THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

cynic - 11 Apr 2013 12:24 - 23472 of 81564

mind you, that only cost me £90 pa when i joined - so-called graduate - and full m'ship was £350

goldfinger - 11 Apr 2013 12:28 - 23473 of 81564

You still a full member then?........ where, Im on 9 now but was par years back.

cynic - 11 Apr 2013 12:31 - 23474 of 81564

yes - though technically i could retire, i enjoy my work too much + the travel perks on the biz .... the salary's still good too!!

goldfinger - 11 Apr 2013 12:37 - 23475 of 81564

Work... you told me you were retired.

Anyway I dont give a toss its nice to speak to you again.

Do you think Maggies funeral should be footed by tax payers?

Fred1new - 11 Apr 2013 12:46 - 23476 of 81564

3m,

"Fred did you know that one never begins a sentence with an "AND".

"Grow up" and stop trying to act "smart" and appearing to be tory pack animal.

1) I was C+P from another web site
2) I was using italics and inverted commas to signify that I was doing so.
3) Although "And" is rarely used, it is used in literature, although the use is infrequent.

And "grow up" is not to be taken too literally.

Try and have a better day.
----

I think I had better check my blood sugar.

goldfinger - 11 Apr 2013 12:47 - 23477 of 81564

Love golf rugby union and cricket. Bloody good footy player aswel. Was semi pro for Huddersfield.

Most of all though loved the boxing. Was a champ at 9.

North of england champ at 19 at heavy weight.

Loved it. Miss them days.

cynic - 11 Apr 2013 12:48 - 23478 of 81564

no i didn't ..... i may have told you i had winter fuel allowance + state pension, but have never thought of actually retiring, though i guess i now work slightly less hard that of yore

cassius clay enjoyed boxing too - fear your brain has also gone somewhat down that route! ..... yes i know that was in the best possible taste! ..... what a truly wonderful fighter to watch

MT's funeral
silly and provocative Q!
as i wrote earlier this morning ...... i confess i have some reservations about MT being afforded a quasi state funeral, but that is solely because it sets a precedent
it was parliament (under the last labour regime as it happens) that set the format for this funeral
that that ultimately means that the taxpayer pays for it is therefore somewhat academic - and silly, as i said!

goldfinger - 11 Apr 2013 12:52 - 23479 of 81564

Fred freindly piece of advise.......

can you please try and lump your characters posts nearer together. Its hard work looking at your posts at the minute and Im sure like others they dont want to miss.

goldfinger - 11 Apr 2013 13:01 - 23480 of 81564

he he, yes Mohammed Ali surely the most and biggest celebrity on earth. What an icon.

Brilliant genious.

The only person George Best comes second to.

3 monkies - 11 Apr 2013 13:12 - 23481 of 81564

Fred I don't mind taking a learning curb if you promise to vote - which party you choose I don't care, at least it would give you the right to prattle on. However too old to grow now as nearly 65 yrs. I do also get my state pension plus heating allowance for now!!!! Enjoy the rest of your day and please check the sugar levels. I am sure you are a very nice person as probably all on here are.

Haystack - 11 Apr 2013 13:23 - 23482 of 81564

Mohammed Al was a gullible idiot who was conned into becoming the mouthpiece of the Black Muslims. He was certainly amusing and a brilliant boxer. A genius, he certainly was not.

Fred1new - 11 Apr 2013 13:30 - 23483 of 81564

Cynic,

You posted earlier that you tried to play rugby in your distant youth.

Did you read "This Sporting Life" with the end of the novel dealing with the decay of the "hero"?

Any resemblances?

---------------

By the way can you imagine the controversy, if Blair dies when labour are in "power" and want a state funeral with big brass bands and fireworks. Of course costing the state twice as much for his disposal as Maggie.

--------------

Ps.

I wonder if he is developing Parkinson’s.

Fred1new - 11 Apr 2013 13:42 - 23484 of 81564

I am glad Lord Archer and his fragrant wife will be attending the funeral.

Seems fitting somehow, or other!

Haystack - 11 Apr 2013 13:46 - 23485 of 81564

There might be more people hating Blair than Thatcher.

cynic - 11 Apr 2013 14:09 - 23486 of 81564

i recollect "sporting life" as an old b/w film on rugby league with a then luscious rachel roberts and subsequent old reprobate richard harris

3 monkies - 11 Apr 2013 14:17 - 23487 of 81564

Can anybody help me - I am trying to re tune my TV and do not know what to do. I would seriously appreciate somebodys help.

Fred1new - 11 Apr 2013 14:23 - 23488 of 81564

Hays,

That may be right, if it is possible?

-----------

At the time of publishing of that book I was considering chucking university and "going north".

I think my mother who had on many previous occasions had burnt my rugby kits would have done so again.

My brother gave me the book and it had his expected effect on me.

Another of my lucky escapes.

cynic - 11 Apr 2013 14:25 - 23489 of 81564

3m - probably quite easy, even for an old fart like you (and me!) ..... is it your sky box that effectively says you need to re-tune? ...... if so, i think i can tell you ...... if just a standard tv, it is again simple - but i haven't a clue :-)

3 monkies - 11 Apr 2013 14:28 - 23490 of 81564

I don't have sky cynic as an old fart I prefer the radio - not feeling good so want to lay down and watch tv but things altered yesterday and I have not got a clue what to do. Thanks for your response.
