Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

cynic - 25 May 2016 11:10 - 2295 of 12628

and in 20 years time, probably without me too - i'm likely to be dead!

iturama - 25 May 2016 11:19 - 2296 of 12628

ICM put out their weekly EU online poll yesterday. Topline figures were REMAIN 45%, LEAVE 45%, DON’T KNOW 10%
The actual result will only be known on June 24, so do your bit and go out and vote.

The problem with the economic forecasts is that they assume the status quo. No intelligent response or intervention. It is like being on the motorway and being warned that you will die because the traffic is slowing down. We have brakes, steering wheel and a brain.
Maybe they are right since we appear to be led by mules - although having ridden one on precipitous mountains in Ecuador, I would rate the mules as more intelligent and trustworthy.
Gordon Brown is in Brussels to reassure the EU. What has that has-been got to do with anything? Give them oxygen and the roaches come out.

Nigels on the march with his road show, I'd have liked to see Nigel
in a one on one with cameron, but the snake oil salesman 'dave' hasn't the
guts.....

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 11:20 - 2298 of 12628

jimmy you talking about USA , i did see a bit of a prog last night about the rise of the KKK due to increase in immigrants etc . No idea of validity , can't really watch that sort of thing .

grannyboy - 25 May 2016 11:24 - 2299 of 12628

gordon brown will be fawning over the commisioners at Brussels HQ,
and putting his grubby paws out for a plum EU job, along the lines of the
Kinnocks.

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 11:29 - 2300 of 12628

This is the problem with the EU grannyboy they'll take anyone in there . Look at Glegg .

grannyboy - 25 May 2016 11:30 - 2301 of 12628

Nigel Farage just interviewed on BBC, and gave a good response to the IFS's
corrupt, paid for by the remainer's, biased economic tsunami report.

MaxK - 25 May 2016 11:37 - 2302 of 12628

The leave campaign has been hijacked by Trojans.

Boris is a distraction, he was never in the out team, just there as a spoiler.

Claret Dragon - 25 May 2016 11:45 - 2303 of 12628

Brown- The man who sıgned The Lısbon Treaty ın a darkened room!!!

ExecLine - 25 May 2016 11:49 - 2304 of 12628

We're pleased to see our own MP, Andrea Leadsom, is a strong Brexit campaigner.

And her opinion on the latest Treasury report, which forecasts 'complete Armageddon' if we leave the EU?

Well, she says, "If you put garbage in, to use as the fundementals for the argument, then you get garbage out."

But Boris is a massive disappointment. Like most others, we absolutely love to hear what Nigel Farage has to say about the EU and reckon he could win Brexit on his own. If they've made a decision to quieten him down, which would appear to be the case, then it looks like we are doomed to have to stay in the EU for good. How pathetic!

grannyboy - 25 May 2016 11:54 - 2305 of 12628

Yes i've been impressed with your MP Andrea Leadsom, she puts up a
good argument, and plenty of fiscal experience.

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 12:06 - 2306 of 12628

There's also a Labour lady MP who is for Brexit , Gisella Stewart , treats the remainers with equal contempt .

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 12:08 - 2307 of 12628

Greece just got 10 billion euro bailout relief , more money down the drain great advert .

grannyboy - 25 May 2016 12:16 - 2308 of 12628

Gisella Stewart just been on DP, not to keen on her debating skills.

VICTIM they'l keep pouring money into Greece, no matter how much
destitution it brings to the population, just to keep the EU
project on track, it's all down to any turmoil turning up in Italy or
France, then it would be curtains.

VICTIM - 25 May 2016 12:22 - 2309 of 12628

Well it's the fact she's Labour , there aren't many gutsy enough to proclaim Brexit .

will10 - 25 May 2016 12:30 - 2310 of 12628

One of the many problems the Brexit camp have is how do they reassure the average punter, who is straddled with mortgage debit and day to day life, that the economy will be any better on exit of the EU.

The outers don't trust any economic data readly available. They have no creditable forecast. They say things like ..".it will be bad for a few years then maybe get better."..

The average punter sees it has it is now, he has a job, the kids are in school and he absolutely will not take the risk of loosing this. For ford focus man, he is doing well in the EU.

Old voters, with the mortgage paid off don't have to consider that risk.
Younger voters are much more European in outlook.. and any way if it all goes bad they can vote to drop out later.

My closest city is Bristol, there over 15% of the residents were not born in the UK. It has a strong economy, very European in outlook, but easily recognisable as an English city. why would a majority vote out.

Much the same goes for the whole of the southwest.

I'm angling for a close vote, whilst watching the Tory's rip into each other.

will10 - 25 May 2016 12:59 - 2311 of 12628

Here's a Brexit Tory mp that should be given more air time. Dr Sarah Wollaston. I would put her up as a possible Tory leader.
She's the one refusing to hand out Brexit NHS leflets because of false claims.

She makes good points.

jimmy b - 25 May 2016 13:50 - 2312 of 12628

10 / 20 years down the road we will have another 5 million migrants in the UK how will we be then for jobs/NHS/schools etc , also we will just be a region of the Euro think of the long game .

grannyboy - 25 May 2016 14:04 - 2313 of 12628

"The outer's don't trust any economic data readily available"

What you mean the data that profess to foresee the economy in 2030
using dodgy figures and analogies...Or the negative data input into the
computer program, to get negative output, just like todays IFS report...

But the problem with that is, if you pay for a report and want a negative
result, thats what you get....Which is NOT a true outcome!!.

And as will10 keeps telling us 'its all about economics'

Yes that's very true...Economics and trading/commerce....It does not
need a political union..
