Stanelco Welcomes Media Debate on Plastics and the Environment

Stanelco plc, the only bioplastics manufacturer headquartered in the UK, welcomes the current debate on the effect of plastic products and particularly bags on the environment.

Stanelco is one of Europe's leading players in the bioplastics market and has a heritage of over 15 years of research and development in this area. Headquartered in Southampton where it has its research base, Stanelco makes and develops the basic bio polymers that can be used to make products including bags, packaging and garden products out of materials that are sustainable and that quickly return to the natural ecosystem at the end of their useful life.

Stanelco's bio materials are all biodegradable, made from predominantly sustainable base materials like potato starch, and will therefore degrade more rapidly than oil-based polymers in the natural environment. Stanelco's materials start to break down in a matter of weeks, significantly reducing the threat of animals and marine life being trapped, injured or killed. The materials fully break down in months allowing the breakdown products to put nutrients back into the ground to provide for the next cycle of crops. Furthermore, the inks used for printing on the bags purchased by our customers can at their instruction be water based, reducing the impact of solvent based inks on the environment.

Stanelco's commercial and development activities take place in the UK, with manufacture provided by Biotec, its German subsidiary jointly owned with Sphere S.A. Stanelco recently invested in further capacity at the German production factory, enabling it to have the capacity of producing annually the bioplastics that could replace some 2.9 billion conventional plastic bags. That equates to approximately one per week for every man, woman and child in the UK.

Paul Mines, Chief Executive of Stanelco said:

'We welcome the press interest in this subject; Stanelco is well placed to supply the materials required to make plastic products that use sustainable resources and minimise man's impact on the environment. Adoption of our green technology is growing rapidly and customer interest is high; and we are working with our partners and customers to deliver this as rapidly as possible'.

A brief description to SEO's products:

GREENSEAL
Stanelco has applied its RF sealing platform technology to the welding of recyclable plastic 'mono materials' for tray-lidding and thermoforming,
specifically in the food packaging area. This process offers substantial financial benefits to food pack houses, supermarkets and an improved end product for consumers.
The process replaces heat-sealing as the method for sealing plastic film lids on to plastic trays for food packaging, especially where modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) is employed. MAP is used to extend the life of the product and so requires high integrity hermetic sealing. The current process of heat sealing has numerous drawbacks. It requires a laminated layer of polyethylene (PE) to act as a sealing layer. It is usually unable to reliably seal through contamination and it is energy inefficient. By using Stanelco's sealing technology it is possible to offer enormous savings to both packagers and supermarkets alike:

CRADLEWRAP.
CradleWrap. is a new range of biodegradable air cushion packaging. The first product, CradleWrap. Heavy Duty is a wrapping material containing air bubbles designed to absorb high impact. It is currently going through its final stages of testing ready for manufacture on a pilot production line which we have installed. The material has already been demonstrated to hold its air bubbles for longer and to provide impact resistance greater than ten times that of competing products. Given these properties we also expect CradleWrap. to replace polyurethane foam for some applications.

FROGPACK.
Frog Pack. is a box designed to replace traditional packaging used for transporting delicate and or valuable items that are vulnerable to damage in transit due to crushing or shock, such as electronics, car parts, glass items, compact discs, flowers, foodstuffs, medicines and medical devices. Its unique design incorporates the unique SAAP (shock absorbing arcuate panels) technology developed by Aquasol. The registered design ensures that the optimum energy is absorbed and dissipated through the package and not the product, no matter which face of the pack receives the impact. At the time of writing, Stanelco has appointed its first two distributors.

STARPOL.
Starpol. is a range of materials that utilises a technology that enables starch and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to be combined in any proportion to form a homogenous material. Our subsidiary Adept Polymers developed these materials to both lower the cost of water-soluble and biodegradable materials and to produce materials with improved properties over those currently available. We intend to incorporate these materials in several of our new applications such as CradleWrap..
Starpol 2000TM is available in a range of blends that can be formed into sheet
material for products such as short shelf-life food trays, modified atmosphere
packaging (MAP) trays and blown films for a diverse range of products including
carrier bags, compost bags, waste bags and agricultural films
Patents in regard to key aspects of this technology have also been applied for.

SOLUTAPE.
Following the acquisition of Aquasol the Group was able to accelerate development of a 100 per cent. water-soluble adhesive. This now gives rise to a new range of applications such as labels, tapes and films coated with the new adhesive formulation. Work is progressing with initial applications and we expect this to move to volume production during 2005.

BIODEGRADABLE AIRBAG PACKAGING
SEO are currently exploiting low cost Starpol. Biodegradable materials to develop a range of air pillows used as packaging to fill voids. We are working closely with an internationally recognised air pillow manufacturer with a view to partnering with them to commercialise this technology.

FOOD CONTAINERS
SEO announced during the year that we were working on biodegradable food containers, made predominantly from starch materials. Work on the first product is now reaching an advanced stage and if successful we hope to license it during the year.

BIODEGRADABLE CORK fOR WINE BOTTLES
Biotec is one of the world's leading exponents of starch technology. It also has ranges of products that are ready for commercialisation within the food and beverage industries. we have now patented a biodegradable cork for wine bottles and discussions are currently underway with new and existing partners to realise revenue from this development.

TRADITIONAL RF BUSINESS
Sales of consumable items for furnaces have begun to pick up. We continue to make sales of mobile RF welding units for sealing industrial plastic bags. These units are three times more energy efficient than the heat-sealing units they are designed to replace and give a high integrity seal. Applications include the sealing of waste bags for transit. We have now outsourced all manufacture of RF furnaces and mobile welders whilst retaining control of the intellectual property.

HARD SHELL WATER SOLUBLE CAPSULES
We are working with Carclo plc to develop hard shell water soluble capsules for drug delivery. We are concentrating on increasing the starch content of the capsules to allow us both to reduce cost and, more importantly, to facilitate the process of regulatory approval. This technology is in the process of being presented to a number of drug development companies. We are anticipating that the involvement of Biotec in this venture will significantly reduce development timescales and increase the likelihood of success.

AUTOMATIC DISHWASHER DETERGENT CAPSULES
We have also been working with Reckitt Benckiser to help develop their Electrasol(R) 2 in 1 Gelpacs(R)(a) automatic dishwasher detergent capsules. These are now available and selling well in North America. Stanelco receives a royalty for each capsule sold.

PETAL PACK
Unusually shaped, high-impact resistant containers designed expressly for growers and florists to eliminate damage while shipping fragile floral goods, is the newest packaging innovation being introduced by Stanelco, Inc., whose FrogPack packaging technology recently debuted in the United States.
Petal Pack containers are able to withstand punishment well beyond the strength of containers now being used to ship flowers. The Petal Pack containers are distinguished by a patented double-arch design that provides energy absorption characteristics vastly exceeding the durability of commercial floral shipping containers currently in use.

PulsLine
The latest intelligent, anti-counterfeit label on the market. Designed to protect against fraud and product tampering, PulsLine is currently available in the United States and United Kingdom, and is used to safeguard products in the food, information technology, airline, pharmaceutical and automotive industries as well as many others.

