Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 08:11 - 2278 of 12628

I'm wondering about the immigrant and high density ethnic quarters will they be scared of leave or afraid of remain.

Fred1new - 25 May 2016 08:17 - 2279 of 12628

They are staying!

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 08:19 - 2280 of 12628

Of course you know them all .

Don’t trust Blair on the EU
Tony Blair has made an intervention in the referendum debate to call on the UK to stay in the EU. However, his record on this issue is abysmal.
He was responsible for giving away money and power to Brussels and led the campaign to scrap the pound. As recently as 2011, he still maintained that Britain should join the euro, which would have been disastrous for our economy.
He signed the UK up to the Charter of Fundamental Rights which gave unelected EU judges more power over UK law. He promised us a referendum before handing more powers to the EU, but then agreed to the Lisbon Treaty without giving people the vote. Nothing has changed - he can’t be trusted.

It seems to me that the remain camp are just pulling any old figures out of a hat about exiting the EU !.....to them it's all about money....they don't give a damn that the country will be overrun with dodgy people from god knows where : they have a very short term view with just greed in mind.....if we exit : then we have control over our borders for ever !.....is trade with our European partners going to stop just because we don't have a seat in the European parliament ?...of course not.....scaremongering people into voting for the status quo in fact ....

cynic - 25 May 2016 09:51 - 2287 of 12628

IG betting is ever stronger that "in" will win

Some big names here .........................

Generals fight for Brexit: Our forces would be stronger outside 'not fit for purpose' EU, says a dozen former top brass

Former military top brass say EU has become 'intrusive' and 'out of control'
They reject the idea Brexit would have a negative impact on UK's defence
One of Britain's most respected generals - Sir Michael Rose - claims EU law has seriously undermined the country's combat effectiveness

You can have as many polls as you like but it's going to come down to who can get their voters out on the day imo.

Those voting to leave will have a stronger incentive to vote while the stay campaign may struggle to get the under 25's off their iPhones long enough to vote.

Just a thought.

Dil - 25 May 2016 10:04 - 2290 of 12628

Lethargy could well play a big part in the final outcome.

cynic - 25 May 2016 10:19 - 2291 of 12628

face up to it ...... there are almost no certainties in this referendum, and certainly none on the uk economic front

the only absolute certainty that i perceive is that if we stay in then there will be a slow but inevitable absorption into a federal europe

jimmy b - 25 May 2016 10:32 - 2292 of 12628

Dil's right .

will10 - 25 May 2016 10:59 - 2293 of 12628

We need a close vote.... say around 53% In.

Just enough to show we accept the economic benefit arguement of the single market but we have concerns on many other areas. A high % In vote will not be as effective.

Can't understand why the leave campaign allow Boris the Buffoon to hog the limelight. Surely their best man should be Nigel. He is Mr Out in the public eye. Boris just sucks up all the publicity, poor Nigel can hardly get a look in. He looks well pissed that Boris and his bananas get the headlines.

Old David Owen showed up on TV the other night, another self entitled has been. He looked well pissed off with things, the sad, demonic, suck back eyes hinting at a lost soul that still can't believe the public don't hang on his every word.

Without Nigel to level things up the remain campaign will pull too far ahead.

We need that close result.

jimmy b - 25 May 2016 11:01 - 2294 of 12628

We need to vote out or i dread to think what Britain will look like in 10 / 20 years .

cynic - 25 May 2016 11:10 - 2295 of 12628

and in 20 years time, probably without me too - i'm likely to be dead!

iturama - 25 May 2016 11:19 - 2296 of 12628

ICM put out their weekly EU online poll yesterday. Topline figures were REMAIN 45%, LEAVE 45%, DON’T KNOW 10%
The actual result will only be known on June 24, so do your bit and go out and vote.

The problem with the economic forecasts is that they assume the status quo. No intelligent response or intervention. It is like being on the motorway and being warned that you will die because the traffic is slowing down. We have brakes, steering wheel and a brain.
Maybe they are right since we appear to be led by mules - although having ridden one on precipitous mountains in Ecuador, I would rate the mules as more intelligent and trustworthy.
Gordon Brown is in Brussels to reassure the EU. What has that has-been got to do with anything? Give them oxygen and the roaches come out.

grannyboy - 25 May 2016 11:20 - 2297 of 12628

Nigels on the march with his road show, I'd have liked to see Nigel
in a one on one with cameron, but the snake oil salesman 'dave' hasn't the
guts.....
