THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

everyone has been berating the new "111" system, but my own experience just this morning was a really pleasant eye-opener

i brought back from dubai some sort of silly respiratory infection ..... as we are off on jolly hols next friday, it seemed sensible to get it checked out ...... very efficient 111 "receptionist" took a whole raft of necessary particulars nd told me a doc would phone me back ..... this he did within about 20 minutes and gave me an appt at 11:36 at wycombe general.

get there; appt on time; nothing of concern (as expected), so home again by end of first half.

Conclusion: Assuredly cynic has now been put down as an NHS time waster.. and quit rightly in my impartial view -):

cynic - 22 Jun 2013 13:12 - 26316 of 81564

i confess i did feel somewhat guilty as i was certain is wasn't any desperate .... but then 111 is defined as being for NON emergency ..... has we not been going on hol next week for sure I'ld have waited until monday for normal surgery hours

The best place to invest now is in the Philippines, even with the dice loaded againest foreigners and the amount of form filling.

The new President is going all out to attract oversea's investment . Its one of the fastest growing economys in Asia.

Tell the the truth Cynic, at your age, you were frightened you wouldn't make it over the weekend.

8-)

I see cynic has taken advantage of the great advances in medicine brought to you courtesy of the coalition.

cynic - 22 Jun 2013 16:20 - 26320 of 81564

if i was cynical, i'ld say i lust wanted to test out NHS which i pay for, but never seem to use

doodlebug4 - 22 Jun 2013 16:54 - 26321 of 81564

Cynic, I think anyone who spends time on 'planes these days picks up respiratory infections. The quality of air is appalling now and actually seemed to be much better when people were allowed to smoke during flights! Short haul flights are not quite so bad, but long haul flights are a nightmare, I always seem to pick up some sort of chest infection after a long haul flight.

cynic - 22 Jun 2013 17:14 - 26322 of 81564

nah! just very hot outside in dubai (40 or so), cold a/c and usual desert dust in the air .... don't worry; i shan't die just yet :-)

Miliband has said he won't borrow anymore and won't reverse cuts made. He doesn't want a referendum on Europe. Why exactly would anyone want to vote for him?

aldwickk - 22 Jun 2013 19:35 - 26324 of 81564

Fred's not going to vote for him

aldwickk - 22 Jun 2013 19:47 - 26325 of 81564

Fred do you think Jimmy Savile is guilty ? all the newspapers say he is and they got it wrong before REMEMBER

Fred1new - 22 Jun 2013 20:53 - 26326 of 81564

I think the Jimmy Saville you refer to is dead!

Why not ask him!

Ed’s U-turn

IS it a miracle? Has Ed Miliband finally woken up to the parlous state in which Labour left Britain?

After three years of opposing every Coalition cut, he now backs the lot.

Even the ones George Osborne is announcing next week.

It’s a welcome step towards some sort of credibility. But two big tests remain.

First, he must admit he and Ed Balls made calamitous mistakes with our finances in government.

Second, he must convince his MPs, his party and the unions bankrolling Labour that the Tories’ “wicked” cuts are in fact unavoidable.

Sorry, Ed. We can’t see you doing either.

I had a bottle of Cannoneau this evening in a restaurant. Do you know it? It is from Sardinia. It is 13% and some varieties are up to 15%. It is oaked for a year.

cynic - 23 Jun 2013 08:08 - 26329 of 81564

had never heard of it, so checked it out ..... far too "dangerous" for me as i don't like these huge road-block reds ..... that's why i don't drink/like south african reds (a very few exceptions) ..... however, there are now some excellent reds made in sicily .... try I Vigneri - Etna 2010 (Salvo Foti) .... you can get it through caves de la pyrene near guildford

Fred1new - 23 Jun 2013 09:17 - 26330 of 81564

Dreams,

Still dreaming.

Before the coalition the economy was in trouble.

After Georgie boy and Kid Cameron the economy is in chaos. (Another recession on the way, the books hidden. No wonder Labour are cautious and not shouting their mouths off like the Con party on a trip at the Bullingdon Club.)

But don't worry they will blame everybody for the problems they have created.

Suggest Russell Brand on a trip has more sense.

dreamcatcher - 23 Jun 2013 09:27 - 26331 of 81564

Watch the Andrew Marr programme in the next few mins Fred and you may learn. Sorry I forgot you will no doubt turn the sound down or more remove your hearing aid and glasses. :-)). Sorry the labour party are making it up as they go along. Ps Dick Balls is on the programme, oh sorry Ed balls up. lol

cynic - 23 Jun 2013 12:18 - 26333 of 81564

at this very early stage - election is still 18 months away - it really does look that labour is making a complete hash of things if it wants to stand a chance of winning next time around

economy
oh well; actually we'll leave the tory policies in place
we don't care for them at all, but there really does not look to be a viable alternative

europe
not sure what to do at all
the electorate looks to want out, but sure as hell we're not going to give them a chance to vote on it

immigration
we'll stay stumm on that one
it's definitely a tricky hot potato for all sorts of reasons and it would leave us open to attack from at least one or another important block of voters if we actually nail our colours to the mast on that one

what else?
rather seem to have run out of electorate-important issues on which we can make a stance
perhaps the tories will just resign and let us have a go uncontested!
