How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Strange isnt it john, that was the one bet i considered with about 15 mins to go, told myself not to be stupid and went back to the horses lol

well done mate

Harlosh - 23 Apr 2005 17:02 - 2396 of 10502

You did the right thing with only 15 mins to go but it p*sses you off when it works out.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 17:46 - 2397 of 10502

It was only a hunch on the basis that theyve scored a lot of late goals recently and seem to be on a bit of a roll. With them and Palace both winning becomes a huge game for Scrip and his saints in the derby with Pompey tomorrow.

Horses seem to be getting better as the day goes on

Scripophilist - 23 Apr 2005 18:33 - 2398 of 10502

Saints won't win at Pompey tomorrow. Confidence is gone by the look of it. Especially with the way the other results are going. It's funny isn't it. These lower ranking teams can't win for love nor money then five games from the end of the season they can beat anybody. If I wasn't full of cold logic then I'd feel like it was a conspiracy. Can Liverpool really be one of the best four teams in Europe when they lost to Palace?

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 19:06 - 2399 of 10502

Scrip

i think the fact that they are in the last 4 is why they lost today - players minds already ont eh next game?

saints game could go anyway tomorrow - both sides are poor currently and a local derby - not a game i will be trading - i would make it 2.98/2.98/2.98 if i was making a book!!!

Scripophilist - 23 Apr 2005 21:04 - 2400 of 10502

Probably the best bet would be the bookings market.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:08 - 2401 of 10502

Probably right scrip

shaky first 5 mins for Madrid

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:18 - 2402 of 10502

all villareal after 15 mins - hard to see them scoring with Diego Forlan up front though lol

Scripophilist - 23 Apr 2005 21:24 - 2403 of 10502

Just nosed at the relegation market, Its remarkable, 1.33, 1.33, 1.43, 1.48 I think its the tighest priced market of that nature I have ever seen.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:32 - 2404 of 10502

remaining fixtures:

24 April 2005
Portsmouth v Southampton, 12:00

26 April 2005
West Brom v Blackburn, 19:45

30 April 2005
Newcastle v Crystal Palace, 15:00
Southampton v Norwich, 15:00

02 May 2005
West Brom v Arsenal, 20:00

07 May 2005
Crystal Palace v Southampton, 15:00
Man Utd v West Brom, 15:00
Norwich v Birmingham, 15:00

15 May 2005
Charlton v Crystal Palace, 15:00
Fulham v Norwich, 15:00
Southampton v Man Utd, 15:00
West Brom v Portsmouth, 15:00

That says to me that to a point its in southamptons hands as they play 2 of the other strugglers. Id have to say norwich have the best current form and probably the easiest remaining fixtures (not unfeasible for them to win all 3). If i was having a bet id lay norwich

ps madrid still looking ordinary

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:34 - 2405 of 10502

beckham missed a sitter

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:40 - 2406 of 10502

penalty to villareal after forlan takes a dive

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:41 - 2407 of 10502

1-0 down, may have a small bet on madrid when the market settles

Scripophilist - 23 Apr 2005 21:46 - 2408 of 10502

I was following some of the money with some of the guys on the BF forum. Somebody was backing the draw with 100k @ 3.15 and then switched to lay Madrid. His number just came in.

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 21:56 - 2409 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 22:16 - 2410 of 10502

Scrip

first time ive read an in p[lay forum like that - a few of em get a bit emotional lol.

still on the sidelines, tempted to back madrid but the price seems too skinny to me 4.1 at 1-0 with 33 mins to go

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 22:18 - 2411 of 10502

how have villareal not scored there

Fundamentalist - 23 Apr 2005 22:34 - 2412 of 10502

Madrid down to 10 men but 2-1 up - p***ed off i greened up when they equalised lol

Scripophilist - 23 Apr 2005 23:02 - 2413 of 10502

Rather bizzarly this big hitter switched to the overs market. I'm sitting here thinking WTF!

Scripophilist - 24 Apr 2005 12:07 - 2414 of 10502
