Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?
If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?
Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?
What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

boxerdog-spot on-I could not agree with you more.
I was looking at the recent demo and the faces in the crowd-I would say 90% would be of Mid Eastern/Arabic desendancy.
It pains me to see them bring their imported hatred in to this country, and scares me at the same time when I recall 7/7 as well as other failed terrorist plans which we do not hear about for obvious reasons.
Yes we do have sympathy for civilian casualties-this is a human reaction when we see the TV war on our screens.
But at the same time we have to be mindful of the enemy within-of which there are plenty.
I believe it will not be too long before another atrocity is committed in this country in the name of Islam and revenge.
I dont read about Jews going about attacking Muslims in this country, but I do read about Muslims attacking rabbis and other religious Jews, who are an easy target on their way to prayers in London.

Thank you. It would be correct to say i am not exactly up to date. I an not an educated person but i was brought up to know right from wrong, and terrorism for whatever reason is wrong, does anyone disagree?. Hamas may be primitive in terms of armourment but their desire to kill is evident. Israel have decided enough is enough. Afterall it is Hamas who are responsible for the civilian deaths. shielding behind woman and children.
Another thing how on earth does threating the lives of jewish citizens in the uk. such as Alan Sugar be legitimate. The protests here in the UK. should be ceased with force if need be. Yes it would be fair to say i'm pro Israel as if they are defeated who would the finger of muslim terrorism point to next.

Sivad,
Don't you think the murdering or assassination of Palestinian "political" leaders in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza by the Israeli "snatch" and "death" squads over the last years, has been MURDER and against international law.
I am not disputing that the Palestinians have been less than perfect.
This present war is crazy, will settle nothing and eventually will lead to the negotiating table.
At that table, unless Israel negotiates in honesty, recognises its previously broken promises and withdraws from illegally confiscated lands etc, allows for an independent viable Palestinian state. Pays compensation or restitution for the damage it is presently wreaking in Gaza, then there will be another return to hostilities.
I think it crazy not to accept the above, if not in total at least partially.
I think Obama or America policies are in flux, but the present method of party funding in America, has been changed and in the future there may be less dependency on the Zionist lobby. Also, with the American economic outlook, the American public will be less willing to finance the Israeli war machine.
The USA armament industry, may have to look to others in the Middle East who can pay their bills.

I have been reading this thread (and the other one!) with interest and had decided not to make any comment one way or the other. In these situations, it doesn't always help to declare or imply your loyalties because sympathisers and antagonists on both sides will never be converted to your way of thinking. However, I was touched by ExecLine's honesty in post 255:
I suggest you at least read some of the previous postings on the thread.
They've gone a long way to educating me. They might do the same for you.
This has prompted me to raise my head above the parapet (just this once) to make a very simple point about a certain item of rhetoric too often repeated without answer. So many posters and news agencies have talked of Hamas hiding behind woman and children to launch their rockets and implying that to an extent the civilian casualties are therefore their own fault.
Gaza is in the top five of the most densely populated regions in the world. Exactly where do you believe Hamas could launch their rockets from that wouldn't involve being close to a civilian structure? (and I'm not condoning their actions). Perhaps Israel could remove a section of the wall that they built around the strip to allow Hamas out into the desert region to be away from civilians when they fire their rockets.
Where do you think Israel has it's military bases and associated buildings? Almost every jewish settlement has an army barrack and ammunitions depot within it. So should we not also say that Israel is hiding behind their woman and children.

Dil,
Dil,
They could end now if Hamas stopped launching rockets at Israel Fred , simple as that.
The same could be said of Jewish risings in the German Concentration Camps, or the teams of forced labour outside Germany during the period 1938-45.
They had a choice of be killed quickly, or slowly. Simply put, Israel is strangling the Palestinians and unless the United Nations supported by America act, then Israel will continue to do so.
Unfortunately, the present regime in Israel seems unable to look at the history of some of its population. It is also indoctrinating its own population to support its ideology.

The simple and obvious solution to the latter part of you post would be for Hamas to stop firing rockets, allowing Israel to live in peace. Not too much to ask is it Starfrog.

The plight of these innocent victims is truely sad but no worse than that of some of the victims of these despot regimes in Africa and Asia. How would our goverment react to constant bombing or indeed how did they act to the so called threat posed by Iraq?, we were soon in there the rest is history. The difference being in Israel the threat is constant and exists.

Boxer
Firstly,
I hope Britain would adhere to United Nations mandates or resolutions (for Gausie).
I hope we wouldn't treat smaller nations with the distain that Israel is showing.
We didnt do so in NI.
We eventually listen to and negotiated with the IRA, in spite of its previous actions. It is probable that if we had addressed some of the injustices in Northern Ireland earlier, and started negotiations earlier, many lives would have been saved.
Unfortunately, although the West may be able to give financial and humanitarian support to the underdeveloped African states it is unlikely to intervene militarily because history of colonisation. We could help South Africa etc. if they were prepared to take the burden on.
The Financial Aid given, must delivered to the point of need and not into GA or the hands of corrupt entrepreneurs, middle men and politicians.
But this thread relates to ISRAELS DISPROPORTIONATE ACTIONS IN GAZA.

Yes true Fred1 "still in KMR?" Its not soley about deaths but the threat of death posed by the constant bombing by Hamas on the people of Israel. Can you deny that?. To live under such duress is not acceptable and must be stopped. Its as simply as this, Hamas stops bombing Israel withdraw, deaths cease! but Hamas don't wish for this to happen.

The term "disproportionate" is a nonsense term that has appeared as of late.....first ...there is no need to shout on line Fred....I think we can all read...secondly.... I suppose you could say that the Allied bombing of Germany might be "disproportionate" or whatever and then you could go on right through every war......it's total nonsense....if you are being fired at, you fire back and defeat your adversary....Hamas had this coming, they need to stop firing rockets and bring an end to this terrible conflict !.

Boxer,
Simple, is the last thing it is!
If your population was being starved2, anything, which drew attention to your plight, may seem reasonable.
What would make it simpler:-
1) would be is that Israel makes a declaration agreeing to the United Nations Mandates and resolution.
2) to allow Gaza and the West Bank to be self governing and to trade freely
3) to allow Gaza to trade and utilise all its borders including the Med freely.
4) to respect that HAMAS is, at present, the Elected Government in Gaza. To give Hamas a voice at the United Nations, even this is only temporally until the West Bank and Gaza become one and under one government by free choice.
5) to guarantee restoration for the damage caused by the Israelis in the current invasion.
6) to allow the immediate admission of journalists and observers into the war zone of Israeli making.
7) the adherence to the requests of the Humanitarian Agencies.
I wont go on. But if they agreed to number one it would be a start.

Israel has always responded in a disproportionate manner and I can see no reason why that should not be so. If one is attacked unprovoked then by all means respond with the upmsot force. It will discourage people from attacking you. It is similar to the 'shoot the burglar' law in the US. If you don't want to get shot then don't become a burglar. However, in this case it is difficult to regard the agression as unprovoked. Israel has done plenty of things to the Palestinians that can be regard as provocation such as taking their land time and time again. In terms of agression and terrorism then Israel and the Palestinians are at the same level.
In November 2004, a United Nations Security Council report described terrorism as any act "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act".
This definition covers Israel and Hamas.
Don't forget the bombing of the King David hotel in 1946 which was directed against the British who were the occupying firce in Palestine at the time, which killed 91 people. The bomb plot was led by Menachem Begin, who later became Prime Minister of Israel. Many of Israel's leaders and members of the government started out as terrorists. You could say that Israel more or less invented modern terrorism.
