How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Kroisos in the 6.00 was gambled from 12s to 5s before the off. in running in betfair after 3 fences, leading, it was trading at 3.3 - as i tried to lay it the horse pulled up for no apparent reason - interesting to see what is said afterwards

Fundamentalist - 29 Apr 2005 18:12 - 2503 of 10502

same race - alfred the grey jumped the last and 13k traded at 1.01 - it got beat on the line by Robber - quite aptly named lol

WBA losing yesterday helped Soton's cause

It will now all hinge on the Palace vs Southampton match. This is probably the most important match in both clubs history for many many years. Whoever wins will probably retain premiership status. If neither wins its all in the melting pot again. I think I will close my eyes and pray. Southampton will need to score at least ten goals to cover their defensive frailties at the back IMHO!!

Got a call last Friday, bless their cotton socks, from somebody offering me hospitality at the match last weekend. A bit of an issue that I was 5000 miles away at the time!!

BTW, Thanks very much to all those who sent email during the match. Its a moment I will never forget. I was about to be called up to speak in front of 20,000 people and thanks to the early emails I was desperate to know how the match was going. I was frantically trying to get a signal to see the latest news. The final score came through with about a second to spare before the spot light turned and faced me.

God knows what I would have done if the spot light would have hit before I got the score. I can look back now and laugh but in hindsight I must have been crazy. The things you do for your football team!

robben left on the bench

Scripophilist - 03 May 2005 19:48 - 2510 of 10502

I'll be playing tonight. I've arbed the qualify and match odds earlier so will play around with that money during the match.

Fundamentalist - 03 May 2005 19:49 - 2511 of 10502

Liverpool 1-0 up - Cech exceptionaly lucky it wasnt a penalty and sent off!!!

bakko - 03 May 2005 19:53 - 2512 of 10502

Evening Guys,

Just watching tonight.

Did well on tennis today so not keen to give anything back on footy even with Liverpool 1-0 in front.

Harlosh - 03 May 2005 19:55 - 2513 of 10502

Had a small bet on the draw in anticipation of a Chelsea goal just for fun.

Scripophilist - 03 May 2005 20:16 - 2514 of 10502

I've put some money on Chelsea to score. No dis-respect to Liverpool but I'd prefer Chelsea to go through. Arsenal were the best team in Europe last year when they were knocked out by an inferior team and the same could happen again tonight. As a neutral I'd prefer the stronger English team to get through.

Fundamentalist - 03 May 2005 20:16 - 2515 of 10502

Chelsea starting to control possession but have little options going forward - seems long ball to Drogba the only real option - if 0-0 at half time cant see Robben not coming on at the start of the second half

Fundamentalist - 03 May 2005 21:01 - 2516 of 10502

An hour gone and still no Robben!!!

Liverpool need to keep hold of the ball when they get it - could do with Gerrard getting a grip of the game

Scripophilist - 03 May 2005 21:02 - 2517 of 10502

Surely Chelsea will score.

Scripophilist - 03 May 2005 21:08 - 2518 of 10502

What a save! Thought that was in. If Liverpool qualify they would get destroyed by Milan. They just don't look European finalist quality.
