoon for Southampton I just hope Norwich can hold Palace (I can't believe I said that, what a mess we are in). Come on you reds!

Disaster, I just get the feeling this is the season where it all goes wrong. We have thrown away so many two goal leads. Why can't Villa just let us win.

Scripophilist - 16 Apr 2005 17:10 - 2286 of 10502

Gutted!

kernow - 16 Apr 2005 17:15 - 2287 of 10502

Hey, this is why I always say never trade something you are emotionally attached too. Still in a state of denial. Almost put my foot through the TV this morning while watching match of the day!

Anyhow, Was due to be in London today to watch the London Marathon but am behind my PC trading it instead this morning.

i assume you backed Radcliffe then layed her off?

will she last home at this pace - i hope so

Scripophilist - 17 Apr 2005 10:16 - 2291 of 10502

"will she last home at this pace - i hope so"

I used to run competitively so I can feel each stride. Radcliffe is weird in that she seems to be able to keep going ad infinitum. I always used to get to 18-20 miles then fall apart. The marathon was always a killer for me.

Usually in long distance events you watch the field and keep an eye on the leader and lay at short odds. You usually get at least one outperformer in the field and when you are in the lead with no referance point other than time it is difficult to pace yourself correctly. Paula is an exception to the rule but as I am green I will be keeping an eye on how things progress.

BTW, Arsenal odds on the FA CUP are too short unless Newcastle win today.

Scripophilist - 17 Apr 2005 10:19 - 2292 of 10502

How often do you get to say you laid half the women runners in the London Marathon?

Fundamentalist - 17 Apr 2005 14:30 - 2293 of 10502

Scrip

you only laid half of them lol - must be losing your touch!!!

Newcastle look poor - United should win easily now there one in front (i got home just as they scored)

John, Bakko et al - see you in the final :-)

Scripophilist - 17 Apr 2005 14:58 - 2294 of 10502

A very funny moment in the Woman's London marathon. When Paula stopped to relieve herself it wasn't only her that was pooing herself, her price on the exchanges went out from 1.08 to 1.50, 20k matched at 1.50 on the thought she had just dropped out of the race. A classic betting exchange moment for sure. I recorded the odds and will analyse later but I reckon it took around 15-20 seconds for the price to drift right out.

i heard it happen on the radio - the commentators were really panicking - they had just praised her courage etc and then suddenly though they were going to be eating their words

Anyone on the racing this pm - Listowel will start approx 30 mins late, if at all - weather been horrendous and the ground will be bottomless at best!!!