Starpol Wrap
Which is an ideal product to replace waxed paper for burger wrap
and other deli counter applications.
This material's properties do not allow oil or moisture to pass through it, whilst permitting moisture vapour to permeate out. It can be used for hot, fast foods like burgers as it stops condensation occurring that can adversely affect food quality. Unlike waxed paper, it is a fully biodegradable material with obvious environmental benefits and can compete on a cost neutral basis with such materials. Wrap 100 is significantly lighter than existing packing, which presents potential cost savings and in addition will provide customers with reduced transport costs and landfill taxes.

Laundry Bags
Depart Laundry Bags are water soluble, cost effective, and a fully biodegradable solution that will revolutionise your standard laundry bags.
http://www.stanelco.co.uk/documents/UK_Laundry_v01.pdf

FrogMat
FrogMat is an environmentally responsible and highly effective cushion for packaging delicate and fragile products. It is an innovative use of a well-known and effective packaging medium but presented in a form which is clean, tidy and easy to use, and with extra properties. The filling is corrugated lattice which is contained in a biodegradable film envelope.
http://www.stanelco.co.uk/documents/UK_FrogMat_v01.pdf

Water Soluble Embroidery Film
Depart Water Soluble Embroidery Film is an environmentally friendly, fully biodegradable, water soluble product that will revolutionise your standard embroidery films. Depart embroidery film is suitable as a backing fabric to stabilise fabrics whilst embroidering and good enough for embroidering a heavy pile fabric like velvet or fleece. After embroidering Depart embroidery film can be dissolved simply by putting into contact with water or steam.

3) RF GREENSEAL (BUSINESS WIRE)NEW UPDATE

STANELCO'S GREENSEAL PACKAGING TECHNOLOGY POISED TO REVOLUTIONIZE FOOD PACKAGING WORLDWIDE

Grocers and retailers accustomed to selling meat, vegetables and other perishable foods in familiar thermal heat-sealed packaging can now turn to an entirely new packaging technology that employs radio frequency to create the tightest, most efficient seal available in packaging anywhere in the world.

GREENSEAL, a revolutionary new packaging application that uses radio frequency (RF) technology, is already capturing the attention of retailers and grocers in the United Kingdom and North America. Created by Stanelco PLC (LSE:SEO.L), GREENSEAL has the potential to revolutionize how consumable products are packaged and sold in markets worldwide.

"We are thrilled at the quality and integrity of the RF weld on mono-plastics," explained Stanelco spokesperson and newly appointed Director of U.S. Operations Stephanie Morgan-Fisher.

"The seal integrity possesses less than a one-tenth of one percent leakage factor. Its return-to-manufacturer (RTM) rate is also less than one-tenth of one percent annually, realizing a savings of millions of dollars for retailers," said Morgan-Fisher.

Applied to the case-ready food industry, the implications for GREENSEAL are enormous. The sealing application can totally redefine how grocers package and present food to shoppers, while reducing the amount of faulty packages significantly.

Stanelco has recently signed an exclusive agreement in the United Kingdom with ASDA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart. This agreement will facilitate the retrofit of 200 ASDA supplier heat-sealing machines to Stanelco's GREENSEAL technology.

Recent trials with ASDA's seafood supplier Young's Bluecrest exceeded expectations. Over a two-week trial period of the product packed and sold in the selected ASDA stores, sales grew by 21%. Stanelco has been informed by ASDA that this increase is as a direct result of a number of factors directly attributable to GREENSEAL technology. Key amongst these is a more attractive looking pack than the current product. In addition, there were no reported leaking packs, and waste at store level was reduced significantly.

To facilitate the retrofitting process in North America, Stanelco is working with Premier Technology, Pocatello, Idaho, whose engineers have trained in retrofit operations at Stanelco's new facility in Southampton, England. A team of Premier Technology engineers has already completed training and familiarization with the methodologies necessary to convert complex thermal heat-sealing packaging machinery to GREENSEAL RF sealing technology and are prepared to ramp up operations in the United States.

While vastly improved seal integrity is the top benefit offered by GREENSEAL, cost savings and environmental compatibility are two other important features that will attract grocers and retailers to GREENSEAL.

Pressured to increase revenues and profits, despite upwardly spiraling operating costs, retailers can reduce the cost of packaging materials by 20 percent using GREENSEAL. The application replaces laminated plastics with less expensive mono plastics, which can be easily recycled. Energy costs required to produce the tray lids and thermoformed packages can be reduced by nearly 70 percent annually by utilizing GREENSEAL.

Stanelco is already moving ahead to market GREENSEAL to leading U.S. grocers and retailers, including Wal-Mart, Albertson's, Midwestern retailing giant Kroger's, California-based Von's, Ralph's and Safeway, and others. Stanelco has opened a North American office in Orlando, Fla., to coordinate international sales and implementation efforts for Stanelco

4) FrogPack: (BUSINESS WIRE)

Stanelco PLC, (LSE:SEO.L), is utilizing FrogPack, a rugged, high-impact resistant packaging application to take a giant leap across the Atlantic and reach retailers and shippers in North America. Designed to withstand substantial punishment, FrogPack is expected to attract considerable attention from leading U.S. retailers, who face the challenge of minimizing breakage to goods while packaging shipping and transporting highly fragile merchandise.
FrogPack's most distinguishing characteristic is its ability to
minimize and virtually eliminate damage to fragile goods being shipped to wholesalers and retailers or directly to consumers. FrogPack's energy-absorbing design, combined with Cradlewrap(TM), a biodegradable air-cushioning wrapping material that can be used within the containers, provides remarkably secure protection for goods that require shipping. Tests undertaken to challenge FrogPack's sturdiness have confirmed that highly fragile items, ranging from glass champagne bottles to sensitive electronic components, dropped from a helicopter from as high as 200 feet in the air suffered no damage or signs of their fall.
"FrogPack can take a hard punch. Retailers will be impressed when
they see how much punishment FrogPack absorbs. The packaging is a
superior alternative for protecting goods during shipping," said David Edwards, the inventor of FrogPack. "FrogPack's capability to protect, combined with its potential for reducing costs in packaging and shipping, is unlike anything currently in use in North America."
FrogPack utilizes a unique technology called shock-absorbing arcuate panel technology (SAAP) for its added strength and protective
qualifies. The technology, designed by Aquasol, a subsidiary of
Stanelco, is already in use in the United Kingdom by a packager of
lighting supplies and a packager of electronic components.
In addition to its ability to withstand high-impact punishment,
FrogPack possesses environmentally attractive features that will be
attractive to North American retailers. FrogPack can be either
recycled or composted. FrogPack's high-impact design means that the
packaging, which can be manufactured on a customized basis, can be
produced in smaller sizes, requiring less material and less energy in
the actual production process.
"Eventually, we believe that FrogPack will replace padded
envelopes and boxes that utilize polystyrene inserts and plastic air
bubbles," said FrogPack's Edwards.
To acquaint North American retailers with FrogPack and attract
American distributors for the application, Stanelco is launching a
multi-faceted North American marketing program. Stanelco's North
American rollout for FrogPack includes a direct sales effort,
supplemented by direct mail, an aggressive publicity program,
demonstrations of FrogPack's durability and a presence at leading U.S. retail trade shows. Stanelco has opened a North American sales office in Orlando, Fla., and appointed Stephanie Morgan-Fisher to oversee the introduction of FrogPack.
Stanelco PLC, headquartered in Southampton, England, was founded
in 1953. Stanelco is engaged in the commercialization of new applications, innovations, products and processes based on radio
frequency (RF) technologies. These products and services range from RF technology support for the health care industry to new product
development, such as FrogPack, sealed water-soluble polymer Materials, homecare applications, detergents and agrochemicals. More information: http://www.Stanelco.co.uk or http://www.FrogPack.com.

