Afternoon all!

I had promised myself I was going to wait a while before tipping this, in view of how many rookie punters seem to be remortgaging their houses to pay for blue-sky oil companies that then go through the wars, HOWEVER I think this one is a bit less risky.

And with no further ado:

Hardman Resources (HNR) has dropped over 40% since its April peak due to production problems at its one producing site (Chinguetti). However I feel the stock is due a turnaround as these are due to be offset by the drilling of further wells later this year and in H1 next year.

HNR is currently drilling two rounds of exploration, one likely to be worth a net 6,000 bbl oil/day, the second worth a net 900 bcf of gas. Results for these are due in about ten days for the oil and soon after for the gas.

In my view the current SP is justified by current production plus part of the production due from prospects that have already been tested, meaning new shareholders get most of the broad exploration portfolio (including a 13-stage drilling programme to the end of 2007) basically for free.

The only downside I can see is political risk in Mauritania, but I think this is a background issue due largely to civil unrest (correct me if I'm wrong but it's not like the problems of re-nationalisation going on in Peru).

The SP has also bounced off a support level today in spite of the iffy market.

Anyway I have dipped a toe in the water today and invite others to consider doing so. News and views on the thread.

As usual this is all IMHO, PDYOR.

Forgot to mention re HNR that the exploration portfolio is one of the more exciting ones I have seen - lots of apparently very solid leads, many prospects hoped to be 1-billion barrels -plus, and this from a company that is well-financed and already producing.

In April I was convinced the company was overvalued at around 800 mil; now it's at 440-ish mil with a clear path ahead towards production I have changed my mind and turned Buyer.

Europa Oil and Gas!! (EOG) currently available for around 31 - 33p and even better, the warrants (EOGW), exerciseable at 30p and due to expire Nov 2007 (but please do your homework on these as they are a risky class of asset. Thank you!).

Why? Firstly, forthcoming production hikes due to Romanian assets coming onstream - should be announced by month's end and will cause about a four- or five-fold increase in daily production/turnover.

Secondly, EOG's profits for 2007 are set to shoot even higher as the Romanian domestic gas market fixes the gas price for the new year by taking the average gas price for the current year and multiplying by 0.8. Take a look at oilbarrel.com's price chart for Henry Hub gas. Prices this year are up on last year - average by year end 2006 should be well over $6.50, giving EOG/Romania a gas price of at least $5.20 in 2007 (EOG is currently able to sell gas for $4.30, i.e. for the forthcoming production at its Romanian sites for the remainder of 2006).That's a 20% rise.

To summarise - five-fold production increase this year, 20% increase in prices next year.

EDIT - EOG's net working interest in its Romanian assets stands at 28.75%. This is still fairly small, but it would seem that there is plenty of scope for upside to EOG's shares over the coming 18 months.

Some interesting posts, one I think that could bag at least with potential for a 5 to 10 bagger is AST which is Ascent Resources.

Presently a producer of small amounts, but amounts that give nice cash inflow, they have a very active 18 months of drilling ahead, with 10 drills in the coming 6 months for starters.

Some, like Hungary, offer very good chances of commercial gas to boost the revenue side and others like Italy offer substansial upside of large finds.

Very good mix of low and high risk plays and short term target of 25p and potential of 75p or more by Dec 07, not bad given AST is presently just 11.5p to buy, and directors have been spending big money recently buying shares between the 9p and 12.5p levels.

A producer gives them cash in status, with big upside on exploration, so certainly worth a flutter I feel on a short, mid and long term basis.

IMO, DYOR etc.. etc..

THR
Alex - a good long term hold - I have an enormous amount in these. I am just disappointed that I am going to have to wait probably 2 years to make a wedge. Be careful with your stocks as you are dealing in small amounts which makes me think you can't afford to lose it.

robertalexander - 14 Aug 2006 14:43 - 261 of 934

Fonty,
never fear this is just play money so i can afford to lose though the master plan is obviously to make it.

I'm interested to see that Shares likes Stratex (STI) amongst the penny picks - haven't looked at for a while, but when last I heard they were finding loads of promising gold veins in Turkey.

soul traders - 21 Aug 2006 15:20 - 270 of 934

Renesola (SOLA) !!!

Up 50% in a week, quarterly results out today announcing big profit increase. Production of silicon wafers being ramped up quickly; will more than double over coming six months.

This one has already left the launch-pad, just got in myself. Won't say any more as you can all DYOR and draw your own conclusions.

My active stocks at the moment GTL should go into the production of ethanol this Q4, ERX expecting news before the end of year on drug compounds. And GOO waiting on results of drilling.
