As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).
For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version
except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.
As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.
NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.
The new version can be found on the following link:
http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php
NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.
Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile
Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Normally use Linux Ubuntu 13.10 (which has its own alternative to Java for old display) with Firefox. Looks fine.

Massive improvement over the (very) flaky Java version even with IE11.
Can we have a link on the menu bar soonest please

I'm not sure if this is possible to do fellas but is it easy to put a facility/button on Stockwatch that allows you to remove a stock without having to put the ticker in the box at the top and then pressing remove/add?
On the risers and fallers. Is it possible to click on a stock on these 2 lists and then press a button that automatically places that stock onto your Stockwatch rather going through the process on putting the epic in the box above the Stockwatch and then pressing add/remove?
Just throwing an idea into the mix though I suspect it may be technically difficult..just a thought

I'll pass it onto george to see what he says - I am not sure if this is possible,

Delighted that there is now a News alert; and that the site is now interactive in that clicking on the trades and charts icons at the beginning of the line actually links straight through.

I have noticed today that after a certain period (haven't timed it) all the bid & offer prices on my watchlist revert to green, as though the system has restarted.
Happened several times today.
Any ideas ?

Mo06: If for any reason the connection is interrupted and it auto-reconnects this happens. It's nothing to worry about but it's not something that the java applet did. That's not to say that the Java didn't lose connection and reconnect, it just means that it didn't revert the bid/offer to green. However reverting the row to default status is the most accurate thing to do if there has been an interruption.

Hi Ian - thanks for your efforts to improve matters. I just changed from a Windows machine (too unreliable) and am now on a Mac 'all in one' PC which shows your stock watch page fine under your 'java free' arrangement but not for my 'level 2' function for some reason.
This new machine tells me to download java to access this, so I've downloaded a free java package for a Mac and it's recognised it but still shows 'missing - plug in' for some reason, the 'plug - in' being the java download requirement.
I'm far from being computer literate, I have to say but I regard your 'level 2' function as an essential part of your service when dealing opportunities present themselves.
I'll get the engineer who installed this latest machine to have a look at it - just thought you'd like to know.

adelaide,
thanks for that.
Level 2 is still currently java, but will be moved away from that to the new system in the coming weeks.

I for one am glad to be rid of Java. It was always a real PITA when each Java upgrade happened. I could never get streaming to work, as Java seemed to think it was a threat.
This new version is (for me) better than the old one.

Would it be possible to sort the Portfolio function by either epic or company name?
At present each new entry goes to the bottom of the portfolio rather than its alphabetical place in the list.

gdbarker: By default the stockwatch watchlist sorts alphabetically by Epic code.

Hi Ian,
This is great and runs better than the jave version - However 2 points:
1) I am still asked to run java before being able to go to the beta version
2) Once in the beta version, if I want to see the latest specific trades by clicking the 'T' radio button then it asks me to 'run' java and then wont load?

Like it. The presentation has a little more impact, a bit punchier, and it now allows me to have access to this data on my laptop, tablets and smartphones, broadening its appeal and usefulness versus other products. It also avoids the security issues with Java.
Keep up the good work.
