THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Goldfinger, I feel it is of very little use to join you or tanker or fred in discussion as you are unable to discuss, it seems to me that you all seem to believe that you are the way and the light, and nobody elses views are tollerable. Nobody is that correct.................ends

So lets get this right stable you think because of your politics the likes of Hays and cynic are the right ways.......LOL those 2 are most unflexible people I have ever come across.

It appears you want your cake and also to eat it.

stable - 23 May 2013 15:25 - 25316 of 81564

Golfinger
U will have noticed that I dont usualy join in the conversations on this board as so many are not prepared to admit that there could be another opinion. As to Haystack and Cynic, I have not mentioned them before as I believe that Cynic utters most with a tounge in cheek way to stir the crowd and as he is a keen golfer at least he has some principles.Haystack and you do rubb each other up and as for recent baiting u both re opiniom polls I feel a draw should be scored, but what does surprise me is two intelligent grown men can find the effort to arque over such a subject which reminds me of horse racing, looks honest but very corrupt under the edges.

Haystack - 23 May 2013 15:31 - 25317 of 81564

Well said

stable - 23 May 2013 15:33 - 25318 of 81564

Tanker, what you are unable to understand is that although many people who are convicted have non british names that does not make them immigrants.
Re those horrible rapes, if there were 20people involved in each case the number involved would be lass than 300 , please advise me the fact and tell me how many of those were immigrants , and how many were 'educated' in this country. No I dont turn a blind eye to what has happened, but I am not going to just blame immigrants for all our problems. I also blame people like u who seemingly willnot or have not tried to assimilate people with color and faiths into this country.
If the attitude of your had been maintained during the 50's to 70' we would not have a transport or health service

goldfinger - 23 May 2013 15:52 - 25319 of 81564

stable I can debate what I like on here with Hays, just because you dont like the subject doesnt mean its wrong.

And as for golf, class ridden sport only accessible to the toffs in most towns.

All golf courses should be leveled off and football fields placed on them for young kids who have nowhere to go now that the tories have sold off all school sportsfields to their crony landlord pals for house rental.

doodlebug4 - 23 May 2013 15:56 - 25320 of 81564

stable, I try to accept people of different faiths into this country, but I believe these people should learn the language of this country and abide by the laws of this country. One of the things I object to is that some - not all - try to impose their religious and cultural views on this country and I don't understand why local governments need to spend £millions on various leaflets which have been translated into other languages in order to appease a minority.

We also have a scenario today where Sergio Garcia has been villified in the press for making a silly remark about Tiger Woods which was construed as racist. It was a silly remark and Garcia has apologised for making it, but that is not enough for some of these idiot press reporters who would like to see Garcia persecuted.

goldfinger - 23 May 2013 16:00 - 25321 of 81564

TANKER tells many truths about immigrants in this country.

Not sure he gets it over right because of his posting style, but he says it as he sees it, others are thinking what he says but darent speak it for fear of being labeled a racist by do gooders.

Where were the anti facist league last night when the EDL where out on the streets???? now answer that one, why werent they present?????????

goldfinger - 23 May 2013 16:02 - 25322 of 81564

WELL SAID DOODLES I APPLAUD YOU SIR.

doodlebug4 - 23 May 2013 16:03 - 25323 of 81564

gf you obviously know nothing about golf! It may at one time have been a "class ridden sport", but there are plenty of public golf courses in this country which don't charge a fortune for a green fee and any youngster who would like to play can hire a set of golf clubs and go for a game with his friends, or hit some balls on a driving range. I see lots of young kids playing golf now and they don't come from priviledged backgrounds. ( You may not be applauding me any longer after that post ! )

Chris Carson - 23 May 2013 16:06 - 25324 of 81564

Classic ignorant remark GF re Golf. When I moved to Scotland 12 years ago I was pleasantly surprised that in Aberdeen, school children had a choice of going to the swimming baths or playing golf. They also have inter school competitions, so your remark "class ridden sport only accessible to the toffs in most towns2 utter rubbish mate.

ahoj - 23 May 2013 16:07 - 25325 of 81564

We can affect the life of people in other countries through exposure of internet and TV. rather than military. Education and internet works better.

