Yes noticed the change from corn starch to potato.
This may be a good thing due to the bad publicity of late re that the move into corn starch bio use is effecting the supply of corn as a food crop in third world counties. Potato change of use is not expected to have the same detrimental effect on the food chain.
Who knows anymore.

oblomov - 13 Jun 2007 09:31 - 24732 of 27111

If this were coming from SEO I'd take little notice of it, for obvious reasons. But I have no reason to believe Sphere are tarred with the same brush as SEO spin-wise.

If the 100,000 tons happens and SEO benefit, it would have been by luck, in my opinion. Maybe the purchase of Biotec will prove to have been the one good move in SEO's stratergy.

It may also have been the reason for Schroders getting involved and not the MMP's and Greenseal as I had believed. Maybe they're more shrewd than we give them credit for.

As I understand it (and I may be wrong) potato is the way things are likely to go because of the effect on the price of other food products if corn is used. The use of corn is far more diverse in the food industry than potato and its worth as a material in biodegradable applications would raise the price of bread, pastry, cereals, etc etc.

so maybe the irish got it right in the long term after all - when they were dishing out the land.!!!!!

I won't get too excited about anything at present, not so long ago SEO seemed to intimate that they would go it alone with Biotec's products in USA and there appeared to be a bit of a falling out with SPhere; for that reason it would not surprise me to see SPhere and Biotec excluding SEO from their future plans knowing that SEO probably could not stand up to another elongated court case. I hope I am wrong. Despite thinking that I would sit it out with my remaining 400k, I have reduced to 100k as I wanted to put my cash to better use elsewhere; I will now sit it out with the remainder and hopefully will top up on the news that the present management will have undergone a lie detector test before releasing any 'good news'!

Fred1new - 13 Jun 2007 10:26 - 24736 of 27111

I do hope the K stands for shares and not . If it is 100K lend me a bob for a cup of tea.

oblomov - 13 Jun 2007 11:52 - 24737 of 27111

I know what you mean, Alan. Hard to find a reasonable carpenter down here as well.

hewittalan6 - 13 Jun 2007 11:53 - 24738 of 27111

Touche...........

jimward9 - 13 Jun 2007 12:13 - 24739 of 27111

The new boss at SEO has put out one RNS it hurt the share price yes. But at least he told the truth, so it gives me hope that in the future, we can belleve him, is he brave or a fool. Me i will give him a chance.

greekman - 13 Jun 2007 12:23 - 24740 of 27111

Jimward9,

I agree he may have told the truth, but some lies are told by keeping stum on certain points, as the known facts then if not defended tell the lie. What is the issue with Greanseal, Starpol, Cig Filters etc.
What is the current state of affairs. Something is wrong with these issues but WHAT.
If we had an explanation of what had gone wrong, he could have started with a clean sheet, and yes then I would be more prepared to give him that chance.

oblomov - 13 Jun 2007 13:05 - 24741 of 27111

Possibly another piece of the jigsaw, at least it shows SPheres capacity to obtain the potato starch:-

and here:-

'AdventAgri will be able to work in synergy with Biotec, an entity of the SPhere group, to develop agro-materials. Biotec has 200 patents and ten years of research in the development of the bioplastiques ones. It is also planned to create an application laboratory and innovations to Haussimont and to integrate projects in the pole of Inudustries competitiveness and Agro-resources of the areas Champagne-Ardenne and Picardy. Lastly, a unit of granules the bioplastiques ones should leave ground in the three years with to key 50 to 80 employment. '

kimoldfield - 13 Jun 2007 13:10 - 24743 of 27111

Fred, sadly yes, it stands for shares not , but hey, who knows, by the year 3000 when the next Starpol is produced it could well stand for . Mind you, by 3000 will probably be equivalent to today's 1p.

oblomov - 13 Jun 2007 13:16 - 24744 of 27111

From the recent trading statement:-

'Biotec, which is owned 50 per cent. by Stanelco and 50 per cent. by SPhere S.A.,
sells virtually all of its biopolymer output to its shareholders. In the current
financial year to 31 December 2007, it was envisaged that each shareholder would
take approximately half of the production capacity of biopolymer and Biotec has
prepared itself for that eventuality. However, the Stanelco sales and product
pipeline is currently nascent and is expected to be developed over the course of
the next 18 months or so.
'

Could it be that SEO have seen more potential in using it's 50% production capacity with Sphere to produce bioplastics for the French bag market than using it in the U.S.as was previously proposed?

kimoldfield - 13 Jun 2007 13:34 - 24745 of 27111

I thought SEO were only capable of imagining potential Oblo, not actually seeing it! We can live in hope though.

oblomov - 13 Jun 2007 14:00 - 24746 of 27111

Well, in this case it may have been pointed out to them by Sphere, Kim!

Sphere seem well-placed to make this happen (using Biotec) - SEO would benefit without too much involvement, or opportunity, hopefully, to 'male it up'.

edited in view of Greeks post below - now I'm off to the Male It Up Inn for a pint or two!

Mad Pad - 13 Jun 2007 14:04 - 24747 of 27111

I think we all believe the ace in the pack is Biotec, just wondering how Stanelco are going to manage to screw this one up as well,if they allready havn't!Tempted to buy a few mill.,but the Biotec scenario looks to good to be true so it probably is,so will hold off for a while.

greekman - 13 Jun 2007 14:08 - 24748 of 27111

Sorry Oblomov,

But you can't say Cock Up anymore (see The Talk to Yourself Thread last week, post 5973) you have to say Male it up.
Wash your mouth out with soap.
I have a good mind to report you to the thought Police

I promise to get back to being sensible when I have something to talk about re SEO.

hewittalan6 - 14 Jun 2007 07:59 - 24749 of 27111

Been tryring to do some research on silos and the only thing I came up with is that "silos" is an anagram of "i loss", so its probably true :-(
Alan

oblomov - 14 Jun 2007 08:21 - 24750 of 27111

Alan, I did some research on SPhere and all I could come up with was that 'sphere' is an anagram of 'herpes'!

I'm still hopeful something good will come of this, though, SPwise.
