whatuwant - 21 Aug 2006 13:28

Read the latest interims.......just make sure that you are sitting down.

Too far too fast, imo.
Expect a bounce, but hopefully this is the start of the up-trend.

moneyplus - 27 Mar 2008 15:14 - 2298 of 3050

I did well on these before they fell from grace---I'm pleased to say I'm back in in a small way. After the general sell out pre 5th April--I'm hoping for a great recovery in the sp.

ptholden - 27 Mar 2008 15:27 - 2299 of 3050

Any SOLA rally will be sold into, the shorters will be happy to see the latest rise and pick their moment. Happens every time.

Greyhound - 27 Mar 2008 15:34 - 2300 of 3050

But that doesn't mean it will always happen

halifax - 27 Mar 2008 15:37 - 2301 of 3050

Short at 315p before Goldman Suchs do.

cynic - 27 Mar 2008 15:38 - 2302 of 3050

markets in general are very strange at the moment ..... i remain amazed that both Dow and FTSE have been so resilient, though Dow is really struggling to hold above 12400/12450, let alone break the fairly modest resistance at 12600

ptholden - 27 Mar 2008 15:42 - 2303 of 3050

Greyhound, the company is based on a mountain of debt. I did a huge amount of research into this company about a year ago and based on that research I came up with a valuation of approx 150p. Since then they have failed to achieve production targets on time, have reduced margins and of course the ADR dilution. Of course my own research might be a load of tosh, but as far as my TA is concerned I've called it right most of the time. I have no position, just a few thoughts.

pth

pth, don't dispute your comments but as we know there is often no rhyme or reason to some moves we're seeing. I agree there will be profit taken, but no reason to suspect that it isn't possible to double your money here in pretty quick time. Just as a lot of us have made no mean sums shorting here. Just my views here currently, we saw big gains off 2 back in 2005 and back last summer.

halifax - 27 Mar 2008 15:51 - 2305 of 3050

pth surprised you can place a valuation on a company without paying them a visit. Accounts alone are only as good as the paper they are written on. Cynic quite rightly has warned many times of the risks of investing in China based companies and I know from personal experience that before lending/investing you must base your decision on a trustworthy independent opinion... and in this context I dont mean Goldman Suchs.

cynic - 27 Mar 2008 15:58 - 2306 of 3050

i can't even read a set of accounts properly ..... my experience of chinese companies is primarily based on experience and observation in my own industry, and the mugs the "wily orientals" have made time and again of "sucker gweilos" when they back their companies.

ptholden - 27 Mar 2008 15:59 - 2307 of 3050

halifax, in this particular instance one can only value what is in the public domain (unless you want a trip over to China). I came up with some figures and left it at that and yes good money can be made both ways with this company, it's rather volatile to say the least!!

cynic - 27 Mar 2008 16:04 - 2308 of 3050

not sure if i dare short at this level ..... much says that it is a good bet, though interesting to see strong recovery oin First Solar (US stock) today, but there is always a danger in trying to beat the trend, even if that has really only been in place here for 24 hours or so

ateeq180 - 27 Mar 2008 16:23 - 2309 of 3050

buying still continues,so it will be interesting if the profit taking comes first or it carrys on from todays action tomorrow.

cynic - 27 Mar 2008 16:34 - 2310 of 3050

two to watch tomorrow then, for both SOLA and EO. have closed just nudging underneath 50 dma ..... this could presage either a strong challenge or more likely imo, unless Dow suddenly surges, a retreat to consolidate again.

hlyeo98 - 27 Mar 2008 17:19 - 2311 of 3050

I think SOLA is a strong BUY.

cynic - 27 Mar 2008 17:45 - 2312 of 3050

just keep a wary weather eye on Wall Street ..... it is currently looking a little sickly and may well be about to threaten to break down through 12350 for the second time today.

ptholden - 27 Mar 2008 17:50 - 2313 of 3050

Indeed Richard, watching at the moment to see if it makes a lower low for the day, possibility for another 100pt drop (DJ that is) Apologies for OT.

cynic - 27 Mar 2008 19:53 - 2314 of 3050

hyleo .... in the light of the dump on Wall Street, buying SOLA tomorrow could be rash indeed

HARRYCAT - 27 Mar 2008 22:08 - 2315 of 3050

Also may be a friday sell off, so worth watching, imo.
If SOLA dips to anywhere near the 240 mark, then possibly worth buying in antipation of another bounce to 300p.

Toya - 28 Mar 2008 07:43 - 2316 of 3050

This little snippet from today's Times:

"Renesola, the Chinese solar wafer maker, soared 45p to 288p in strong volume, sparking bid talk. Management have been talking up prospects to US investors after strong results last week."

Probably not a good short right now?