Stanelco (SEO) 28.50p

Wal-Mart speculation - Market valuation

Since we initiated coverage of Stanelco, (SEO) at 5p on November 7, 2003. Due to the collaboration with Aquasol - A partnership that would enable detergent capsule manufacturers to become low-cost producers of detergent capsules for laundry and home care applications, whilst at the same time improving the quality of their products and speed of manufacture, also enable SEO to accelerate development plans for RF technology. The excitement
surrounding SEO now is due to SEO`s revolutionary GREENSEAL tray-lidding technology and the successful trials with ASDA. We now have unconfirmed BB gossip, which suggests Wal-Mart will soon follow ASDA. We know Wal-Mart have been watching ASDA`s lead.

Let us look at some facts
Though I have not seen a pack in the market place, there is little doubt that the ASDA trials have been successful. Had there been leakage, or some kind of adverse symptom, it would have been all over these pages. For the same reason, we must be looking at something like the promised 20% saving in packaging material cost and a lot higher saving in energy - Howard White is
quoting 75% and explains that the system seals at only 50 C degrees.

Looking at the whole of SEO 2004 losses as overhead on the current business, the accounts suggest a current maximum running at the rate of 3m /pa, possibly much lower. The current capitalisation of around 250m for a technology of such influence on the global economy is probably justified in our opinion by a PE of 30 and thus by a profit after tax of 8m. The asking rate for royalty of 35,000/pa is likely to reduce to 25,000 for ASDA type bulk contracts and
thus needs 320 machines to justify the 8m.

We have also heard that the hardware for retrofitting just about 'washes its face at ,000 per installation' - but targets and hopefully leaves a one off profit of 5,000 - which should cover 50 -75% of the previous overheads and operating losses So the ASDA deal roughly sustains the current share price on its own. So whether Wal-mart makes an announcement or not, the price
reflects no more than the existing ASDA requirement. You get Frog Pack, Cradlewrap Aquasol,Adept Polymers and Starpol, Solutape,.... and Wal-mart for nothing. Not to mention that the market everyone is referring to is just Europe and N America. The world's second largest market lies in Japan - not yet mentioned nor is any of the packaging requirement in Taiwan, S.Korea, Australia N/Z, S.Africa, Brazil, etc etc..........None of these are yet factored in - probably because it is unrealistic to expect their requirements to be capable of being addressed for at least 2/3 years whilst SEO attain their stated objective to fit 27,000 machines and much less than
half of the global market by then.

Stanelco Signs First Commercial Agreement for GREENSEAL Technology with ASDA Supplier in United Kingdom

SOUTHAMPTON, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2005--Radio frequency applications group Stanelco PLC (LSE:SEO.L) has confirmed that the company has entered its first formal commercial agreement to convert packaging machinery using traditional methodology to a unique Stanelco packaging application that uses radio frequency (RF) technology to seal packages. The agreement is with a packaging supplier to British value retailer ASDA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart that operates 265 stores in the United Kingdom.

The agreement involves the conversion of a Mondini tray-lidding machine belonging to an ASDA supplier to Stanelco's GREENSEAL(TM), a revolutionary new packaging application that utilizes RF to create the tightest, most efficient seal now available for packaging food and retail goods. The agreement was concluded after extensive trials confirmed the capability of Stanelco's RF packaging technology. Trials are continuing with other selected ASDA suppliers.

Stephanie Morgan-Fisher, Director of Stanelco's North American Operations said, "The UK conversion marks the beginning of a revolution in packaging. This is the first machine of ASDA's 200-machine commitment in the United Kingdom. We are aggressively marketing this technology in North America simultaneously and expect to announce our first agreement for conversions in the United States and Canada in the near future."

The identification of the supplier was not announced for reasons of confidentiality, but Stanelco CEO Ian Balchin indicated the size of the supplier and the longevity of their relationship as a provider of packaging services with ASDA was "substantial."

Stanelco's RF packaging technology will provide a number of benefits for both ASDA and the consumer, including:

-- Increased sales

-- Reduced waste

-- Longer shelf life

-- Cost reductions on packaging materials

-- Energy and labor savings

-- Extensive environmental benefits

"This announcement takes Stanelco to the next stage of maturity as a business as our technology enters full scale production. We are very excited by the success of the trials, as are both ASDA and the supplier. The commercialization of the technology is being adopted at an unusually fast pace," said Staneclo CEO Ian Balchin.

Tony Ruane, Technical Manager of the Meal Solutions division of ASDA, observed, "With food safety being increasingly high on everybody's agenda, RF presents the answers to many problems being experienced with current packaging technology. ASDA and our selected suppliers have been very excited with the possibilities that RF has to offer. The supplier has recognized the capabilities and benefits of RF tray-lidding for ASDA, themselves and more importantly, the customer."

Stanelco is already moving ahead to market its GREENSEAL packaging technology to leading U.S. grocers and retailers, including Wal-Mart. Stanelco recently opened a North American office in Orlando, Fla., to undertake international sales and implementation efforts for marketing their unique packaging applications.

9) Stanelco buys green packaging supplier

Published: 15:20 Monday 06 June 2005
By: Graeme Davies, Investment Correspondent

Radio frequency specialist Stanelco is splashing out million to buy supplier Biotec Holdings to add starch technology to its propriety packaging offering.

Biotec's technology includes thermoplastic starch, which will enable Stanelco (SEO) to use environmentally friendly starch-based materials in its packaging. Stanelco has combined radio frequency technology for use in packaging, particularly food.

The management of 225 million Stanelco must be pretty confident of the million (13.7 million) deal it has agreed. It has already paid out .23 million in a non-refundable deposit and will pay out another .27 million in cash when the acquisition is completed. A further .25 million will be payable in 12 months and a further .25 million 12 months after that. None of these are subject to performance criteria.

However Stanelco's management is still not sure exactly how it is going to pay for the deal. It is considering either arranging debt facilities or raising cash through a share placing.

Stanelco is also locking in Biotec's managing director Harald Schmidt on a three-year contract, describing him as 'one of the world's leading experts on starch polymers'.

Biotec's starch technology should complement Stanelco's business, not least because the starch-based film comes cheaper than petro-plastics based films and should allow Stanelco to offer product ranges using starch products for up to 20% less than it is currently able to offer.

Stanelco reckons using the starch technology will also add another barrier to entry for its Greenseal food packaging system, which is commencing its third and final trial with Asda this week having passed the first two with flying colours. Greenseal uses radio frequency to seal packaging. The company has already received its first commercial order from an Asda supplier, and further deals will lend credibility.

Citywire Verdict:

The agreement to buy Biotec appears to make sense for Stanelco and brings one of its key suppliers in-house, allowing it to cut down on costs once the business is fully integrated. The main imponderable is how Stanelco will pay for the deal and whether a fund raising will hamper its share price. So far, 24.55% shareholder The Age of Reason Foundation has already given the deal its backing.

