How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Next Wednesday it is then.

Any preference for a venue? My missus could give us both a lift Fundy and pick us up so you can have a drink. Anywhere near you bakko so you can drink without driving?

bakko - 25 Apr 2005 22:08 - 2461 of 10502

The best place for me would be somewhere in centre of Manchester as its convenient to pass through from work. Will get the Mrs to pick me up later.

Is Mcr centre OK with both of you?

Harlosh - 26 Apr 2005 15:11 - 2469 of 10502

Fundamentalist - 26 Apr 2005 15:12 - 2470 of 10502

Price went from 2.3 to 3.05 back to 1.97 in the space of about 8 minutes!!!

caught it on the way up, got caught out hugely by the turn then got a bit more on the way down to leave me with a small profit - if youd caught it right its was as good as it gets - 90 ticks all in if im right

Harlosh - 26 Apr 2005 15:13 - 2471 of 10502

Unfortunately I didn't.

I've been dabbling in the snooker over the last few days and got myself totally confused over my positions. I think all is looking well but with bets on 6 of the last 8, both back and lay and in play tinkering as matches ebb and flow my brain has begun to hurt. The betfair caculations don't seem to help much as these adjust as matches finish and don't I think show position as at the conclusion of everything except for the two players where I've no money either way. Onwards and upwards into the evening sessions. :-))

Kayak - 26 Apr 2005 19:05 - 2475 of 10502

kernow, you may find it easier to tick 'include settled bets...' under settings. Otherwise it removes any outcomes that have been determined as they happen, leaving you with the possible variance.

kernow - 26 Apr 2005 19:15 - 2476 of 10502

Hmm... now why didn't I see that. Thanks Kayak - an easier solution than testing my algebra and Excel skills!
