How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

is it just me or is the racing proving difficult this afternoon - havent had any losses but struggling to get more than 1 or 2 ticks each race

Fundamentalist - 22 Apr 2005 17:05 - 2381 of 10502

Do you think pipe is serious about winning the championship - 2 of the races at newton abbott tonight he has 6 entries in

Harlosh - 22 Apr 2005 17:21 - 2382 of 10502

Having to decorate one of my rental properties so not done much trading for several days, atleast until later in the day. Finding it very difficult. Glad it's not just me Fundy.

John

its a hard life lol

as of next week im back working on the house mornings again so i know how you feel

on a loser on joacci at newton abbott - who took out one side of the order book? scrip was that you lol

Fundamentalist - 22 Apr 2005 17:38 - 2384 of 10502

joacci well beaten very early :-))))

Scripophilist - 22 Apr 2005 17:39 - 2385 of 10502

I've done OK today no losers but just small steady gains. I found yesterday hard going though.

Fundamentalist - 22 Apr 2005 17:44 - 2386 of 10502

Scrip

sounds familiar - last race was my first potential loss and it got well beat. yesterday i did quite well until the unlucky last

Scripophilist - 22 Apr 2005 17:46 - 2387 of 10502

I've tried to find a pattern to whether it could be a good or bad day but I'll be damned if I can find one. So I just treat it as it comes and try not to get too depressed if things don't happen because tomorrow will be a different day for sure.

Harlosh - 23 Apr 2005 15:17 - 2388 of 10502

Looks like your 50k is safe Scrip.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 15:46 - 2389 of 10502

Its been safe for a long while john lol

how you doing, are you trading this pm - just started, spent the morning breaking concrete - nothing appeals on the football as it stands, may try to trade the evening games - going to concentrate on the horses for the next few hours

Harlosh - 23 Apr 2005 16:11 - 2390 of 10502

Hi Steve, been doing a bit on the races and a couple of small bets on the footy. Not much luck so far.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 16:21 - 2391 of 10502

Footie looked difficult to me today - im tending not to trade the premiership much because the form book goes out of the window a bit at this time of the season with different clubs having different priorities

doing ok on the horses, thanks to Aleron getting beat, got caught out on a withdrawal again

Harlosh - 23 Apr 2005 16:40 - 2392 of 10502

That's why I'm only small stakes on the footy. Palace beating Liverpool is a prime example.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 16:51 - 2393 of 10502

Last winner at leicester went in at 80-1, someone on betfair got 290 before the off - i bet he has a good night out

Harlosh - 23 Apr 2005 16:54 - 2394 of 10502

Backed Norwich for a bit of fun. Thought I'd lost it till the 88th minute.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 16:55 - 2395 of 10502

Strange isnt it john, that was the one bet i considered with about 15 mins to go, told myself not to be stupid and went back to the horses lol

well done mate

Harlosh - 23 Apr 2005 17:02 - 2396 of 10502

You did the right thing with only 15 mins to go but it p*sses you off when it works out.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 17:46 - 2397 of 10502

It was only a hunch on the basis that theyve scored a lot of late goals recently and seem to be on a bit of a roll. With them and Palace both winning becomes a huge game for Scrip and his saints in the derby with Pompey tomorrow.

Horses seem to be getting better as the day goes on

Scripophilist - 23 Apr 2005 18:33 - 2398 of 10502

Saints won't win at Pompey tomorrow. Confidence is gone by the look of it. Especially with the way the other results are going. It's funny isn't it. These lower ranking teams can't win for love nor money then five games from the end of the season they can beat anybody. If I wasn't full of cold logic then I'd feel like it was a conspiracy. Can Liverpool really be one of the best four teams in Europe when they lost to Palace?

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 19:06 - 2399 of 10502

Scrip

i think the fact that they are in the last 4 is why they lost today - players minds already ont eh next game?

saints game could go anyway tomorrow - both sides are poor currently and a local derby - not a game i will be trading - i would make it 2.98/2.98/2.98 if i was making a book!!!
