Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

The newly-retired boss of Britain's Border Agency has admitted that immigration to this country was out of control under Labour and politicians have no idea 'who is here and who isn't'.
Tony Smith, who retired from the UK Border Force last month, blamed the problem on a surge of illegal immigrants who came to the country between 2000-2003.
He said: 'There was a huge influx and frankly I don't think we have ever recovered from that'.
Speaking as ministers attempted to tackle a backlog of 750,000 cases, Mr Smith said the problem began over a decade
if they go to these filthy takeaways at 3am allover the country they will find them sleeping on the floors

Surely it must be a state funeral for Thatcher.

Before Thatcher we were called 'the sick man of Europe' due to the problems we had with our unions and their grip on industry. Thatcher beat off the communist Scargil, crushed the power of the unions and changed the UK into a thriving country. When we had Thatcher as PM, we were the envy of the world. Virtually every other country wished that they had a PM like ours.

WSC had a state funeral, but that would have been (i suspect) in recognition of his role in WW2 .....
though MT was a very fine PM (imo), she could surely not be considered to have similar attributes ...... bambi would then expect similar!

I don't think political leaders are usually given state funerals in peacetime. Churchill was an exception due to his political influence during WW2, but I think it would set a tricky precedent if she was now granted one.

Hays,
I think the tories should pay the funeral expenses for their icon.
A state funeral would be a waste of tax payers money.
Or perhaps, the funeral expenses should be paid out of a whip around at the Dog and Duck and the tory party membership.
I hope they don't try recycling her.

Very sad news. I think she served this country with dignity and integrity - two qualities sadly lacking in the current crop of politicians.

Which means that labour MP's should pay for their leader's funeral expenses when they pass away. I wonder if they would want to be buried by the local authority according to good socialist principles?

let's leave the village idiot's ramblings at the bottom of his beer glass or pub urinal, where they belong ......
i suspect the normal course of events is that an ex PM's funeral remains primarily a family affair ...... it may be that parliament will wish to allocate some funds towards same as a mark of respect, but i have no idea whether or not such a "donation" is customary .... if not, it would set a rather uncomfortable precedent

Tanker your post 22979 is truly appalling. You should be ashamed of yourself for making a comment like that in the immediate aftermath of her death.
