How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

It's when a horse is withdrawn. All the odds on the rest of the horse in the race are adjusted accordingly.

BTW, I think I may have metioned it earlier on the thread. Some time ago I had a dream that the relegation battle would go to the last match of the season. In my dream I dreamt that in the Southampton Match, Man U took the lead in the 63rd minute with a Van Nistlerooy goal. My heart sank.

If VN is playing on Saturday I'm sticking a bet on it!

Rule 4 is when a horse is withdrawn from a race before the start - the rule 4 deduction relates to the deduction from winnings due to the withdrawal. The deduction only affects bets placed prior to the withdrawal as the market is suspended upon a withdrawal and then reformed

For example a horse which is trading at 5.0 will result in a 20% deduction (known as 20p in the pound) or a horse trading at 10.0 will result in a 10% deduction.

If you go to the rules page on a horse race before it starts you will see if any horses have been withdrawn and if so, at what time and what the reduction factor is

if youre about, have a look at the 8.00 at Towcester - on the rules page you will see several withdrawals listed and their relevant deduction facto

Thanks Guys,

Script can you dream tonight about the FA overturning the sending off for Crouch tomorrow and no more dreams about VN please.

cunningham - 09 May 2005 19:57 - 2642 of 10502

Yeap I see them. Need to study them later to understand the numbers better, Have taken a snapshot for now.

Scripophilist - 09 May 2005 19:58 - 2643 of 10502

I can only dream unfortunately. I think thats the nail in the coffin unfortunately. Never mind it will be nice to win a few games again rather than lose each week to a bunch of overpaid prima donnas!

Just think of the excitement I could have next year. Crewe, Cardiff, Plymouth, Millwall. Some quality teams in there, I can see end to end flowing football coming my way. The talent also, I can name at least............. err... no... top striker in the championship. I am looking forward to seeing him (whatever his name is) on display next season.

Don't give up yet, we could still play Wigan yet next year. :-)

dont give up hope mate, ultimately there are 4 poor sides playing and any of them could win, lose or draw - there will be a lot of nerves about, whilst the teams they are playing have little to play for. as a neutral it will be an interesting afternoon watching it unravel, but i do feel sorry for the fans of the clubs involved.

that said if saints go down i will be sorry for Harry and Jim but celebrate Rupert Lowe going down

Fundamentalist - 09 May 2005 20:25 - 2646 of 10502

8.20 - favourite reared up in stalls and jockey hurt in process - their goes my profit!!! im now exposed to virtue for a loss - grrrrr

cunningham - there will be a rule 4 on this !!!

Fundamentalist - 09 May 2005 20:26 - 2647 of 10502

why are people still backing the horse in running when it didnt even start???

Fundamentalist - 09 May 2005 20:29 - 2648 of 10502

Buster Hyvonen was just under 3.0 when withdrawn - the rule 4 adjustment was 35.3%

cunningham - 09 May 2005 20:29 - 2649 of 10502

That cost me on Virture as well, and was it me did the odds for the favourite reduce down to 1.03 in running. Not bad for a horse that wasn't running.

Scripophilist - 09 May 2005 20:30 - 2650 of 10502

I've seen that many times. I can only hypothesise that bots are programmed to offer prices automatically or third parties are unable to see the images. Very strange you see it happen all the time.

Scripophilist - 09 May 2005 20:31 - 2651 of 10502

I feel sorry for Forest fans. I remember the double european cup winning side very well and to think they will start next season in the old division three is incredible for anybody that experianced their halcyon days.

cunningham - 09 May 2005 20:32 - 2652 of 10502

So what does the 35.3% come off of. This is what I am still trying to work out. Is from the odds on that horse that have all ready been matched, or does it effect the rest of the field in anyway?

Fundamentalist - 09 May 2005 20:34 - 2653 of 10502

Cunningham

If you divide the price the horse was quoted at into 1 you get the percentage chance the horse had (when all added up givr you the over round figure)

Fundamentalist - 09 May 2005 20:35 - 2654 of 10502

Why no rule 4 on Count Kristo which also didnt start???

cunningham - 09 May 2005 20:35 - 2655 of 10502

So it only effects the overround nothing else?

Fundamentalist - 09 May 2005 20:37 - 2656 of 10502

No - effectively if it had a 35% chance of winning then each of the other horses have a 35% greater chance of winning if it doesnt run

Count Kristo rule 4 9.6% - why has this increased my loss????