Stanelco's share price has risen sharply this year, from 5.75p to as high as 28.5p as news of its trials with Asda helped investors forget last year's unseemly spat with Biofocus over a patent dispute. Its shares are off 1p to 25p on news of the deal and investors should probably wait until management decides how it will pay for the deal before considering committing fresh money.

............."The deal is a masterstroke - though still subject to formal shareholder approval, and may therefore not be taken into the share price until then.

SEO believes it to be - and so do we - " The next piece in the jigsaw that will enable Stanelco to become one of the world's leading exponents of viable,
alternative, environmentally responsible packaging methods"

Yet as so often happens, good news is used by short term traders to sell into
strength, and the shares have fallen by 4% today (see chart at end of this report) where they have been flatlining for eight trading days, moving across the centre trend into gently oversold position.

11) Stanelco PLC Acquires Biotec Group; (BUSINESS WIRE)

Stanelco PLC Acquires Biotec Group; Primed to Deliver a Revolution in Biodegradable Packaging

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 2005--Stanelco Inc. is positioned to launch Starpol 2000(TM), a completely new plasticizer-free thermoplastic material. It is completely biodegradable, possesses excellent gas barrier properties, is thermoformable, and is suitable for both food and produce trays in addition to other food packaging applications. The target price is .50 per pound and, in conjunction with Stanelco's revolutionary GREENSEAL(TM) Tray-lidding and thermoforming technology, will for the first time offer a biodegradable price-competitive solution to compete with traditional plastic materials used in the food industry.

Stanelco Inc. is the US subsidiary of the Stanelco Group (LSE:SEO), a company with its roots in using and developing radio frequency (RF) applications. Over the past two years it has been moving into environmentally sustainable packaging solutions. Its latest acquisition, subject to shareholder approval, is for Biotec Holding GMBH and subsidiaries (Biotec), Germany, from E. Khashoggi Industries LLC, California, for a total of million (U.S.) payable over a 24 month period.

Biotec is one of the world's leading exponents of starch technology. It has a considerable intellectual property portfolio, including many patents that extend to uses in packaging, pharmaceutical and edible applications. It also has ranges of products that are ready for commercialization within the food and beverage industries.

Biotec complements Stanelco's RF technology, its water-soluble and biodegradable technology at Adept Polymers and the packaging design and development skills of Aquasol, all subsidiaries of Stanelco, and gives greater access to world markets for the entire Stanelco Group. Stanelco is eager to unlock Biotec's potential in conjunction with leading supermarkets to supply mass-markets.

The starch products from Biotec are currently used by Stanelco in the following projects:

-- Starpol(TM) starch blend films used in Cradlewrap(TM) air bubble packaging

-- Food trays and pellets for food trays

-- Air cushion packaging

-- Edible packaging

-- Film for edible capsules

Natural starch is one of the lowest cost biodegradable, compostable and replenishable materials. Biotec has a unique portfolio of products including thermoplastic starch (TPS(TM)), which enables the use of environmentally responsible material in place of petro-plastics. Stanelco's RF sealing and welding technology can be used to process starch polymers without the degradation or cross-linking caused by other methods such as thermal processing, which can render the material unsuitable for food and pharmaceutical applications.

"This exciting acquisition is the next piece in the jigsaw that will enable Stanelco to become one of the world's leading exponents of economically viable, alternative, environmentally responsible packaging method solutions," said Ian Balchin, CEO of Stanelco. "It has become apparent that with the rise in oil prices, the cost of petroleum-based packaging materials is inevitably increasing faster than alternatives - making them increasingly attractive. The replenishable ingredients of Starpol 2000 ensure a stable price that will, if anything, reduce upon volume uptake. We intend to showcase this breakthrough product with all of our potential customers for GREENSEAL."

"I am also pleased to report that the second trial for GREENSEAL(TM) with Wal-Mart subsidiary ASDA has moved into the retail phase, having passed the stability (shelf-life) test with flying colors. The third and final trial is commencing this week," Balchin said. "As announced this past May 23, Stanelco has taken its first formal commercial order from a dedicated ASDA supplier, and is preparing itself for negotiations for further orders."

12) Stanelco raises 9 mln stg through placing to finance Biotech acquisition

LONDON (AFX) - Stanelco PLC said it plans to raise approximately 9 mln stg net through a placing of 44 mln new ordinary shares at a price of 21.15 pence each.
The shares have been placed by KBC Peel Hunt and the money raised will be used primarily to fund the acquisition of Biotech Holding Gmbh and subsidiaries as announced earlier this month.

14) Wall Street Reporter Interview With: Ian Balchin

Wall Street Reporter
Interview With: Ian Balchin
Stanelco - Chief Executive Officer
Dated June 16, 2005

Transcribed by Paul Masterson

Good day from Wall Street, this is Todd Santorelli, Senior Analyt with the Wall Street Reporter, and today the company and focus is Stanelco.

Stanelco trades on the London Stock Exchange, under the ticker SEO, and joining us today on the line is Ian Balchin, CEO at Stanelco.

Good afternoon Ian, thank you for joining us today at the Wall Steet Reporter.

Good afternoon Todd, thank you for giving us this opportunity.

Ian, what are the target markets and applications, for these unique RF technologies that Stanelco is developing ?

Well, Stanelco has been involved in RF technologies, and is now involved in packaging technologies as well, so most of our applications are focused on packaging, and in particular we have developed radio frequency technology that can join together or seal together heat sensitive polymers. This is a whole class of plastic materials which previously could not be sealed together without either being degraded or cross linked, which means that for many applications they have not been usefull, we have also sealed a whole class of biodegradable polymers that previously could not be sealed, now why might that be usefull, if you look at the kind of applications that we've got, Greenseal technology which is our lead application, and that's used for sealing together plastic food trays to a polymer film lid. In the US, Wal-mart would call them 'case ready meals'. What our technology enables companies to do, is to use mono-plastic, rather than a laminated plastic, so you remove a layer of plastic from the packaging which reduces it's cost by about 20%, and also enables it to be recycled. Our target markets are all about packaging using radio frequency to help seal the packagang and recently we have been aquiring companies that have got skills that compliment those of the radio frequency technology so we purchased a packaging design company and two companies involved in biodegradablee polymers. Most recently, last week we aquired Biotec Group from EKI Khashogi Industries in California, The company(biotec) is based in Germany, it's focused on starch based technologies. Now, we've gone down that route because starch based packaging is inherantly the lower cost solution than any other biodegradable packaging that we've seen.

TODD - Ok, very intigueing now, is the company on the M&A trail, will the company be looking to additional aquisitions similar to the biotec play ?

Yes, well the Biotec play enabled us to do a vertical integration, so that we gained some control over the supply of the raw material, and we know that we had a lot of competition for the aquisition of that unit, we are still looking around, and you cannot rule out any further aquisition from us in the future, if it will enable us to take our vision forward and get into the market place more quickly

TODD - On the strategic partnership and alliance side, tell us a little bit about the Advanced Energy alliance and what this means to the company moving forward ?

