starting this thread, which i hope will be short-lived, to keep the board up to date with latest reports gleaned from the net

silly boy! ..... it's not really meant for real reading; it's to cure insomnia
meanwhile, to get back on track, it would be really good to hear the views of other members about what is happening in libya and perhaps how they perceive the future there ...... it's a sort-of a natural progression from the reason i started this thread in first place

interesting that anyone who went to public school is regarded by bm as a toff, whatever that may actually mean
as for the eponymous bernard matthews, he was certainly not public school educated, but nor was he a turkey ..... having read his obit, he was assuredly an interesting character, but i think i'ld rather have had business dealings with george and billy walker who were almost certainly much better company

pretty questionable ...... billy was a pug who punched above his weight, but i suspect was his brother's inferior in mental agility ..... george was an ok boxer in his day, but was arguably unlucky to get mangled in the (mid 80s?) property crash ..... while it is true he was charged with fraud or somesuch, he was found not guilty ..... i certainly admire that after the collapse of brent walker and his personal bankruptcy, he continued to fight hard to make a comeback rather than just crumbling

"Almost every thing in the ME has implications for Palestine (currently temporarily called Israel). " says the parrot. What a nutter ! LOL
I thought I'd look at this thread to see if the usual suspects, fred and the parrot on his shoulder could twist this round onto Israel.
Guess what ! LOL
Parrot, you really should get trreatment for your Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
For fred there is even less hope as he is the Galloway/Livingstone/Wedgwood-Benn/Bob Crow of moneyam.

I am confused, as per usual. I think somebody has changed medications on this board.

partly my own fault for allowing this thread to drift into areas of personal abuse by some, so to reiterate
it would be really good to hear the views of other members about what is happening in libya (not gaza!) and perhaps how they perceive the future there ...... it's a sort-of a natural progression from the reason i started this thread in first place

I agree with the Russians. We should not be involved in Libya at all. It's a civil war and the West should mind its own business and stop interfering in Muslim countries.
Our governments are a load of self-righteous prigs with pretensions to a world role and no understanding of other cultures.
Just like a couple of posters on this and the Gaza thread.

ITLOB - a valid view with which i might have considerably more sympathy had not AL also backed (what you choose to call) the West's proposal and action ...... the fact that libya is a muslim country is surely irrelevant, for as you say, this is a civil war, but without religious undertones

The AL will vacillate and finally come out against the intervention, imho as the inevitable civilian collateral damage will turn them against the West. Also their natural sympathy for their Muslim brothers will trump any sense of fairness and justice in wanting to get rid of the pesky Colonel.
The Shia/Sunni and tribal tensions will play a part in my view.
Actually the Gadfly's TV performances always remind me of our very own parrot hays.
Thinks a huge amount of himself, rages and rants, lies, a comic figure.
