I was in Istanbul in the summer. We went to Ciragan Palace Hotel for afternoon tea. The scenery was absolutly beautifull with the hotel facing towards asia
over the Bosporus. We sat outside and was served the most wonderfull Turkish tea.
When its cold dark and dreary here sometimes I wish i was back there again. Hence i have already booked my flight for a long weekend over there over easter

Olddog - 02 Feb 2003 18:41 - 266 of 23498

Kebab,

I've never known GD's tea room to be "cold dark and dreary"

If you would like a change why not go around to the back where you are sure to find some very entertaining gentlemen resting on a park bench that I installed last week

( Bring you own six pack of cider )

I was not refering to GD's room but was infact talking about the weather.

Could I please ask those who understand computers a really simple question? I've got to back up my data before upgrading from W98SE to XP, so finally worked out how to operate Adaptec Easy CD Creator. I think everything is fine, but when I try to check the CD has copied what I want, I can't bring the information up on screen. I've tried inserting the new CD but it makes a whirring sound - quite usual - after a few seconds, but nothing coes up on screen.

The details in 'My Computer' and 'Windows Explorer' seem to indicate the right stuff is on there and it says there is data on the CD, but it just makes a whirring sound after a few seconds and stops after a few minutes.

Any ideas, guys?

Biffer - 02 Feb 2003 20:46 - 269 of 23498

Hi Vasey,

In windows explorer, if you click on the CD device, then it should show you the contents of the CD. I assume you just copied files to it, so it's treated just like an ordinary disk (as per C:), so you should see the contents.

Hi all

I'm new so be gentle with me

andycarr - 02 Feb 2003 21:23 - 271 of 23498

Hi Vasey

Which version of Easy CD Creator are you using? To find this out Start Easy CD Creator and click help on the top menu.. then about and it should give you a version number.

Also, have you tried restarting windows and then trying to access the new CD? (Hold down shift while restarting to avoid a complete reboot)as sometimes Explorer in Windows can crash.

Socrates - 02 Feb 2003 22:09 - 272 of 23498

vasey
Have you solved your problem?

Mr Ashley James - 02 Feb 2003 23:39 - 273 of 23498

Socrates,

Which problem is Vasey trying to solve this time? (;-o

Cheers

Ash

PS Vasey is a Virgo, whoops (You know what they say about Virgo's, off scampering back the the narrow paths in the mountains)!

Hello all.

How nice to see all these new faces in the cafe, welcome all.

:-)

vasey - 03 Feb 2003 08:42 - 276 of 23498

biffer and andycarr: thank you so much for your advice. I am using Adaptec Easy CD Creator v3.5c and I can access the list by going to 'My Computer' and clicking on the V drive which is where I filed it. That brings up the CD layout page and clicking on the 'My Docs' in the bottom Left hand quadrant of the page, does bring up the full list of all the things that I copied across.

But.... just to check they were all there and it wasn't just a Table of Contents, I tried double clicking on some individual documents and ... nothing!

I rebooted the machine this morning and I'm still at the same point. Have I missed a step in the process?

Biffer - 03 Feb 2003 09:22 - 277 of 23498

Hi vasey, if they're word documents you could try opening them directly from within word.

They will be stored with read-only permission, but that should be ok.

The other thing you could try is in explorer dragging one of them into a directory on your C: drive.

Also in explorer, if you click on views->details on the toolbar it should show you the size and type of each file.

vasey - 03 Feb 2003 09:23 - 278 of 23498

biffer: seems the file size is 1,135kb which suggests something meaningful is on there...doesn't it?!

Biffer - 03 Feb 2003 09:40 - 279 of 23498

vasey, looks ok, but if I were you I'd copy it to a directory on your C: drive and then open it with word (if it is a document). You could also check the size of the original file in the directory that you copied it from and see if they're the same.

Gausie - 03 Feb 2003 09:48 - 280 of 23498

Any chance of a steamed sponge pudding?

hilary - 03 Feb 2003 10:00 - 281 of 23498

Maybe Gausie,

The chef in here is pretty dynamic. Why don't you pursue him into the kitchen to ask?