The Advanced Energy alliance, and we also have an alliance with Premier Technologies, relates to our greenseal technology, and we've allied with these partners in the US to enable a rapid rollout of our Greenseal technology into the US market. We have also opened a subsiduary in Florida 'Stanelco Incorporated' in order to help oversee that. Basically we have a contract with ASDA stores in the UK, and ASDA Stores is the second largest supermarket and part of the Wal-Mart family, and were looking to take the success that we've built up with ASDA, and roll that out in the US as soon as we can.

TODD - Ok, so lets talk a bit about the key drivers here and how the company is positioned, what major trends do you see affecting your core business and how is Stanelco positioned to capitalise on any of these trends ?

The major trends that we see, are trends in oil price, with increasing oil prices that leads into more expensive petro-plastics, and it means where were positioned, and we have now polyvinylalcohol and starch based polymers, those are becoming more and more competetive, were developing the lowest cost conversion technologies, were converting them into products, and the radio frequency sealing enables them to seal with a low energy requirement, so we see that as being one of the drivers. The other trend we see is where companies and our customers, want to be seen to be involved in more environmentally sustainable technologies, there are big drivers and legislation coming in on packaging and certainly in the UK, there have been a dozen or so cases where companies have been prosecuted for over-packaging their goods. The kind of packaging that were involved in is recyclable, reusable, biodegradable, and in many cases uses less material and so is therefore more efficient than those it replaces. And we see that as being alligned with a very long-term trend.

TODD - OK, now certainly there's some competition in this market, what is so unique about Stanelco, and what defines and differetiates this company from others in the industry ?

If your looking at the RF sealing technology, what we have is the ability to process heat sensitive polymers without cross-linking them or degrading them, and the alternative method that is in the marketplace is using heat sealing, and that method will degrade or cross-link the polymers making them unusable for many of the applications.

TODD - Alright Ian, lets change gear a bit here and talk a bit about the expertise in place here at Stanelco, the recent addition of Howard White and tell us a bit more about the board and Management team in place here ?

Sure, Howard White has been with the company, he's been on the board of the company longer than anyone else, about twelve years, I have been on about five years, Howard has been primarily involved in building the business and directing the Greenseal technology developments and setting up the strategic alliances that we have now with Advanced Energy and Premier Technologies, and so we have recently changed his role so that he is Managing Director of the group, and President of our US operations now that were starting to rollout in the US, in addition to the two of us, we have Robert Boardman as Finance Director and he has good city experience and has helped us raise funds for our investment, we have Elizabeth Filkin who is previously involved as Parlimentary Standards Commissioner in the UK so she is very strong on Corporate Governance, We have as a Chairman Phillip Lovegrove, he has a lifetimes experience involved in managing and investing in companies, and he is also a Director of the Ashtead Group, in addition to that we have Robert Duggan as Company Secretary, and we have two other Directors onboard, we have Terry Robins who was Packaging Innovations Manager at Sainsbury's Supermarket in the UK, and is very well known for Packaging Awards and packaging bodies, and we have Graham Whitchurch who is a polymer scientist and production engineer.

TODD - So certainly an experienced and accomplished team in place, Ian, do you feel the investment community understands this company and the direction and the potential here given the current stock price ?

Yes, I think it's taken a while, but what we've found is that when were able to set out the benefits to our customers, and the potential cost savings when we introduce the new technology the investment community has switched on to that very well, and there's a number of technologies which I haven't mentioned in this conversation yet, such as a packaging technology which lends itself to be made out of cardboard, called Frogpack. Frogpack is a very strong packaging format, and we've recently had independent tests where all kinds of articles were hurled out of a helicopter at great height including a bottle of Champagne in one of these packs, and all survived intact. Now, the design of the pack makes it stronger, but it also less cardboard material, or different material, if you make it from different materials than previous packs, and so it's inherantly very strong

TODD - Ok Ian, very briefly in closing, let's recap a bit here, why should investors consider Stanelco as a long-term investment opportunity ?

Well, I would say, if your looking at Stanelco for investment, we have a wealth of packaging technologies, in the US you might be familiar with Electrosol the Reckitt Benkisser products for dishwashers, Stanelco has the technology behind that to develop that packaging format, in conjunction with Rekitt Benkisser for that market, and we get a royalty stream from it, so as Reckitt Benkisser's products grow so does our royalty stream. We have a number of materials as well as processing technologies which mean we can offer turnkey packaging solutions to our customers, we have a very high degree of patenting and layers of patents, which means that were very protected, and the technology is very protected. And we see all that technology, and by all means visit our website at stanelcoplc.com to get some background on it, we see that as a platform for moving forward. Not only are we going to have the Greenseal Technology for sealing the case-ready food, but were going to have a starch based material from which those food trays can be made, the starch comes from crops which are sustainable rather than from oil that has to be pumped from the ground

TODD - Well that is certainly a compelling story, and a very interesting investment opportunity, Ian it was a pleasure speaking with you today, thank you for joining us at the Wall Street Reporter.

My pleasure, thank you.

ORLANDO -- Stephanie Morgan-Fisher is out to seal the deal for a British firm's North American aspirations.

Morgan-Fisher, a 36-year-old local public relations specialist, was recently tapped by intellectual property company Stanelco Plc. (LSE: SEO.L) to be in charge of operations on this side of the Atlantic for its proprietary packaging solutions.
As such, Morgan-Fisher has established an office at the Orlando public relations firm YPB&R's Keller Road building and is in the process of hiring two full-time salespeople to market Stanelco's environmentally friendly Greenseal and FrogPack products. She is also looking for distributors and manufacturers to handle those aspects of business in the United States.
"Coming here is a natural progression for the company because we're at the point of commercialization," says Morgan-Fisher, who ran her own public relations and marketing firm, SMI (Stevie Morgan Inc.), for five years until joining Stanelco about 18 months ago.
Targets: Retailers, shippers
Morgan-Fisher is hoping to entice major U.S. and Canadian retailers, including Wal-Mart to sign on, as well as lure companies in the pharmaceutical and consumer goods markets.

The other product Morgan-Fisher is trying to advance is FrogPack, which is a high-impact resistant packaging product usable for shipping all sorts of goods. The recyclable, corrugated product arrives in flat stock and then is folded into a unique shape that has concave sides, but is horizontal at the ends.
Combined with a biodegradable, "air pillow" wrapping material called Cradlewrap, the company says that fragile items packed in FrogPack can withstand being dropped from a height of up to 200 feet.
The product recently received a favorable blurb in the "sample it!" section of the June 2005 issue of Packaging Digest, a Chicago-based industry publication.
FrogPack will be marketed to all the major shipping companies such as UPS and FedEx, Morgan-Fisher says.
As with Greenseal, Stanelco also is looking for U.S. manufacturers and distributors interested in working with the product.

24) Stanelco Takes First Order for 100% Biodegradable Material in Europe (BusinessWire)

Partner Invests $25 Million in New Starpol Product
TUESDAY, JULY 26, 2005 2:54 PM
- BusinessWire

ORLANDO, Fla., Jul 26, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Stanelco Inc., the American subsidiary of British-based Stanelco Group (UK:SEO) , has received a conditional commitment from joint venture partner SP Metal to buy 10,000 metric tons of its new biodegradable resin material, Starpol 2000(TM), for $25 million a year.

