THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

People in Wales are "extremely satisfied" with schools and the NHS but remain worried about finances, an official survey has suggested.

The National Survey questioned more than 14,000 people in the Welsh government study.

Of those questioned, 90% said they were satisfied with NHS hospital care, while 92% of parents were happy with their child's primary school.

gf
I used to work for a wine company and my mother's family used to own Threshers years ago, hence the interest in wine.

Acer - 31 May 2013 12:43 - 25549 of 81564

Like to know who the 14,000 surveyed are. All I hear is people really p.... off with the education system, falling way behind the whole of Europe. The bilingual system holds so many kids back.

ahoj - 31 May 2013 12:54 - 25550 of 81564

It is impossible to assess the quality of education in the whole country based on survey of a group of people.

Statistics can be played with very easily, just choose the group that most likely give the answer you like. You have whatever you need to generate beautiful results justifying your aim.

Even our universities are pushed to tick boxes to receive money, so the data is played with so the maximum number of boxes are ticked! Does it mean that they are as great as their statistic show?

TANKER - 31 May 2013 12:56 - 25551 of 81564

Acer,excelent point made.

Hays is known to be lets say......a little nieve and biased.

Haystack - 31 May 2013 13:17 - 25554 of 81564

As far as the Welsh government was concerned, people were asked to rate it between 0 and 10 on whether it is doing a good job.

The average rating was 5.8 - compared to an average score of 4.3 for the UK government and 3.8 for governments across Europe.

Other highlights included:

96% of people who saw a GP or had a hospital appointment agreed that they were treated with dignity and respect.

92% of people were satisfied with the care they received from their GP at their last visit.

92% of parents were satisfied with their children's primary school, while 83% were satisfied with secondary schools.

48% of people said they could keep up with all their bills and commitments without any difficulties.

"We are committed to making sure the decisions we make take into account the views of the people we serve," said Finance Minister Jane Hutt.

"The National Survey is one of our key sources of information on people's views and circumstances."

"We will use these results to inform the development of policy, the delivery of public services and to find out about the well-being of the people of Wales - so that we can make Wales a better place to live and work," added Ms Hutt.

goldfinger - 31 May 2013 14:31 - 25555 of 81564

So have I got this right; Partrick Mercer is too crooked to stay in the Conservative Party, yet not too crooked to stay in parliament?.

Haystack - 31 May 2013 15:04 - 25556 of 81564

Cash for questions is probably not an offence, otherwise some Labour MPs would have left in the past.

goldfinger - 31 May 2013 16:02 - 25557 of 81564

Now come on Hays lets stop talking bloody silly.

Haystack - 31 May 2013 16:17 - 25558 of 81564

It is just against parliamentary rules. It is not a big deal. In other countries, their MPs or equivalent get paid as lobbyists. In the US it is fine as long as it is disclosed. Recently only 3 representatives did not receive 'gun money' to vote no in the gun legislation. A lot of fuss about not much.

goldfinger - 31 May 2013 16:22 - 25559 of 81564

RUBBISH....... just because they suit your purposes as per usual.

Haystack - 31 May 2013 16:55 - 25560 of 81564

What I mean, is that I don't care about it. There more important things. You only care because he is Conservative. I wouldn't care if he was Labour.

goldfinger - 31 May 2013 17:37 - 25561 of 81564

Well thats rubbish aswel, im not a socialist I support the party that I think will do best for the country.

goldfinger - 31 May 2013 17:41 - 25562 of 81564

Anyway new topic hays, you into history.? Think you are if I remember correctly. I did A level when I was 29 as a hobby, economic and social. Grade A of course.

Where is Robin Hoods official grave and what was the crack around his death??.

No cheating by using google.

Haystack - 31 May 2013 18:09 - 25563 of 81564

No idea. The only thing I remember is that he probably didn't exist. I do know that King Richard was the baddy and King John was actually a good king contrary to the Robin Hood legends.

Haystack - 31 May 2013 19:34 - 25564 of 81564

The French stock exchange fell 38.66 points at opening Friday after the announcement of more miserable economic figures, notably the 24th consecutive monthly rise in unemployment.

UK unemployment 7.8% and falling, French 10.8% and rising and Eurozone
12.2% and rising.

France has a Socialist government, so the conclusion is clear if you want higher unemployment then vote Labour.

goldfinger - 31 May 2013 21:50 - 25565 of 81564

"UK unemployment 7.8% and falling"...... LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

At least the French dont count someone who works 1 hour per week as a full unit ie, that of in full time work like we do now over here. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Wise up and quick Hays.

Oh and this makes it even better...... "if you want higher unemployment then vote Labour"........... my god this man is an allien.

PATHETIC statement, everyone knows under a labour government more people are properly employed.

Thatcher used unemployment as a tool in which to try and beat labour and the Unions but in the long run it backfired and her own party cut off her head.

cynic - 01 Jun 2013 08:10 - 25566 of 81564

uk unemployment is arguably/probably falling from its current 7.8% (or thereabouts) and is certainly massively lower than in the eurozone where it stands at around 22/23%

that said, i'ld certainly like to see far greater help given to apprenticeships and to small companies so they can actually afford to take on these young guys/gals, many of whom will have left school without any qualifications of any sort
as it stands, uk still has a huge shortage throughout the building and associated trades, but even if a young chap(ess) gets through a course, he will still find it virtually impossible to get the necessary field experience to allow him to offer his services in the real world

uk economy is starting to pick up, though there is an inevitable considerable timelag before that and its accompanying feelgood factor feeds through to populace at large

uk housing starts and sales are at last on the way back up, and that will benefit the general economy and also help the feelgood factor
