Can anybody help with my problem receiving Stockwatch on this site?
I can get the screen up minus the actual details of my Stockwatch. Sometimes it comes up instantly. Others I have to contiually click the Stockwatch tab.
I have been advised by am to enable Java streaming. Haven't sussed out how to do this despite looking all over my PC.

Would appreciate any help. It's driving me mad.

For Windows or the Mac, the Eudora mailer is well worth a look. It's a nifty bit of software which is much less vulnerable to the standard attacks that get mounted on Outlook address books and so on. See Eudora

It's also (in version 6)got smart client spam filtering which seems to work well.

I've got a problem in retrieving the e-mails from one of my Pipex accounts.

It's been happening for a couple of days now. I use Outlook Express 6. I can see that there are 8 messages to download, but it continually sticks while downloading the first message. A box pops up and the text says "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds. Would you like to wait another 60 seconds for the server to respond?". Pressing "Wait" just gives me the same pop-up box 60 seconds later.

What can I do please?

I don't know the cause but as a work around you could view the email on a web based browser (use www.mail2web.com if pipex dosn't have one ). You should then be able to view and delete the offending email.

Hilary - agree with Optimist - I've found this problem is usually a very large attachment from a well meaning friend/relative.

Thanks for that guys. Following your posts, I've discovered that Pipex have something called Netmail which performs the exact function you described.

Ironically, it appears that the offending article was a am Traders Report.

hilary, it's more likely to be a problem at Pipex. I have a number of email accounts with different ISPs and every week at least one of them has this problem. It just means the ISP mail server is not replying.

I seem to have a problem with ZoneAlarm. Normall my settings are high for both "internet Zone security" and "trusted zone security". However for about the last week now I cannot use the internet (with any browser) unless I put these setting down to medium.

The other problem is now I am getting loads of grey advertising boxes poppoing up. Kayak, I remember once you told me how to stop these (I cant remember) but I think stopping them via AOL (or was it IE?) is not reall solving the problem with ZA.

Im intending to upgrade my processor to a Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz 478Pin 1Mb Cache 800MHz FSB Processor Prescott.Currently have a Intel 2.24.
What do i need to check before i get it.
Is it an easy task to fit one???

Should be just a case of replacing the processor and booting Iain, but to be honest a 34% increase in processing power will hardly be noticeable.

Would adding more memory help?Currently 512.Using it to edit video etc at mo.Thought it might help to upgrade

Iain, I would add more memory before proc upgrade, add as much as you can, its much cheaper than processor.

Depends whether you have a slot free Iain! Also on whether the motherboard can take 512Mb modules. You can look in the manual or post up the motherboard model number (normally written in largish letters somewhere on it) and we can look it up.

Before rushing out and getting memory though it's worth seeing if your system is actually memory-bound. Look at the Memory Usage graph in Task Manager when you are using it in anger during the day.

Mr Euro, to get rid of the Messenger Service pop-ups, if you're running Zone Alarm then ensure that incoming ports 135, 137, 138, 139, and 445 are all blocked by it. There is the other way you did last time, but this way is better.

Although you will only be getting a small improvement in processor speed it may still be worth upgrading your proccessor although I would suggrst a 3.2 or 3.4 Ghz.

This level processor supports hyperthreading which I have found to be very good. As far as windows is concerned it sees it as two procesors which can reduce freezing when doing heavy proccessing. You would have to check whether your application benefits from this.

The other thing you should consider if you upgrade is whether the motherboard and memory are up to date enough to take advantage of the hyperthreading and 800 MHz FSB. As`Kayak says let us know your motherboard and memory details.

If it is the Microsoft Messenger service (grey boxes with an OK button) you can go Admin Tools/Services , find the Microsft Messenger service and disable it, although the ports that Kayak mentioned should be closed to the internet anyway. Have yo installed XP SP2 yet?