The new starch-based material can be used in place of oil-based products, such as plastics, and will completely biodegrade in an active compost in approximately 60 days. The material can be used in sheet or film form for such diverse products as food containers, carrier bags, shopping bags and many other areas where high-grade plastic sheets are used.

This announcement comes on the heels of Stanelco's acquisition of Biotec Holding GMBH and subsidiaries (Biotec), one of the world's leading exponents of starch technology, in June 2005.

"This commitment demonstrates that the market for starch-based programs is set for significant growth," said Stephanie Morgan-Fisher, CEO, Stanelco Inc. "We look forward to the prospect of completing the acquisition in the next few weeks."

The starch-based resin material is compatible with most extruders and thermoformers currently used in manufacturing, and can quickly be employed by companies reliant on oil-based products without any capital investment. The biodegradable granulate can also be used in blown-film applications.

"As oil prices continue to spiral upward, Starpol is increasingly becoming more cost-competitive, and already in some cases is less expensive than its oil-based competitors," said Morgan-Fisher. "Landfill space is in short supply and governments are seeking alternatives to non-renewable, non-recyclable substances.

"Stanelco is currently in discussion with a number of multi-national organizations to discuss the supply and usage of considerable quantities in the United States and worldwide," added Morgan-Fisher. "It will be a matter of weeks before we are in large scale production, as the material has performed so well on existing equipment during recent trials."

Starpol 2000 is the latest in a series of advancements into the packaging industry by Stanelco. Earlier this year, Stanelco introduced its GREENSEAL(TM) Radio Frequency sealing process. The process enables mono materials like APET and CPET to be welded without the use of any laminates, thus lowering the costs of materials by up to 25 percent. GREENSEAL also welds through contaminate, increasing the successful seal rate to 99.9 percent - virtually eliminating leakers in the case-ready industry.

The two technologies work hand in hand with each other, now allowing companies to explore a completely new arena for unparalleled success in MAP packaging. Stanelco is speaking with a number of major food suppliers in North America and the United Kingdom.

25) An interview with Terry Robins

Packaging technologies have evolved to a point where complying with public and private sector mandates is not only easier, but it makes economic sense.

The global marketplace's demand for standards compliance has been a key driving force. When it comes to blending the environmental aspects with paperboard industry production processes, ISO 14000, among other standards, has remained at the forefront.

However, according to Terry Robins, simply obtaining the certification is not enough in today's environment. Robins is spokesman for Stanelco Inc. Greenseal Technologies, based in Southampton, England. Companies with ISO 14000 certification, or those going through the process of obtaining the all encompassing environmental certification, must have feedback from their customers to assist with a continuous improvement plan, Robins adds.

"This will put the onus on companies to use any method available that improves their standing in relation to the environment," he said. "Greenseal technology will give any company an environmental improvement. In turn, as the use of Greenseal technology becomes wider, those companies that do not have this sealing method may be seen as non-compliant to ISO 14000 and not able to achieve accreditation."

Rector agrees, adding that providing proof that Neenah's mills operate in compliance with the highest environmental standards is important to many of its customers.

"The most interest has been in certification in general ISO 14000, ISO 9001, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), SFI, and Greenseal," she says. "However, to date, at the paper production level most of the interest is in FSC and Greenseal certification."

Outside Influences

According to Robins, one aspect that has increased environmental focus and influenced the industry's maturation has been the overwhelming consciousness of using fossil fuels.

"Everyone in the industry is realizing that by simply reducing the materials used it assists in lowering costs for producers and users alike. For instance, when manufacturing trays that are traditionally laminated, the skeletal waste (25-30 percent) is scrapped and often goes to landfill," he says. "However, when the trays are made of mono structures, all of the skeletal waste can be re-chipped and put back into the process, thus saving huge tonnages of fossil fuel material."

In addition, companies can make a seal that does not leak and can provide better product safety, no leaking packs, less shelf cleaning, fewer customer complaints, less repacking, and improved sales, Robins adds.

Specialized polymer coatings also have been applied more often on various sorts of packaging in recent years to suit customer demands, Robins explains. "In the UK alone, many scientists and packaging technologists have been working in these fields for a number of years. One of the inventors of the Greenseal technology has over 30 years of packaging and food technology experience in the retail industry and has been instrumental in a number of environmental packaging firsts," he says. "This is definitely a trend I see continuing, especially as new alternatives surface and more companies look to improving their offerings."

26) Patent has been assigned to Stanelco Fibre Optics Ltd FOR water-soluble Capsules

US Fed News
Alexandria, Va.

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 9 -- Allan Draisey of Felpham, Great Britain, Richard Martin Rencourt of Horndean, Great Britain, and Ryan Grimes of Southampton, Great Britain, have developed a process and apparatus for forming capsules.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Capsules, for example for the delivery of pharmaceuticals, are produced from at least three films of a water-soluble polymeric material, by deforming two of the films to form a multiplicity of recesses, and filling the recesses with a flowable filling material.

A film is used to cover the recesses in at least one of the films, and is welded to it by dielectric welding. The films with filled recesses are then brought together and welded together by dielectric welding to form filled capsules, which are cut or punched out of the welded film. The polymeric material may be gelatin, or a water-soluble cellulose derivative such as hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, and may also contain a plasticiser."

Uniquely Designed Containers Tailored for Floral Shipments
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2005--Petal Pack, unusually shaped, high-impact resistant containers designed expressly for growers and florists to eliminate damage while shipping fragile floral goods, is the newest packaging innovation being introduced by Stanelco, Inc., whose FrogPack packaging technology recently debuted in the United States.
Petal Pack containers are able to withstand punishment well beyond the strength of containers now being used to ship flowers. The Petal Pack containers are distinguished by a patented double-arch design that provides energy absorption characteristics vastly exceeding the durability of commercial floral shipping containers currently in use.

Petal Pack containers can be custom-designed to fit the needs of high-volume shippers of floral products, according to Stephanie Morgan-Fisher, director and CEO, Stanelco Inc. North America. "They are a unique adaptation of our popular FrogPack containers, which have earned respect for their ability to ship fragile goods like electronics and glassware with virtually no breakage."

Petal Pack containers have been re-shaped and adapted to accommodate the shape and structure of a floral bouquet in a vase or an elegant long-stemmed floral arrangement. The key features of Petal Pack, include:

Impact resistance beyond packaging currently used to ship flowers
Lightweight design, reducing shipping costs
Compostable, which provides an environmental benefit
Scalable in size; packages can fit virtually all floral shipping needs
Self-sealing; no additional adhesive is necessary to seal Petal Pack
Reduced operating costs, from storage to cost of shipment
Petal Pack utilizes a unique technology called shock-absorbing arcuate panel technology (SAAP) for added strength and protective qualities. Petal Pack's standard package design, without customization, measures nearly 40 inches long and 30 inches wide.

Completely setting Petal Pack apart from other containers, and virtually eliminating damage to flowers being shipped to wholesalers and retailers or directly to consumers, is its double-arch design, according to David Edwards, Aquasol, a subsidiary of Stanelco, the designer and inventor of the Petal Pack and FrogPack design. "Our innovative design is what provides Petal Pack with unusual strength," noted Edwards. "Its double arch feature gives it strength that simply makes obsolete customary strength measurements that relate to withstanding so many pounds per square inch."