Why to waste money and get involved in such barbaric conflicts?

goldfinger - 23 May 2013 16:14 - 25326 of 81564

The % is minimal playing golf. Dont overstate.

Municipal course is about only one open to kids here where I live.

AND adults hate them on the course.

AND can most working kids familys afford the yearly membership of over well well over a grand here in my area........I dont think so.

cynic - 23 May 2013 16:20 - 25327 of 81564

there are now a huge number of pay-and-play courses, ranging from the basic 9-hole to some very high quality ones indeed ...... playing golf is nothing whatsoever to do with class or even especially the cost, but more to do with being able to afford the time ..... furthermore, you might be amazed to learn that most clubs and indeed counties have very active programmes to introduce even very young children of both sexes to the sport

fishing is undoubtedly the most popular participant sport in uk, and that is enjoyed by millions from all economic classes of society, though that is not a particularly cheap hobby either

time you stopped being such an inverted snob old bean

Haystack - 23 May 2013 16:21 - 25328 of 81564

In most places in the world municipal / public golf courses are the mainstay of the sport. My parents used to live in Canada for a few years. The city where they lived had 4 municipal and 2 private courses. The public courses had no membership costs. It was just turn up and play and the cost was low as well.

Chris Carson - 23 May 2013 16:24 - 25329 of 81564

GF - Google map of golf courses in Yorkshire, then play spot the gap. Knobhead!

goldfinger - 23 May 2013 16:26 - 25330 of 81564

Stop talking wet Cyners. A set of golf clubs cost a fortune.

And yep they do hire them out for the day but boy does the local pro and adult members like them on the greens..................... not.

Granted I live in a posh area Holmfirth, but from what Ive seen its the same all over this area.

Knock em all down I say, snob sport.

And wheres our open champion??????? just like Tennis another snob sport.

cynic - 23 May 2013 16:31 - 25331 of 81564

shows what you know you silly old fool ..... new clubs are expensive, but 2nd-hand go very cheaply and can even be hired for only a few pounds

own up and admit that you don't actually have any interest whatsover in golf, and just spout nonsense from your all-too-typical preconceived prejudices

like i said, you're just an inverted snob and i fear, tending towards the worst of that ilk

=============

further, as at today, the world top 10 ranking golfers are
USA x 4, GB x 4, Oz x 1, SA x 1

doodlebug4 - 23 May 2013 16:32 - 25332 of 81564

The face of golf has been changing in this country over the last few years, there are not so many private members clubs any more as it was becoming too expensive. More and more people are just paying either five-day memberships, or pay and play, also youngsters and women are becoming more accepted at golf clubs. If you want to play at Wentworth or Sunningdale yes, I agree, it is silly money and if you are a woman and would like to play at Muirfield you are actually not allowed to unless you are invited to play with a male member of the club.

goldfinger - 23 May 2013 16:32 - 25333 of 81564

Once went up Crosland Moor local golf course, went for a drink a sat on what I was later told was the captains chair!!!!!!.

Reserved they said that chair ....... I said no chairs reserved so proceeded with my larger.

Big posh knob came over and threatned me that it was his chair, said he would flog my behind if I didnt vacate it immediatly.

Smashed him straight on the chin and flung him against the wall.

Took 6 of them to get me out.

Pals tho were banned.

Now tell me its not a snob sport.

doodlebug4 - 23 May 2013 16:38 - 25334 of 81564

Actually I would prefer my children to take up golf rather than football. If you look at the supposed 'role models' in football then you are really struggling to find any that you would want kids to look up to, whereas in golf at least there is a strong code of conduct and civilised 'role models'.
