Bioprogress is a stock I have been in and out of quite a few times since it floated in May but not much mention here on the Investors' Room. Does anyone else follow this stock. I see it is up 1.5p today and a few good buyers seem to have appeared.

Hi chartist2004, I never like to give or set price targets, thats up to the market. One as to ask though if this news from Tim Freeborn is correct what is the new money needed for???????.
A, they are running out of working capital since the rights issue before Xmas,
B, they are working together with a large US company in partnership on some further big capital project,
C, they feel they need to refinance the balance sheet before a whole raft of deals after the results
D, It maybe a combination of all three above
Perhaps the line where Tim says one investor was told he needed to pay the money before wednesday is the big give away, surely this means news will be forthcoming not wether, but that the deal as been done and that the news will be out in the Public Domain by at least Wednesday.
Personaly for myself, the sooner the better, as all this speculation doesnt do much for the blood pressure. Having a look on our competitors site one can only describe it as a nuthouse.
I still feel very confident and have indeed heard news that there is no need for panic, not that I ever did feel need to panic.
Some have called it a leaky stock on here, but come on lets face it the leaks are coming from punters, and not investors or the management.
Good luck to all.
cheers GF.

THE COUNT--->GOLDFINGER
Isn't there silly hype on just about every thread of any stock that begins to attract hot attention?
Do you let muppets who don't even know what the company does scare you from your own belief of where the stock may or may not be heading?
When I read some of the crap on the various BBs, I wonder whether some of those idiots should be banned from investing their own money for their own protection. But such is life.

From Lemmings...
Bioprogress, A classic tree shake, or are investors simply activating their
stop-losses, or could there be a sea change in sentiment? Well, this lemming activated his stop-loss yesterday.just as well as another 16.5% is wiped off, down from a high of 164p to 122p. I may have the chance to buy back in at 110/115p before events turn for the better. Who knows, I may end up ruing my strategy. All in the timing as they say.
One broker known to lemming cites that mm`s are manipulating the share price ahead of what is expected to be a significant news item which is expected within days. Probably on the March 8. The same source says that mm`s are short of stock.
This is a classic way of ruffling a few feathers in winter forcing those with few feathers left to sell the nest egg for a winter warmer. This may or may not be accurate analysis of the past 3 days trades, but one has to wonder what will happen once the assumed announcement is as expect, announced. Would the mm`s have you chase up and over the 164pprobably!
I don't think that enough weight has been given to the enormity of the two FMC undertakings to spend at least $80m with BPRG in each case. Where else, or how often do we see contracts of that magnitude? Certainly not in the AIM or Small Cap sector. Only the capital equipment stocks in the Footsie 100, and construction , property, and resource stocks in the FT250, report deals of that size.
NXT, Imagination, Skyepharma, ARM, Autonomy, Xaar, Torotrak and Antonov, Oystertec, Aerobox, are only a few of the many IP companies which have recently closed well received contracts with global firms, and whose shares have since been rising, in some cases swiftly. For security reasons, most of these agreements have no value ascribed to them, or if they do, consist of 1-2m down payments or less, and tiny royalties which might earn 1-2m/pa, and even that not for three years.
The "at least $160m" , FMC contract is big enough to imply that BPRG is a FT 250-stock-in-the-making at the very least. FMC would not have committed to such a large deal if BPRG had looked like remaining a small time company with small-time directors remaining a Small Cap stock - let alone an AIM stock, And the lowest Footsie 250 stocks have a cap value of around 300m except for two or three which have fallen further and will probably be relegated. This corresponds to roughly 2.95 for a share in BPRG. The middle of the FT250 is inhabited by caps of around 600m equivalent to a share price of 5.90

Interesting post from geoffarnold over on ADVFN, perhaps might explain why BPRG might want to raise funds? Also remember a reported comment from Graham Hind recently to the effect that good liquidity in BPRG stock meant that he might consider acquisitions....

From the Telegraph
Which are you? A gambler or an investor?
(Filed: 29/02/2004)
A clutch of speculative shares took a knock last week - a welcome development which removes some of the froth before it begins to destabilise the market.
I shuddered at an inquiry I received that reminded me of the mania of 2000. "My friend and I, we recently bought heavily into Bioprogress near 160p, but the shares are now plunging. Can you tell me, what does this company do?"
Four years ago I heard from a punter who had bought 100,000 shares in Medi@Invest at above 100p. The price was rumoured to be heading instantly for 200p. This punter was panicking because there was no way he could settle the purchase, or afford to take a loss, but the price was 60p and falling. He too asked: "What does this company do?"
Thankfully, this kind of ignorant speculation seems to be mainly a feature of the Aim market. Bioprogress, where hopes focus on a mass-market replacement for gelatine in pills, is starting to sign licensing agreements.
The snag is, when the market mood turns greedy, a share quickly discounts any prospect of a deal. Bioprogress shares had risen from about 100p to around 160p in anticipation of a second major licensing deal, and at 136.5p from the fall to 107.5p) we are still waiting for news.
It's vital to understand what you're investing in and be disciplined about judging the market price, relative to a sense of the underlying value of the share. This is the touchstone of investing versus speculation. If I can't figure a benchmark value for a share I tend to avoid it, or recognise I'm gambling.

