FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

So how do you make a cluck then? Probably with a hen and a cockrell I guess :)

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 18:41 - 248 of 21973

CCC = Coo (pigeons) Cluck (chickens) Clan ( those who eat them)

Think you have had too much of that wine already!!

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 18:46 - 250 of 21973

Yes I reckon so - pity he can't share it with us.

foale - 26 Nov 2007 18:46 - 251 of 21973

tough one to call the Dow today.... might just range 12900-13000...might not

ptholden - 26 Nov 2007 18:48 - 252 of 21973

Well, closed short for +52, although possibly further to fall

ptholden - 26 Nov 2007 18:54 - 253 of 21973

That's me done for the day, time to switch to Betfair.

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 18:57 - 254 of 21973

i'll tell you on the morrow Peter .... Dow now tracking south with some determination

foale - 26 Nov 2007 19:10 - 255 of 21973

Seemed to be....but possible test then...and rebound from 12920 again
Watching for now...

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 19:58 - 256 of 21973

had my dinner .... yummy yummy! .... now down below 12900

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 20:03 - 257 of 21973

Good - I bet it was tastier than mine, too; though mine was OK. Need to sort out a pile of accumulated papers now before relaxing with wine in front of the fire later.

Hope your Dow is moving down all right - or up, whichever...

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 20:09 - 258 of 21973

what you doing on here? ...... are you really as much of a saddo as me? .... have not lit fire tonight; keep it for cold weather (us poor old OAPs!)

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 20:15 - 259 of 21973

having set stops on Dow which will ensure a good profit at worst, have now gone short FTSE as that must assuredly open even further down

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 20:15 - 260 of 21973

Don't give me that saddo stuff Cynic - I don't believe it! I just have the laptop open while sorting out the junk that tends to pile up in this room, and it's quite nice to read messages that pop up now and then - keeps me amused!

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 20:16 - 261 of 21973

would rather keep you in profit than just amused .... London may well be quite gory tomorrow

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 20:18 - 262 of 21973

Thanks for warning me. Cheshire is forecast to be dull and drizzly.

cynic - 26 Nov 2007 20:27 - 263 of 21973

haven't been to Manch for quite a while .... quite like that place even if i did get my car keyed all over one night a few years ago .... certainly far pref to L'pool!

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 20:28 - 264 of 21973

I steer clear of both these days. Chester is a pleasant little city - and London's great for a change.

Toya - 26 Nov 2007 20:44 - 265 of 21973

Job done - and a lovely tidy desk for the morning! Let's hope it goes well for us all -whether up, down or sideways...

chocolat - 26 Nov 2007 20:53 - 266 of 21973

Wish I had a tidy desk :S
