How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Cant believe the prices on Singh in the golf tonight - off the last tee all square with Daly he missed the fairway and drifted from 1.7 to 3 (at which point i backed). The lie and line he had were as good as being on the fairway. He then hits to 6 ft and I green up at 1.22. :-)

And he missed it lol - hes putted awful all day - good to have some more opportunities in the play off

Tend to find when it gets near to the end of a golf tournament, the prices fluctuate wildly on every shot. IMO the price changes are overdone in respect of the odds lengthening when a player misses a fairway or green. I think a lot of punters have the mentality of their own game that unless they hit the fairway then the green then they wont make a par, whereas the top pros make par or better far more often than not (unless in a hazard or unplayable or route to green completely blocked)

Saying that, play off has just got interesting - singh hits it into the heavy rough blocked by trees, price out to 3.0. Then Daly hits it in the lake, Singh back in to 1.2 (missed the 3.0 this time as i was too busy typing - doh!!!)

Hope that helps.

Sorry! Ignore that for Betfair. It doesn't work. I find it useful for eBay though.

Afternoon all

see the 2.30 at wolverhampton, shaaban traded at 1.03 in running and got beat - seems to happen quite a lot on the all weather

Fundamentalist - 25 Apr 2005 18:11 - 2437 of 10502

Dont know about anyone else but having a sh*t afternoon - first 5 races had 3 reds and they all won!!! Have got about 2/3s back so far - may have to lump on to the gooners tonight (though price looks a bit skinny for a north london derby to me)

Harlosh - 25 Apr 2005 18:22 - 2438 of 10502

Not long started Steve, not too bad so far. Arsenal must come in tonight I think.

Diego - 25 Apr 2005 18:37 - 2439 of 10502

Harlosh, at 1.55 I think it's a bit skimpish. I was rather thinking of putting an order at around 1.8 but I bet they score in the first minute.

Fundamentalist - 25 Apr 2005 18:46 - 2440 of 10502

Diego

tend to agree the price is a bit skinny though theoretically Arsenal will desperately want to win to all but guarantee 2nd place and delay chelseas party a while longer (you may have to wait till next week for your money scrip lol) that said Henry and Ljundberg are still both out and campbell only likely to make the bench

John

when we meeting up for a beer?

Harlosh - 25 Apr 2005 18:57 - 2441 of 10502

Diego,

I agree. I too will wait I think for a better price but you do of course risk an early goal. It's swings and roundabouts I think.

Harlosh - 25 Apr 2005 18:58 - 2442 of 10502

bakko,

Are you there. Still up for a beer with Steve and myself?

Fundamentalist - 25 Apr 2005 20:03 - 2443 of 10502

Oh dear Jose

Fundamentalist - 25 Apr 2005 20:24 - 2444 of 10502

Thatll teach you all to wait for 1.8 - off to green up

Scripophilist - 25 Apr 2005 21:12 - 2446 of 10502

I had Arsenal down for a 1-0 before the off.

Fundamentalist - 25 Apr 2005 21:13 - 2447 of 10502