Petal Pack can be easily recycled or composted and is cut from flat stock, allowing retailers to minimize space for storage of pre-folded Petal Packs. The flat stock can be custom cut to fit particular types of flowers and only requires four folds to complete the packaging. Once the flat stock is folded into a Petal Pack, multiple Petal Packs can be stacked on top of one another, decreasing space needed for shipment and storage and increasing the number of Petal Packs that can be shipped at one time.

Flowers shipped in a Petal Pack also contain a nutrition packet that prolong the life of enclosed floral arrangements.

30) SEO announces Hardshell Capsule For Edible Applications.

SEO announces its partner Carclo PLC have successfully developed an edible, starch-based hardshell capsule for edible applications including dietary supplements and pharmaceutical uses.

Carclo and Stanelco combine to replace gelatine capsules

By Julie Bieles 12/09/2005

The pair have developed a starch-based polymer for edible applications.

12 September 2005 UK companies Stanelco and Carclo have developed a starch-based hardshell capsule for edible applications including dietary supplements and pharmaceutical uses.
Carclo Technical Plastics has manufactured the capsules using a polymer blend developed by Stanelco subsidiaries Adept Polymers and Biotec Holding Group. The capsules are being developed as an economically viable alternative to gelatine.
Work to bring the new hardshell technology to market is ongoing, said Stanelco. The starch-based material and the manufacturing process could lead to lower production costs than for gelatine capsules, it said.
Other advantages of the starch-based capsules include greater heat and humidity resistance, and easier filling, according to the company.

RNS

starch-based alternative to gelatine hardshell capsules
15/09/2005 - UK-based Stanelco says it has developed a starch-based alternative to gelatine hardshell capsules that could also offer cost benefits for dietary supplement makers.

Gelatine,, an animal derived material, is becoming less favoured as a delivery form owing to a rise in the number of vegetarians and concerns about possible contamination of animal-derived materials with transmissible spongiform encepahlopathies (TSEs), the infectious agent behind mad cow disease and its human equivalent Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
In addition, the natural water bound in gelatine makes it a less than ideal medium for moisture-sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).

Pharmaceutical, vitamin and supplement ingredient makers are increasingly offering formulations without gelatine to meet market demand but many of these are more expensive than the standard gelatine variants.

The main alternative to gelatine hardshell capsules is HPMC (hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose), a synthetic material with a significantly higher cost base than gelatine. One of the leading manufacturers of this type of hard capsule is Pfizer subsidiary Capsugel with its VCaps range, while other players include Scherer, Shionogi Qualicaps, and Su Heung.

Starch-based capsules have been developed in the past - notably by Capsugel in the 1980s - but success has been limited as the capsules could not be filled on industry-standard equipment. Capsugel commissioned bespoke machines from Bosch for its offering.

In contrast, Stanelco maintains that both its starch-based material and the manufacturing process offer the prospect of lower unit costs of production than even gelatine capsules.

Gelatine capsule shells are currently made using a dip moulding process followed by a slow drying process, which injection moulded starch-based alternatives do not require. They are ready for filling immediately following manufacture.

Starch-based hard-shell capsules also offer greater resilience to humidity and heat than gelatine and allow for easy filling since they are non-static.

The product, in development for five years, still needs to get regulatory approval before the product can be consumed by humans but the firm is now looking to join up with third parties to optimise formulations and develop the route to market.

We believe that the world market for hard capsules is significantly larger than that for soft capsules with many billions of hard capsules produced annually, said Stanelco.

The product was created by subsidiary Adept Polymers - which developed the new polymer blend along with recently acquired Biotec Holding - and partner Carclo Technical Plastics, working on the capsule.

Stanelco's subsidiary, Aquasol Limited, filed for patent protection for the new hardshell capsule in 1999. The patent, which is jointly owned with Carclo, is proceeding to grant in various territories.

The design of the capsule also offers tamper evident and novel dissolution features as well as the possibility of multi-compartments.

Other companies developing and selling alternatives to gelatine capsules have tended to focus on the soft capsule end of the market. They include BioProgress of the UK which has a range of cellulose-based soft capsules based on its XGel film technology, Cardinal Health with its seaweed-based VegiCaps soft capsule range, and Banner Pharmacaps' EcoCaps, which are also made from seaweed.

Stanelco Debuts PulsLine(R) Solution for Tamper-Evident, Anti-Counterfeit Security Labeling

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2005--Stanelco PLC (LSE:SEO) introduces PulsLine(R), the latest intelligent, anti-counterfeit label on the market. Designed to protect against fraud and product tampering, PulsLine is currently available in the United States and United Kingdom, and is used to safeguard products in the food, information technology, airline, pharmaceutical and automotive industries as well as many others.

When applied to form a seal, PulsLine provides evidence of tampering which can be detected both visually and electronically, vastly increasing the safety and integrity of a secured product.

Following ten years of research and development by the experts at Aquasol, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stanelco, PulsLine is the first labeling system of its kind to use a unique patented multi-layer laminate construction. The applications are almost endless and offer protection and security in all retail environments.

Utilizing a security thread derived from the bank note industry, PulsLine identifies products as genuine. For enhanced security, PulsLine is designed to incorporate un-copyable bio-codes, DNA, radio frequency identification tags and holograms. Additionally, the thread can be micro-printed with a company name or logo, which can be revealed by removal of a unique tab pull. Additionally, the security thread has a tactile feel so those who are visually impaired can verify the authenticity of their purchased products.

"It took several years of research and testing, but now we are ready to launch PulsLine," said David Edwards, product development director, Aquasol. "The development of the PulsLine took years because the adhesive had to be strong. Now PulsLine is the latest anti-counterfeit, anti-tampering security label available."

In the past, counterfeiters have cut under product security seals in a manner not visually apparent, tampered with the products, then resealed them with the intent of returning the product to a retailer. With PulsLine, a retailer can scan the seal and it will stop where the knife cut the seal, exposing the fraud.

Designed to carry advanced anti-counterfeiting features, PulsLine can be continually updated to ensure that companies stay at least one step ahead of counterfeiters.

37) France votes for ban on non-biodegradable bags

By Fiona Harvey in London
Published: October 14 2005 03:00 | Last updated: October 14 2005 03:00

Plastic bags could soon be passin France, following a vote by the national assembly to ban the use of non-biodegradable plastics in bags and packaging by 2010.

The bags have already become a rarer sight in the country, as a government initiative to reduce their use prompted a 20 per cent reduction in the number distributed in 2004.

France is following the example set by countries such as Ireland, which imposed a 15 cent (10p) levy on the bags in 2002, as well as South Africa, Rwanda and some Indian states, which have banned certain forms of bags.

In all these places, the number of bags used and found as litter dropped markedly.

Though plastic bags are routinely given out by supermarkets and shops, they do not naturally break down in the environment and can stay intact in landfill for an estimated 400 years. They also pose a threat to marine life and birds, which may choke on the bags or become trapped or entangled in them.

In the UK alone, shoppers use about 8bn plastic bags a year, the vast majority of which end up in landfill.

Forms of plastic bag that do break down in the environment have been available for years, but are not widely used because they are more expensive than conventional bags. However, the rising price of oil has made most forms of plastic dearer.