Reply from the said E.Jackson;
I'd always state if I own any share, I write investor diary columns. So if there's no mention I don't own it. This may not be a reflection on the calibre of the share, more my portfolio balance. Right now I'm disinclined to increase overall risk exposure further.
My key point was the eery parallel with 2000 when someone was also chasing me c/o Sunday Telegraph, having bought a big position in an Aim share without a clue what the company did.
At least with Bioprogress there are grounds to think this share could still be a multi-bagger from here, one has to see what evolves and keep re-evaluating. If I was owning Bioprogress shares, I'd keep them tucked away (and respect the risks). Short-term there is lots of excitement already but long-term plenty of potential upside if the company delivers.
Regarding the results presentation, Bioprogress's PR is managed by Bankside Consultants with whom I regularly cross swords because they usually limit the keynote results presentation (as on Photo-Me International) to 'analysts'. I feel this (like at other analyst meetings) is a respectable way to maintain a cartel on insight, for stockbrokers. In my experience of sometimes getting into both 'analyst' and 'press' meetings, there is usually a lot of juicy insight at the analyst meetings that neither companies nor brokers want to see appearing in the press.
But it's also possible to get seduced by an exciting story at these City meets and I've found over the years that shrewd private investors outside the City circles often have a better grasp of the essentials. Investors on this board have identified Bioprogress earlier than the City!

The Count, Hi there you said last night....."Do you let muppets who don't even know what the company does scare you from your own belief of where the stock may or may not be heading?".
The answer to that is certainly not.
The reason Ive got worked up over these is the way the MMs have played this one over the last week. Even Mike Walters I am led to beleive as had a go at them over the last few days.
The more I see people try and put this stock or similar ones down the more I add to it anyway.
Evil Knievil gave me a valuable bit of information on this a few years back he said the more a company or a group of individuals complain about me and my actions the more I realise their insecurity and the more I realise I have the upper hand on a stock position.
In other words if someone is secure with their position why go out of ones way to preach that.
Ive been adding all week.
Wishing all holders good look.
cheers GF.

GF I notice you added shedloads well before it hit the bottom last week. There is now a ' fear factor ' in this stock and the MMs will latch on to that, just watch - the minute the price gets marked down then the panic selling will start again. Last week on this stock must have been a market maker's dream.

Scottie I added tranches all the way down to the bottom and back. Being a long term investor usually 5 to 7 years or more I have no fears. I own this company, along with others yes, the management the directors are just the door men as far as I am concerned, there on the door before I enter my empire.
This is no gamble to me, If I wanted a gamble a quick return and if others do, I suggest you pop down to your local bookies and bet on the Cheltnam festival soon to come up or pop along to your nearest casino for a binge night out.
Investing in my eyes is not a quick dabble and dont really give a jot what the MMs do shorterm, but have to say their actions of late not just on this stock but a lot of others leads me to beleive that if we dont get an organisation set up instead of the toothless FSA, we will indeed lose many new investors to this business along with the ones who swore never to return on the dot com bubble burst.
Their recent actions have been way over the top, and smack of nothing other than over the top greed. We all know they are a law unto themselves and that on many ocassions the economic laws of supply and demand play no part in their business, but there are limits as to just how far consumers will put up with their antics.
Please have a good investment week cheers GF.

An alternative? Up a lot today
Micap plc
Micap plc announces the grant of its first pharmaceutical licence. SkyePharma
plc will use the Micap(TM) microencapsulation technology for up to 10
pharmaceutical products.
Micap plc ('Micap') (LSE:MIC), the UK technology licensing company specialising
in the microencapsulation of active ingredients within yeast cells, today
announces a major development in its pharmaceutical business.
SkyePharma plc ('SkyePharma') (LSE:SKP), the UK-based developer of drug delivery
technologies for the pharmaceuticals industry, has exercised an option to
acquire an exclusive licence to use Micap's patented microencapsulation
technology. This allows SkyePharma to use Micap's technology for the delivery of
hydrophobic drugs in up to ten nominated pharmaceutical products ('Option
Products') to be selected by SkyePharma.
Under the terms of the agreement SkyePharma will make an initial payment to
Micap of 500,000 and ongoing royalties will be payable by SkyePharma to Micap
on sales made, or licences of, any Option Product. SkyePharma will make
milestone payments on the first successful completion of Phase II and Phase III
clinical trials and also on the first commercial launch of an Option Product.
Michael Brennand, CEO of Micap, said: 'The granting of our first licence for
pharmaceutical applications of our technology is a significant milestone for
Micap. The commitment shown by SkyePharma is a major validation of our
microencapsulation technology. We look forward to progressing the relationship
through clinical trials and product launches. '
Michael Ashton, CEO of Skyepharma, said: 'We are pleased with our relationship
with Micap. In January last year we agreed to evaluate the application of the
Micap microencapsulation technology to the delivery of hydrophobic drugs.
Following pre-clinical evaluation of the Micap technology in both oral and
topical drug delivery applications, we have now decided to exercise our option.
This will enable work to continue on a number of candidate Option Products,
which we must nominate by the end of March next year. The Micap technology
further expands our growing range of drug delivery options.'
Micap has agreed to assist SkyePharma by continuing to offer specialist support
in the encapsulation of certain pharmaceuticals up to 30th June 2004. Thereafter
all ongoing costs related to the research, development and commercialisation of
the Option Products shall be borne by SkyePharma.
