Nice drop! I guess the SPX didn't like Thursday's high after all. Moving stop to just below entry (trying to resist the temptation of taking the 20 points)

Moving stop down to lock in 20 points whilst the Dow continues to coil.

No Need to Bet the Farm Ackerman
The Dow on Monday inched still closer to the 9807 target that has kept us on the right side of the stock market since mid-June. In the four trying months that have passed since I made that prediction, not a week has gone by that did not bring me at least one or two notes of credible dissent from technically astute correspondents. This week?s reality check, forwarded by a Colorado subscriber, comes in the form of Tim Wood?s latest Cycle News and Views.
Tim has supplied a jim-dandy compendium of quotes from bankers and politicians who in retrospect proved to have been a tad too optimistic in their pronouncements about the U.S. economy in the weeks and months following the 1929 Crash. But what catches the eye in his latest missive is a chart of the Dow going back to April 2002. Most striking is the way in which an overlay of NYSE advancing volume matches the Dow?s steep rally trajectory during the period March through June. But thereafter the volume of NYSE advances begins to fall steeply, then to flatten out, even as the DJIA has continued haltingly higher toward 10,000.
This divergence between higher price tops and declining volume peaks is bearish, suggesting that the underpinnings of the current rally are not very solid. It also lends technical weight to the possibility of an imminent price break in the averages. Against this evidence I weigh a robustly bullish outlook for two unquestionable bellwethers, Citi and IBM, that suggests the broad averages could continue to rise for at least the next 2-3 months. We don?t have to bet the farm on either scenario, but it surely behooves us to treat the nearly achieved 9807 Dow target as a potentially important one.

The Dow also hit 9783.49 - a tad shy of the 9790.84 fib level on this chart. One other clue could be the 1.382 Fib level on the Fib circle. Definitely one to watch.
I took a tentative short out this evening at 9667 but covered for 29 points. I'm looking for short entries as these levels approach.

One word of warning..as many of us have been there.
It is easy to get over confident when you are having a good run. You start to move stops, increase your stake, think you can go against the trend. Before long you can see all your hard work undone in a couple of days of madness. If you follow the USA thread on the Traders room most of us had a really bad time a few months back following a couple of very good weeks. In fact a couple of people got wiped out or almost wiped out.
I hope you continue trading successfully, the market is always there and there is no pressure to try to beat it every single day.
Regards
Jeff

Jeffmack:
point taken. I am not trying to beat it but was just creaming the harvest while i could. I nearly lost 3000 just a few weeks ago and by re-evaluating my stop losses etc managed to hang in there by the skin of my teeth.
How do you think the market is going to behave today???
Profit taking and some sell-offs - i hope.