Howard White, managing director of Stanelco, which makes a biodegradable form of bag, said: "This is a way of being responsible to the environment while also saving millions of barrels of oil, and now is the time for action. Only legislation can make this happen."

In France, the ban has an extra dimension. The national assembly voted through the ban earlier this week as part of a series of measures on agriculture.

One green alternative to plastic made from petrochemicals is to make the bags from starch, which French legislators believe could provide a boost to the farming sector.

More countries may institute controls on plastic bags in the near future. In Germany, some legislators have been considering such a move, while a levy on the bags has been mooted by the Scottish National Executive

SEO Statement Regarding French Government Decision to Eliminate All Non-Biodegradable
Plastic Bags by January 2010

Stanelco PLC (LSE:SEO), the RF (radio frequency)
applications group, and SP Metal, the leading European manufacturer of
household packaging products, who are joint owners of Biotec Holdings
GmbH and subsidiaries ("Biotec"), welcome the French Government's
decision to eliminate all non-biodegradable plastic bags by January
2010.
Biotec has the capabilities to pioneer, innovate and commercialize
biodegradable plastic bags. With the support of its owners Stanelco
and SP Metal, Biotec is well placed to benefit from the policy and

one million tons.
Biotec is one of the world's leading exponents of starch
technology for packaging materials. Biotec's film is suited for
applications where it replaces conventional plastics. The natural
starch used is one of the lowest cost biodegradable, compostable,

Howard White, Managing Director of Stanelco said: "We are
extremely pleased the French government has the courage to make this
groundbreaking decision. Until now there has been too much lip service
and political soundbites paid to discussing legislation supporting
environmentally responsible practices - and nothing meaningful has
been implemented."
"This is a way of being responsible to the environment while also
saving millions of barrels of oil, and now is the time for action.
Only legislation can make this happen."
"We have the capability and technology - all we require is the
incentive to implement it. We are very excited at the prospect of
developing and providing products to what will be a huge market."

51) Stanelco FY Results 28/02/2006

CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT

The Board's strategy over the last year has been to continue the transformation of the Group from a manufacturer and supplier of capital goods into an
intellectual property business. This allows the Company to exploit the Group's core technologies in Radio Frequency Technology, RF Applications and
Biodegradable starch film material directed at the international packaging industry.

MANAGING DIRECTORS STATEMENT

The Group has been in a transitional phase, which is now coming to an end. There have been significant strides forward in this time with regard to GREENSEAL and our biodegradable product offerings, which are new, groundbreaking, innovative and exciting. The opportunities for commercialisation are substantial and as a result we have attracted the attention of some of the largest companies in the world. We believe 2006 will be the year that we commence full commercialisation of these technologies. In order to satisfy likely market demand for our biodegradable materials it will be necessary to build a number of manufacturing plants referred to as micro manufacturing facilities

I would like to give some indication of our potential market, especially in the US. We are evaluating one tray, for one customer that has a current usage of 1.5 billion units per annum. Each tray weighs approx 50 grams and therefore consumes around 75,000 tonnes of (non-environmentally friendly) plastic a year. It would require between 500 and 600 tray lidders to seal just these trays. We are able to offer a complete solution through the supply chain.

CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S STATEMENT OUTLOOK

In light of the progress on all fronts but in particular in relation to the commercialisation of GREENSEAL, Starpol and Biotec products we continue to view
the forthcoming year with optimism. We now have several major technologies and products, which are starting to reach their target markets.

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2006--In response to burgeoning U.S. demand for biodegradable materials in the quick service restaurant and mass-retailer packaging industries, Stanelco PLC (LSE:SEO - News) has confirmed the company will be offering a limited number of manufacturing licenses to U.S. companies to keep up with biodegradable packaging growth. The licenses, described as micro-manufacturing licenses, will be for the manufacture of a minimum of 20,000 tons of biodegradable resin utilizing Stanelco's STARPOL(TM) range of biodegradables.
Volume manufacturers of materials used in the U.S. quick service restaurant, supermarket and consumer mass-retailing industries are expected to be the earliest licensees for Stanelco's micro-manufacturing partnerships.

Stanelco has decided to take this step of offering vertical integration to a limited number of manufacturers who share with them environmental sustainable and competitive mindsets.

The decision to limit the number of licenses is in order that the roll out of these groundbreaking technologies can be carefully managed and to ensure that our partners have a secure supply of material that will enable them to offer continuous supply in turn to their customers. Based on feedback to date there is no shortage of interest in this venture. Accordingly, in order to accelerate the availability of our materials in the U.S., preference will be given to those companies able to move to agreement and bring product to market in the soonest time frame.

56) Soluble capsules From carclo's results 12/06/2006.

Soluble capsules

Our joint project with Stanelco to develop injection moulded capsules for
controlled release drug delivery has also made good progress. We now have a
committed launch customer and, on completion of the regulatory approvals early next year, the capsules will be commercially launched in the veterinary market.
We continue to seek a partner for the human application of this technology.
These products can be viewed on the Carclo web site
www.carclo-plc.com
Through this project we have learned a great deal about how to overcome the moulding issues with soluble polymers and in particular with Stanelco's Starpol 10/50. We are confident that more product applications will develop around these new thermoplastic materials.

Where do we start, driver???
SEO are raising brass. For every 5 you own you can buy 3 at 0.8p. Get your order in for your 6 now. Age of reason might be buying some..........amd they might not. Howard White is a shady character who made money buying cheap businesses and making 'em expensive. Maestro has run out of superlatives and is now doing a passable impression of PM1 on the sp side. Someone has bought 3% of SEOs shares and they are (by concensus) Franco-Spanish, with a touch more French than Spanish, so I'll go with Andorran. It might be SPhere or not, but this is a circular argument. We've been discussing averages, but my batting average is lower than anybodys SEO average. Asda are careless with e-mails and nobody knows who qualifies for what and when. The current directors are getting rewards based on performance starting with an extra 10 minutes playtime if they can find there way to the toilet without help or ending up in the stationary cupboard.
Current forecasts for the post offer SP range between bankrupt and 25, with an outside chance of 0.3 Euros if those damn froggies get in on the act. The EGM contains a re-enactment of the battle of Waterloo, courtesy of The Sealed Knot, if The Times are to be believed.
Just another simple day as an SEO shareholder, mate.
Oh. And I'm bored.
Alan

First time I've been over here. Superb. Well done Driver. Your site answered my question "what happened whilst I was on holiday?". The sp already told me "not much", but with SEO the sp might have fluctuated between 15 and 35!
Thanks again.

Morning all.

Thought that you might be interested to know that a large supermarket is starting NEXT WEEK to use Biotec's biodegrable trays for some of its fruit packaging with a view to expanding it out to all fresh products - including all types of meat and dairy.

They are also running tests right now on RF sealing of their fresh produce packaging and I assume that if they are successful - and there is no reason to doubt that they will be after ASDA's trials - then they will announce a contract with SEO as soon as the exclusive period is over in April next year.

How do I know? I teach yoga to two people who work in the head office of this supermarket chain in fresh produce managing departments.

The use of the biodegradable trays is starting next week so it will be in the public demain. So check it out and see if you can spot the change.
